Note that even if you've downloaded your songs the app can use data to update the cover cache, check for newer versions of a song and other general functions, that normally require internet connectivity. Keep in mind that the setting Download using cellular only affects downloads, not data used for streaming.

You can avoid this by setting your app in offline mode. You can learn how to do this here. We recommend using this setting instead of disabling cellular data through the iPhone setting menu, as it is the built in system that will definitely sever the connection to our servers.

Hey @rtufjcnfick, welcome to the Community.

Hope you're doing great!

Could you check if you have another app using your mobile data, if the option is actually turned off in Settings > Mobile Data for that app, there's no way an app can use mobile data in iOS.

If I have pending files to download, after I turn on cellular data and even with the setting disabled, the app will still force to download everything with cellular data. I have attached a screenshot of my data usage tracker app where you can clearly see it's Spotify the app consuming the most data.

Same here. A few weeks ago I started noticing Spotify suddenly using my cellular data even with the DL using Cell switch is off. I even went to App Info and App data usage and turned off background mobile data there too, and still while on strong 100mbps WiFi, I played about two hours of music today and noticed I burned 300mb mobile. Last month I burned over 2GB before I noticed. What the heck going on all of a sudden? Clearly there is a flaw with the recent updates. Android 8 on Moto Z Force.

Same issue with the latest version of the app in Android 9. The app is suddenly downloading songs (essentially refreshing already downloaded data) even when the relevant setting is turned off and mobile data is used. Never seen this before. The other day it nearly downloaded 500mb on its own, depleting my monthly plan in an hour before I figured out what was going on and which app was eating up my data. I wasn't even listening to music at that time, I wasn't using the app at all. Hoping for a fix ASAP, this is an issue that is costing your customers money.

I am having this problem too. I updated iOS and I thought it had fixed it, but today I noticed mobile data still being used. I have all mobile data settings disabled in my iOS settings, yet I am still able to listen to songs on the Spotify app. This is serious as I pay a lot for my mobile data, and have lost quite a bit of money so far, because often I'm not aware that Spotify is using my mobile data. Is there a process for getting a refund please??

Firstly, find the app named NetGuard, install it and set it to block all cell data usage from Spotify. Just click on the angled Cell Signal Strength icon next to Spotify, so it turns red with a slash, and you're all set. I've found this app so valuable is finding scores of other 3rd party apps sneaking cell data that I paid for the full version to create logs of all apps.

With every app update, it's been hit or miss on whether this issue pops up again, so I've defaulted to leaving NetGuard blocking the cell data, because frankly your app is unreliable in safeguarding this.

And BTW, it's interesting to see the various servers the app does try to reach out to. Facebook, GoogleUser, Akami, Amazon, and scores of others beyond your servers. Again, this is a rather serious issue which I don't believe is a priority to resolve. I've got my cell blocker and my cell data is no longer disappearing.

Hello, I'm facing troubles with spotify for a week now. When I'm on a WiFi everything works fine, but the moment I'm using my mobile data, it says that I'm not connected to the internet. I can't search for songs, play any albums, only my downloaded playlists.

I've tried: deleting and reinstalling Spotify

switching off and on my phone, soft resetting it too

resetting all my network settings

turning airplane mode on, off, same with mobile data - but it still doesn't work.

Everything else works with my mobile data, I'm not in offline mode within spotify, mobile data usage is enabled for the app. Latest version of spotify is installed, and my phone is also up to date. I'm really at lost here.

I tried many things to get my spotify family premium to work on cellular data. My husband and kids accounts (also on iPhones) never had a problem. Finally I went to settings / general / and reset all settings. I have wifi off, and it is working fine over cellular data connection. 1 hour on spotify chat and 20 minutes waiting for my phone's support line after trying almost everything I could think of to rectify the mysterious bug that would turn the cellular data toggle off on its own (only for spotify) didn't help until I read the right comment from someone else on this support string. Thanks and I hope this help someone else!

I've been having the same issue for weeks now, and I have tried everything that has been said before (loging out from all devices, reset all network settings, checking that mobile data is enabled for Spotify...)

I had been facing the same issue for days. Spotify worked on Wi-Fi but it just wouldn't connect to my mobile data (Vodafone). [Although I should mention that it WOULD sometimes randomly work on mobile data but that was very very rare and temporary]

I tried **bleep**ing everything -> re-installing, turning on data access, deleting cache, rebooting, turning off voice over LTE, ensured my mobile was running on the latest software update, allowed all app permissions and God knows what else.

When I would open my playlists, I couldn't play individual songs because obviously it wouldn't **bleep**ing connect to mobile data. BUT, if you hit 'Play' for the entire playlist, it will randomly play a song from it and if you then open the 'Que' you'll see all the songs from the playlist queued up randomly and now you can individually select a song from this 'que' and play it. Or you can just re-arrange the songs as per your liking.

Spotify allows you to download songs for offline listening, that being said I still want to turn mobile data on when im driving for my other apps but I want to make sure that spotify, under no circumstances, streams through mobile data.

This is a semi-common complaint from Spotify users. Spotify has an Offline Mode that allows users to restrict data usage and only allow playback of downloaded music or podcasts. It’s possible to accidentally enable this feature. If you head to Settings in the Spotify app, and click Playback, you should be able to see if Offline Mode is enabled. If it is, simply turn it off.If you’re on an iPhone, it’s also possible you’ve manually switched off mobile data usage for the Spotify app. To check, navigate to Settings > Mobile (Cellular) Data and scroll down to Spotify. If the toggle is green, mobile data is enabled. If it’s grey, then mobile data has been blocked in the Spotify app. To enable it again, simply tap the toggle button so that it’s green (on). Finally, some users have reported the issue to be something not so easily fixed. In cases where the above methods don’t work, resetting all Spotify settings has helped remedy the issue. In the Spotify app, navigate to Settings > General > Reset All Settings. The most desperate Spotify users have found this method to work in restoring mobile data connectivity. If nothing’s wrong on Spotify’s end, the problem might be with your service provider. If Spotify is working as expected on WiFi and you’ve followed the steps above, you might be experiencing connectivity issues. If it’s a network issue, you should notice issues outside of Spotify. Try running an internet speed test. If that fails to deliver a result, or download speeds are much slower than expected, it could be an issue with your mobile service provider or network. I'm a spotify premium member, I have had this problem for several days and I need some help with it. I am using an Xperia XZ1 Compact that is running Android. Spotify is giving me a 'No internet connection available" message and will not...

How much data does Spotify use? It depends on the sound quality you choose. The higher it is, the more data the streaming service will burn through. In any case, Spotify uses way less data than video streaming services (more on this later) and probably less than most people think. ff782bc1db
