I have a One Note notebook saved through Office 365 Online. I would like to download a local copy but am having trouble. I've tried going to One Drive and downloading it through there, but it downloads a zip with a text file saying it cannot be downloaded. How can I get a local copy of a one note notebook I have on office online?

You said you downloaded from onedrive but there's also an option on onenote online, so, for now, I'll treat it as if you had only tried onedrive but not the other (Microsoft is confusing, am I right?).

Exporting and importing notebooks through OneNote for the web is only available for notebooks stored on personal OneDrive accounts, not for notebooks stored on OneDrive for Business or SharePoint. For information about exporting notebooks to PDF files from OneNote 2016 for Windows, see Export notes from OneNote as a PDF.

Whenever you type text that OneNote for the web recognizes as a link (also known as a hyperlink), it automatically formats it as a link. For example, if you type www.onenote.com into your notes, OneNote for the web turns the text into a link. In this example, click or taping the link will open the OneNote website in your browser.

Click or tap Invite people to share the notebook with others. Enter their email addresses and a quick welcome note. To share a notebook that others can modify, make sure Recipients can edit is displayed. To share a notebook for viewing only, make sure Recipients can only view is displayed. Click or tap the blue text to change the current setting.

Click or tap Get a link to create a link to the current notebook that you can manually copy and paste in an email, blog post, or Web page. In the Choose an option list, click or tap or tap View only or Edit to set the permissions level, and then click or tap Create link.

Please Help!! I have OneNote App installed among Office 365 app (Business version) under my university student account on a Windows 11 machine. I can open all OneNote notebooks online, but the OneNote App can't open any of them. All notebooks are created on a different laptop (Windows 10) under the same account, synced through OneDrive.

I can open all these notebooks on OneNote App on the Win10 machine (where the notes are created & stored locally). But when I try to open them in OneNote App on Win11 machine, I get message saying: "Couldn't open that location. It might not exist or you might not have permission..."

This problem started last month. Both machines worked fine before that. I've tried every trick I can find online, logged out & back in, uninstalled & reinstalled Office 365, OneDrive, OneNote on both machines, nothing works. Please help!! Thank you.

UPDATE: I just created a notebook online (web version of OneNote) on the Windows 11 machine and tried to open it on OneNote App on the same machine, failed! Exactly the same message, saying "Couldn't open the location, it either doesn't exist or I don't have the permission." : -( And I tried to open this "test notebook" on the Win10 OneNote App, failed too! Though I can open this notebook and all the others on both machines on web version. Please could someone please shed some light where I am doing wrong? Thank you!

I have an account online (normal outlook.com) where I have a notebook in onenote with alot of important info that I want to move to another online account so i can use it with "onenote online" there instead on the new account. (Im changing account). But how do I do that? To much to copy & paste manually with all formatting and stuff so need to backup it in some way so I can use it on the new accout.

I have tested to download the notebook file from onedrive from the first account and uploaded it to the second account and it show up as an onenote notebook but when I try to open it in "onenote online" from onedrive, it say the file dont exist or I dont have permission to view it.But i

If your OneDrive account is low on available space, manually delete any unnecessary files from your OneDrive storage (including any failed notebook uploads) and then try importing the notebook folder again.

Hi! To open the online notebook in your desktop, you need to login with a personal Microsoft account. Once you are logged in with a personal Microsoft account, you can open a read-only version of the notebook in your desktop app and then copy from the master notebook to a personal notebook or your Class notebook. I find it easier to login with my personal Microsoft account at onedrive.com first, and then access the notebook to open it.

Looking for a way to quickly take notes without opening up a pad of paper and take handwritten notes? Well, you could consider using your laptop. OneNote is a digital notebook that is part of Microsoft Office 365.

And here's another great feature! OneNote uses OneDrive to sync your notebooks across all your devices. Therefore, if you update your notes on your surface, the notebook on your laptop or desktop will have the exact same content! This comes is very handy when taking down action items for a project you may be working on on your desktop, that you may want to review with the project team in a conference room with your laptop.

Whenever you type text that OneNote Online recognizes as a link (also known as a hyperlink), it automatically formats it as one. Once I had a similar issue - still don't know the reason, but it had something to do with caching of the affected notebook in the rich client. The solution was simply to close the notebook in the rich client (this removing it from the rich client's notebook list), after which the "Open in Onenote" method worked again.

To get the most out of OneNote Online, you'll need to familiarize yourself with its interface. Explore the ribbon tool bar to take notes, format text or images and share your notebooks to stay organized with other collaborators. Learn more about navigating the interface.

I have a notebook full of content I am looking to publish online, but the problem I am running into is I can't find a method that will retain the original formatting. I understand I might have to recreate the navigational tabs/pages, but I trying to avoid having to recreate the content in a different format.

I'm having exactly the same issue here... Having a Win10 platform with latest Win 10 environment with OneNote for Win 10 version 16001.14326.20458.0 and the latest version of Evernote just installed, trying to import an OneNote personal notebook via EVernote import feature, creates just a link instead of having the notes imported.

If you read the help document above, you see that first you need to export a zip-file from OneNote for each notebook there, before you can start importing anything. And from a zip file you will never get a link to the source program, you get the content that is in it.

In any case, the "Legacy" option suggested by @gazumpedis the only one that worked for me, although not flawlessly. Some sections of OneNote seem to be much harder to digest - without an obvious reason (such as big files in it or so). And you have to make sure that the OneNote contents is available locally (.e. notebook has been fully sync'd). So, I click on every note in a section and let it show before I initiate the import. Works like 75%, I'd say.

As Kemet mentioned, Evernote Legacy has an import function from OneNote. However, it won't work if you are trying to import OneNote notebooks which are located on OneDrive and are just cached on your PC (my experience is with Windows rather than Mac). My recommendation is to create a new OneNote notebook on your PC (File > New > This PC) and copy the notes that you want to import to Evernote into this new Notebook. Then use the import function in Evernote Legacy to import this notebook into Evernote. Works without a problem in my experience.

When your OneNote notebook resides in OneDrive, it is not stored as files and folders in it like other office files. So, you cannot use OneDrive synchronization client to download your OneNote notebook files to your local hard drive. Your data is accessible via API and you need client app to download it. You can use OneNote 2016 on Windows or Outline for Mac to do that. Another option is to export your notebook from OneDrive web site as a zip archive, but that will not work under some certain conditions.

There are two options of how you can export your data. You can use both of them. The only difference is as follows: When you export your notebook as OneNote Package your original notebook in OneNote stays connected to OneDrive, so you can continue using it.

OneDrive allows you to export your notebook as a zip archive using only a web browser. But, unfortunately, this doesn't seems to work with all subscription types. Also it doesn't work in some web browsers (feature is not accessible in Safari 15 at the moment). Nevertheless, this is the easiest option as you need just a web browser, so it's worth a try.

There may be a number of reasons why you can't find your OneNote notebook. If you're working on notebooks both online and offline, it may be that they are not syncing properly, and you will need to manually sync the notebooks yourself.

To disable OneNote syncing, go to the File > Info. Select View Sync Status, and you'll see a list of all your notebooks. Select Sync Manually to prevent automatic syncing. You can select Sync Now at any time to manually sync your information.

To delete notebooks in OneNote, go to Office.com and select OneNote from your apps list. Select Manage and Delete, choose the Documents folder, hover over the notebook you want to delete, and select the checkbox. Select Delete to delete the notebook. ff782bc1db
