I too love your article! I am a WASP and married into a Lebanese family. Being from Louisiana I thought the wife to be was French. (LaHood) And soon I knew I was in a lovefest for Lebanese cooking and Kibbeh Nayeh was my favorite. My father in law was a master at preparing this dish. He was a grocer so they had a commercial meat grinder. Everything was made just like your Dad. Precious memories how they linger.

I love to make and eat Kibbeh Hayyeh! How safe is it to make it from New Zealand/Australian (previously frozen) lamb meat. Will this meat taste heavy and strong? What about American lamb meat? Is it any better or worse? Thank you.

Maureen, every time I read your recipes I feel like I was brought up in your house. All of our elders have since gone and I am the Kibbeh maker in the family. As I read your recipes I close my eyes and it brings back such wonderful memories of all the ladies in the kitchen making everything under the sun. Three families all eating together for Christmas Thanksgiving Easter when I was a child. Brings wonderful happy tears to my eyes. A lot of Lebanese people immigrated to Waterville Maine and are now gone. My sisters and I hold the traditions as best as we can. I love your blog and I hope I get to meet you someday. We had it quite often in every form imaginable. Baked, of course, arras made with LEBAN and mint and garlic, one of my favorites was kibbeh in KISHK. But my all-time favorite was fried kibbeh patties. I loved them because of the crunch that the bulgar wheat made when fried.

In the last episode, Saya tries to save Diva after having delivered her a fatal wound. She then attempts to kill herself and Diva's children to end the Chiropteran threat forever. After a lecture from Kai and a love confession from Hagi, however, Saya refrains from killing them or herself, leading to her confession that she really does want to live.

Saya first met Solomon during the school ball at Vietnam when she went undercover as one of its students. Despite being Diva's chevalier, Solomon fell in love with Saya. Because of this, Solomon often comes to Saya's rescue and declares that the bond he formed with her was beyond blood, because it is a path that he has chosen for himself. He denounced his connection to Diva and his fellow chevaliers and persuaded Saya to be his bride, promising her happiness, only for his affections to be rebuffed. He tried to kill Diva but failed and was kept in chains. After being set free by Nathan, he immediately saved Saya from James. Unfortunately he was too weak from blood loss due to his earlier fight with Diva and Saya's sword filled with her blood scraped him. He died a few minutes after leaving the scene, only to be witnessed by Amshel as he crystallized.

In 1870, Amshel purchases a twelve-year-old boy named Hagi from his parents. Though Saya believes he is supposed to be her friend, it is actually so that she will mate with Hagi and produce children. Due to her self-centered personality and Hagi's unhappiness at being taken from his family, they are initially antagonistic towards each other. After Saya recognizes his grief and comforts him, they become friends. At around this time, she first teaches him how to play the cello. As years pass Hagi grows to a man and the two soon fall in love.

With Diva dead, Saya turns to kill the babies and herself fearing that if they lived, they would be forced to become military weapons. Kai pleads her to live, promising to protect her and the babies and make anyone afraid of her understand. He smacks Hagi back to his senses in order to stop Saya. Hagi disobeys Saya for the only time in his life, taking her sword and confessing that he has loved her from the moment they met. Saya tearfully admits she wishes to live as she kisses Hagi and says she wants to live with him, Kai, and everyone else.

The news of possible bombing reaches them. She and Kai escape the opera house with the babies in tow as Hagi battles a returned Amshel and the US military begins bombing the building. Before the bombing happen, Hagi had asks Kai to protect Saya and give her a place to be happy, hearing this made Saya panic and Hagi then smiles like in the past and says nankurunaisa. He then says, "I will always love you Saya.", before the building started to collapses on him. Seeing this made Saya burst into tears as she screams his name in believing that he is dead.

Several years later, Kai and the children visit Saya at the crypt where there is a fresh pink rose with Hagi's blue ribbon is found, which proves to Kai that he is alive and waiting patiently for his love to wake up from her 30 year long hibernation.
