Theft, loss or damage beyond repair: Regardless of what happened to your laptop, the important thing is what was on it. A new laptop may be costly, but not as costly as losing proprietary information.

Cloud storage or backing up to the cloud is a way of storing data with a trusted provider that you access through an online connection. Cloud storage providers store this data, like your sensitive documents, work materials or photos on their servers that they manage and secure. The storage provider is responsible for keeping the servers safe and running so that you can access your backed-up data whenever you need.

Ransomware is when a cybercriminal can get into your computer and lock up all the data inside. To release it, they will often ask for money, and often money paid by cryptocurrency. But sometimes, even when you pay the money they will hold it and ask for more.

Backing up your computer's most important information gives you peace of mind that you'll have a backup of files to restore, just in case you need it. If a cybercriminal encrypts or "locks up" the contents of your computer so that you can no longer access them, then you would lose them if not for a back up copy. Especially for your most important files that you don't want to lose, backing up gives you a way to protect your files in case of loss due to ransomware.

Cloud Backup (along with other) pop ups are driving me insane. I don't recall ever signing up for Cloud Backup. Maybe I did. But apparently I have filled up 100 GB and I am nagged ENDLESSLY all day every day by pop ups telling me I need to increase my storage capacity. I have another cloud back up service and I don't even need Norton Cloud Backup. I just want to turn it off or cancel it, but Norton has gotten so insanely complicated in recent years, that I literally cannot figure out if I am paying for Cloud Storage (and for that matter, even how much I'm paying for virus protection is a secret) and if so, how much, and I see no way to turn it off or cancel it. I tried using the Chat help desk, but of course that is broken. I clicked on the Chat button, and exactly nothing happens.

Fix problems with storage space in Cloud Backup

This problem occurs if you have fully used your online storage or if you do not have enough space for your online backups.

You can either,

Upgrade to the next higher plan to get more storage. Visit the Norton website to know more about the features and benefits that are offered with our other plans. For assistance, contact Member Services and Support (or)

You can delete a backup set if it is no longer needed. You cannot delete a backup set if only one backup set is available. However, you can create a new backup set before you delete the old backup set.

The cloud backup is speed is dependent on your internet upload speed. The size of the backup you are doing also determines how long the initial cloud backup will take. If you are using the computer while the backup is being done that will also slow down the backup as Norton lowers the priority of the backup so your foreground apps get better performance.

Thanks, the problem got so bad it stopped me from doing Virus scans, told me it was applying a fix, which then locked me out of the internet ( I have a good new laptop and a Fast fibre link). I reinstalled Norton twice before the Norton "Fix" left me alone) . Very Frustrating. Everything's fine now. Want nothing to do with Backup ( It's scary). Thank you for all your help Peter.

I have now spent over an hour trying to give Norton my money. I want to increase my Cloud Backup space since I am prevented from backing up to Google Drive. HOW DO I GIVE YOU MONEY TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. Nothing on the help pages, sales pages, customer service page, or even being sent to customer support works. I asked for customer support and it sent me to the Security People, more wasted time. 79848364 was the number assigned to me by the system for the help they could not provide.

The only way to get more backup is to go from deluxe to premium (or higher if you can find Platinum), but its not really worth it. 100 GB (premium) wont backup much, you are better off buying backup from a different company.

as far as I know:

Norton 360 plans come with a fixed amount of shared storage space.

Upgrade to a higher plan to get more storage space.

Remove previously backed-up files to free up storage space.

Why not do away with the added expense/headaches and use Macrium Reflect to image the entire drive? Been using it for years, its simple to install and use. Updates just as any other quality product should. I backup to an external USB drive for safe keeping. Separate drive images can be stored on the same backup devices and labeled. The storage limit will be limited to the amount of storage your backup drive has. Just an added thought and suggestion.

Thanks for the response. I had incorrectly referred to Norton "Save & Restore" as "Save & Restore 10" in my previous message when it should have said "Save & Restore 2.0". I have edited that message to make those corrections. Also, it's beginning to look as if "pre-version 11" editions of Norton Ghost will let me do a drive image backup of one logical drive (for example the "C:") but not let me backup folders such as "Documents",etc.

It is starting to look to me that to do what i am attempting (i.e. do a complete backup of "My Computer" in drive image format instead of backup/restore format, I will need to either purchase a later version of Norton Ghost or the current edition of Acronis True Image. If there *is* a way to do a complete drive image backup of "My Computer" using Norton Save & Restore 2.0, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks.

Norton Backup, from Symantec, is a fast and easy to use backup tool for MS-DOS. The original 1.0 suffered from reliability problems, but these were fixed in 1.1. It does not include a backup scheduler. It competed against backup utilities such as PC Tools Deluxe PC Backup, Taketwo Manager, Gazelle Systems Back-It, Backup Pro, FastBack Plus, and Keep Track Plus. 152ee80cbc
