Attach a pretty grograin ribbon to the back of your new pompom wreath with a few floral pins. This will help it lay flat against your wall or door. Or you can slip it around the form before attaching the last few pompoms.

Using the floral pins (because regular sewing pins might not be strong enough) start attaching them to your wreath form. Poke through the thick middle of the pom pom and then into the wreath. Layer and fill in with smaller pompoms here and there.

Step 1: Work the amount of stitches desired until reaching the point to place the pompom. Ch 2 to count as the beginning of the pompom stitch. *Yarn over and insert hook in the 2nd ch from the hook. Draw up a loop, YO, pull through 2 lps on the hook. Repeat twice more into the same stitch, leaving the last lp of each dc on the hook for each stitch. You should have 4 lps on the hook.

This is an easy tutorial and a quick project on how to make fur pompom earrings. I love to learn while making, so I thought you might enjoy an easy way to make pompoms. In my post last week I used four fur pompoms attached to a piece of string to lace up the fur boots. It is the same technique I used when I made the fur scarf with pompom.

This time, however, I will show you how to make a pair of lovely earrings to stuff your stocking. This is also a great way to use your fur scraps. I don't know about you, but faux fur is so expensive I feel terrible throwing even a few inches away. As it turns out, you only need a couple of one and a half inch squares of scrap to accomplish this pair of fur pompoms earrings.

The first thing you need to do is to prepare your chain. If you bought the extension chains you will not need to do anything since they come with a jump ring and either a heart or a lobster claw. Mine has a small heart but if yours have a lobster claw and if you do not like it just stick it inside the fur pompoms and no one will be able to see it.

Sew the jump ring securing it to the top of the fur pompom.(Pardon me, but my mat it is looking worse for wear..) Below is what you should have and all it took was 15 minutes to make this pair of earrings. Here's a pinnable summary of these simple instructions.

You can use pompoms to make scarfs; you can use them to decorate stuff; and other stuff. Hell I don't know. So they might not be very useful but they are just so damn awesome that you won't be able to stop yourself once you get started making them. I'm no knitter but I'd probably knit a (very bad) hat just so that I'd have somewhere to stick my pom pom. My sister and I used to spend whole days making these during the school holidays. I always thought a pompom ball pool would be pretty amazing.

3. Take a long length of wool (several metres), fold it double and tie it onto your cardboard at one end. Begin to wind the wool around your template, passing it through the hole in the middle, over the edge and back through the middle. Work your way all around the template, creating a second layer of wool once you get back to the point where you started. You can actually fold your length of wool 4 or 8 times before you start wrapping it around the template, the more times you fold it the quicker your pompom will grow.

2. Use your fingers to find the centre of one of the pompoms and push your needle through it. Pull the pompom along the thread and slide it right down onto the button / bead. The button or bead should be completely buried in your pompom. Thread another button / bead onto your string and push it right down onto the pompom. Tie it in place to keep the pompom from sliding around on your thread. Make sure that the button / bead is hidden in the pompom.

These come together really quickly, and take just a few materials! At first I made them so long they were almost at my shoulders, but I figured I should maybe go a little subtler and take off a few inches. ? But hey, you do you! As a decorative item, at the time of the Great Depression, floppy berets topped with a bright red pompom known as a toorie became popular in Scotland. Compared with tassels and jeweled trinkets, the pompom was an economically sound embellishment, as it could be scrapped together with leftover yarn.

Step 6: Hold pompom maker in your hand, making sure to keep blue parts closed. Take a sharp pair of scissors and start cutting one of the sides, in between the blue parts as shown below. Continue cutting until you have made your way around the entire side. Then work the other side in the same manner, being careful to hold pompom maker together so that no pieces of yarn start to fall out.

Step 9: Using your sharp scissors, give your pompom a haircut by trimming the ends, making everything as uniform as possible. Use the yarn ends (that had been used to cinch and secure your pompom) to secure to the top of your hat (or to hang for decor if you choice!).
