Mrs. Coulter, a wealthy "friend" of the college, invites Lyra to stay with her in London. The Master of the college entrusts Lyra with her uncle's alethiometer, a compass-like artefact that reveals the truth, warning her to keep it secret. Kidnappers called "Gobblers" have been abducting children, including Lyra's friend Roger and Billy Costa, a young Gyptian. Lyra discovers Mrs. Coulter is head of the General Oblation Board, realising they are the Gobblers, and she and Pan escape when Mrs. Coulter's dmon attempts to steal the alethiometer.

It's not helped by the much less fantastical world. At some point we were half way through a scene before I realized we had switched to our world, with computers and smart phones. I didn't really pick up on it until they specifically said "your world" and I was like, oh right, there aren't computers in the rest of the show. The design of Lyra's world really just kinda feels... I don't know, Soviet? Does it feel Soviet to anyone else? I guess it could just be the budget, but the Gyptian ships, the golden compass, the spy bug machine, even the flying ships all just feel very mundane, nuts and bolts. There doesn't feel like there's any magic to this world even though there's talking animal souls and witches. I don't know how much of this is just because I saw the movie first though, so I have those visuals in my head. Is this what people reading the book thought the world looked like?

Here are two very different international versions. The first is the Danish cover, which takes the title literally and puts an actual compass on it. The second is the Spanish cover, which takes the common image of Lyra on Iorek, but draws it in a different style.

Guest are immediately drawn to the natural beauty of the main salon. The ornate Italian marquetry inlay of the large custom bar, entertainment center, and game table are striking features along with the coordinating custom granite countertops, tables, custom art work, and compass medallion entry. This area features the bar with 4 large armed chairs, a large couch, a round reversible (game/formal) table with 4 large arm chairs, a home theater system including all regions 50" pop up TV, DVDs, SAT receivers, iPod dock, Wii, and access to the central movie, music, and photo distribution system. Aft and to port is the staircase leading down to the lower guest foyer, around which four large en suite guest cabins are located.

The top deck is accessed by a staircase from the upper portside deck and encompasses the complete upper level of GOLDEN COMPASS. Forward on this deck is a Jacuzzi tub, large sun pads, seating areas, a full service bar, bar seating, a full back bar (both covered in exotic stone) with ice maker and refrigerator, a large stainless BBQ, and 4 chaise lounge chairs. Aft on this deck there is an expansive sun bathing pad. Above the bar is a water proof 42" flat screen TV with access to DVD player, iPod dock, and the central movie, music, and photo distribution system. This quality entertainment and sound system has prompted evening guests to turn this area from a sunning area into another dance floor with unobstructed ocean views.

If he starts to shot a golden arrow at you, go towards him at an angle. It will make it harder for his wolverine to jump on you and he will miss you every time. If you let him recover after a hit and you are too far away he will shot an ungodly number of arrows at you. So keep close and keep moving while you are attack.
