De 6A300/6A301-update introduceert vijf nieuwe functies voor de verschillende AirPods-modellen, al is niet elke functie voor elk model beschikbaar. In onze round-up lees je welke nieuwe AirPods-functies er in iOS 17 en de nieuwste updates zitten.

Het is handig om eerst te checken of je de nieuwste firmwareversie al op je AirPods hebt staan. Hiervoor heb je de gekoppelde iPhone nodig, omdat de AirPods zelf geen eigen scherm of internetverbinding hebben.

Het updaten van de AirPods naar de nieuwste firmware gebeurt automatisch, terwijl je ze gebruikt. Dit kan enkele dagen tot weken duren, aangezien Apple deze updates gefaseerd uitrolt. Wees dus niet ongerust als jij nog niet de nieuwste firmware hebt, want de installatie zal vanzelf en ongemerkt plaatsvinden. Je krijgt geen melding als de update voor je klaarstaat of wanneer het installeren is gelukt.

Na een paar minuten kun je via Instellingen > Algemeen > Info > AirPods zien of de update inmiddels genstalleerd is. Het is aan te raden om altijd de nieuwste AirPods firmware te gebruiken, omdat daarmee bugs worden opgelost die bijvoorbeeld de batterijduur of de verbinding verbeteren.

Opmerkelijk is verder dat Apple nu een versie heeft zonder bedraad internet. Je kiest nu uit twee modellen: een model met 64 GB opslag en uitsluitend wifi, of een met 128 GB met wifi n ethernet. De eerste versie is eigenlijk geen optie voor mensen die er een serieuze thuisbioscoop op na houden, maar voor veel mensen zal ongecompliceerd streamen via wifi helemaal prima zijn.
