If you try and download the new app from your iPad 1, when you select install, if there is still an older version/s of the app on Apple's servers, there will be a prompt that pops up asking you if you want to install the last compatible version of that app.

I worked the issue by using the Customer Contact on Amazon where I initiated a call and talked to a representative. The problem at that point of not being able to download the older Kindle version was fixed. The issue is between Amazon and Apple. Just make sure that Amazon is aware that the problem has returned and they will fix it.

Hi everyone! A friend of mine let me try his ebook during a trip and now i'm looking forward to buying one for me. As i don't want to spend so much money, i thought giving a chance to second hand market and found out an affordable 7th generation kindle. The problem is that i dont know if it will be outdated or it wont last as long as a new one, since it's my first one i have no idea. Any advice??

Unfortunately, it appears that in this new version of Kindle Mac app, Amazon has stopped supporting its URL scheme (kindle://book) . We do not currently see a work-around. The links that Hookmark created with the app have the title and location number, which one can use manually of course to get to the right book and location within it. Not nearly as convenient as just clicking on a link, of course.

Another minor point, but I told you this would be a thorough Kindle Paperwhite review. On the new generation of the Kindle Paperwhite, there are 9 font options available, compared to only 6 on the older generation.

Branding consultants Michael Cronan and Karin Hibma devised the Kindle name. Lab126 asked them to name the product, and they suggested "kindle", meaning to light a fire.[9] They felt this was an apt metaphor for reading and intellectual excitement.[10]

The Paperwhite 3 is the first e-reader to include the Bookerly font, a new font designed by Amazon, and includes updated formatting functions such as hyphenation and improved spacing.[71] The Bookerly font was added to most older models via a firmware update.[72] The official Amazon leather cover for the Paperwhite 3 is the same item as was used with the previous two Paperwhite devices.

The original Kindle and Kindle 2 did not allow the user to organize books into folders. The user could only select what type of content to display on the home screen and whether to organize by author, title, or download date. Kindle software version 2.5 allowed for the organization of books into "Collections" which behave like non-structured tags/labels: a collection can not include other collections, and one book may be added to multiple collections. These collections are normally set and organized on the Kindle itself, one book at a time. The set of all collections of a first Kindle device can be imported to a second Kindle device that is connected to the cloud and is registered to the same user; as the result of this operation, the documents that are on the second device now become organized according to the first device's collections. There is no option to organize by series or series order, as the AZW format does not possess the necessary metadata fields.

Amazon has just sent an email to a number of Kindle users who have older e-readers on their account. The company has stated that the Kindle (2nd Gen) International, Kindle DX International, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle (4th Gen), and Kindle (5th Gen) will no longer be able to browse, buy, or borrow books directly from these Kindle e-readers. The only way you can have books delivered to these devices to buy them from your local Amazon website and have them delivered to the Kindle. Existing books that are on these models will still be accessible.

Suffice to say, since Amazon has not publicly commented, TLS is just pure speculation, but I think this is the mostly likely explanation. The absence on modern TLS standards on older Kindles is one of the reason why older Kindles lost access to the full version of the Wikipedia site, although the popup cards still work. Wikipedia recently stopped supporting older TLS standards.

The above tools work great on Linux, and should work fine on Mac OS X too as they are all Python-based. In order to run them, you will need to install Python for Windows or Mac (which comes with Python, but apparently has older versions), or make sure you have packages for Python and its Tk binding installed on your Linux system.

Recently, I de-drm'd our family's collection of purchased Kindle e-books using skindle. The link is to a blog post giving step-by-step instructions for using it. It's Windows only and relies on having an installed version of Kindle for PC.

After turning on the Internet and connecting to your account, download yourbooks to the computer. They will by default be found in the folderC:\Users\USER\Documents\My Kindle Content and have strange names.

While the display is larger, the new Paperwhite is only a little bigger and weighs just 23 grams more than the previous Paperwhite (205g vs. 182g). The 2021 model also has a smaller 10.2mm bezel. It'd be nice if it was slightly slimmer and had almost no bezel, but it does feel like it's edging closer to being the perfect size. It remains small and light enough to fit in a jacket pocket with a more spacious screen. You get a similar sensation when you hold the flagship Kindle Oasis ($250) for the first time, but its metal back gives it a colder feel compared to the Paperwhite's textured plastic back.

In May 2022, Amazon announced that a number of older Kindle models will be losing the ability to access the Kindle store. If you're one of the people affected, here's what is going down and what the news means for you.

While the lack of buttons is the biggest change, there are other technological advances that older models are also missing out on. For example, all Kindle models nowadays have front-lit screens, a feature that single-handedly revolutionizes the entire reading experience. Plus, with some models, you can even use warm light on your Kindle to make reading at night easier than ever.

Today the Kindle library book would not download to the older Kindle version that I had been using. I had the most recent version of Kindle and downgraded to the lower one. That worked until today. Any update? Thanks.

I do not understand the above. Today I bought a book which was delivered to my PC kindle as an .asw file. Trying to import this into Calibre appears to go ok, but the cover and title is all wrong and author is UNKNOWN. Clicking on the book, you get an error message:

Thanks! That saved my life! I do hate reading on Kindle for Mac and convert everything to PDF on Calibre. On mac, they are not called kfx as an app designation, but have azw.md and other signifiers. And no longer convert. Hard to find this info on Google as well! Downloading the older version got me back in business!

And to make matters worse, I have not found a way to detect what the file type is as I buy an eBook from Amazon until after I have bought the book and tried to download it. I think some of the older titles are still in .azw but others, perhaps newer listings, are not. So what does Amazon think they are doing?

I think there are a lot of Baby Boomers who are getting older, have arthritis, have more time on their hands, love to read and have money to spend. Why now cut them out? Seems like a poor marketing choice.

Thats solution works for me:

1) I go to folder where it is placed the Kindle for Pc, and renamed the file renderer-test.exe to something (Ex: renderer-test-xxx.exe)

2) Open de Kindle for Pc application and removed the laste books with the problema of conversin with calibre.

3) Force to Kindle for pc to re-donwload these books

4) When the books are already downloaded, the new books are can now be converted with Calibre.

Kindles running firmware 5.14 or higher can go into Settings, Device Options, and Device Info. Your device's name should be the first thing listed. If you have a device running older firmware, use the serial number or the physical identifiers listed below.

The enormous 10.2-inch screen is ideal for taking notes, marking up PDFs, or doodling, and there are numerous paper formats you can choose, like college-ruled or dotted. The screen size does make reading easy too, especially if you need to increase the font size, but it takes away some of its portability if you prefer to keep an e-reader in your pocket or small purse. There are 16-, 32-, and 64-gigabyte options. Since it was released, Amazon has updated it with additional brush types, a convert-to-text in export tool, and better page navigation and subfolders. Weirdly, it's not waterproof like the other pricier Kindles. We've tried other E Ink tablets for writing, but this is probably the best (and cheapest) option.

Some older Kindles lost the ability to browse, purchase, or borrow new books directly from the device. However, you'll still be able to do so on Amazon.com on your computer or phone and have it sent to your Kindle, which is a better experience anyway. According to the company, the models affected are the Kindle 2nd Generation (International), Kindle DX International, Kindle DX Graphite, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4th Generation, and Kindle 5th Generation.

Hi @jlynk The current version of Pandora requires Fire OS 6 or higher. If your device is running an older version you will need to update your device's operating system. For some Kindle devices, you can update by going to Settings > General > About device > Software updates > Check for update. 2351a5e196
