Drag shapes from Drawing Tool Shapes onto the drawing page to draw outlines of objects. For example, draw a belt system with the Circle tangents and Arc tangents shapes, and use the Rounded rectangle shape to represent tanks or vessels.

You can embed the Visio Drawing Control in Visual Basic 6.0, Visual C++ 6.0, Visual Studio, and other ActiveX control containers. However, you cannot embed the Visio Drawing Control in another Visio drawing, another ActiveX control, a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) form in Visio, or a Visio solution window.

By default, when a Web drawing opens it displays the page that was open when the diagram was last saved, and at the same zoom level and pan position. You can override this to display the view as it is set when you select this option and click Apply or OK

I am creating a server topology for one of our SharePoint farms and thought it would be easy to just link the Excel spreadsheet with our server information to the Visio drawing to auto-populate some things. It didn't work out that well, but the drawing is finished without it now. I cannot remove the link between the Excel spreadsheet and the Visio diagram. Whenever the drawing is opened the linked excel server list opens in a pane at the very bottom of the window. How would I eliminate the data link? Or just the spreadsheet from view when being opened?

Floor plans are scaled drawings that show the footprint or cross section of a building or other structure. They are used to ensure proper sizing as well as the location of rooms and other items, like furniture, relative to one another. Floor plans are also called house plans, blueprints, architectural plans, building plans and schematics.

Visio includes an application programming interface (API) that employs object models that allow users to create scripts that automate certain features of Visio, such as opening a new diagram, altering shape behavior, customizing the user interface (UI), or adding shapes to an existing diagram. With the right code, a user can have a diagram created automatically by inputting data or linking to an external data source (like Excel), rather than needing to create the diagram manually by dragging in and/or drawing each portion of the diagram.

I created a Visio diagram using the default 8.5x11 size, but now I want to resize to print on an 11x17 sheet. The problem is when I change the size only the background, (blank white space) expands to 11x17, but the drawing itself doesn't change. If I select all objects and drag the size to fill out the empty 11x17 space everything expands except text sizes, and all of my arrow connections get messed up.

So basically I have to redo the whole thing.

There's got to be a better way to simply bump up the size on existing Visio drawings. I know I'm not the first person to create a drawing on 8.5x11 and later wanted to increase the size to print on a larger paper or have more space to add things.

You will need Microsoft Visio Standard or Professional in order to view and use these stencils correctly. The files listed for download on this page are .vss (Visio stencil) files within .zip files. Some of the .zip files contain Microsoft PowerPoint files in addition to Visio files. The PowerPoint files contain .emf (enhanced metafile) vector images derived from the Visio drawings. These may be copied and pasted into PowerPoint and other applications without requiring Visio.

Regardless of how you get there, you will start with a blank Drawing canvas. Across the top is a menu bar with the various tools you can use for you drawing. The menu bar contains the standard collection of lines, arrows, and shapes, as well as the obligatory text box. Using the array of shapes available, and filling in colors with the paint bucket you can create a colorful chart or diagram.

In a nutshell, Google Docs Drawing is nice if you need to collaborate in real-time, but overall Drawing compared to Visio is like comparing Microsoft Paint to Adobe Photoshop. It can fill a rudimentary need, but it is not versatile enough for more complex drawing projects.

I've been trying to create PDF files from my Visio drawings. My current method is very simple, just "Save As" pdf in Visio. One issue I have is that the inter-character spacing becomes uneven after the drawing is converted to pdf. I've attached two images here. The first one shows the original font in Visio and the other shows the distorted font in PDF.

I observed the same spacing problem with Visio 2013's export to PDF feature, but not when outputting a PDF using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro. It also appeared when pasting a Microsoft Visio drawing object or pasting and EMF from Visio into Word 2013; however, inserting a WMF from the same Visio drawing does not have the problem. I had just started using 2013 although 2016 versions were already available. I did not have the problem with Visio/Word 2007. -- 7/2016: I left most of my prior observations, but this, the issue appears to have been fixed by Microsoft Update.

The integration works as follows: The TotalAgility Microsoft Visio add-on provides a one-way conversion process. Once you convert a Visio drawing into a TotalAgility XML file, you cannot convert the XML file back into a Visio drawing for editing.

A significant benefit to creating your next diagram with Google Drawings is the collaboration capabilities of the tool. Google makes it simple for multiple users to open and edit any drawing simultaneously.

Since Google Drawings is part of the Google suite family, it easily integrates with other Google products. For example, sharing with Gmail users is easy, and you can upload your final creation for storage on Google Drive. You can also connect Google Sheets to Google drawings to create diagrams with your data.

The two-dimensional and isometric hardware products drawings are available in PDF (Adobe Acrobat), DXF (AutoCAD), VSS (Visio Stencil) formats, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) objects for Revit, and can be downloaded and inserted into your bid specifications and designs.

Don't rule out the free LibreOffice Suite which supports all versions of Visio from version 1 to present. It will open the Visio drawing in its Draw program, from which you can add to the original drawing, and save as an ODG drawing document. You can also export the Visio drawing in other graphic formats, or PDF.

You can quickly create a generic org-chart or flowchart with default shapes by simply using the export feature, but you also have the option to specify the shapes you want to use for each topic in the exported drawing. To do this you select a Visio stencil and then use the imported shape icon markers to code the topics in your map. You do not have to choose a shape icon marker for every topic - un-coded topics will be exported using a default shape. For flowcharts, you can indicate process flow by adding summary boundaries and relationship lines to your map.

Firstly, all Teams users have the ability to freely view Visio documents that they are given access to, and they can start or join in on Teams Conversations about a particular Visio drawing. These conversations can take full advantage of the messaging and alerting features in Teams. No Visio license is required to do this, and the diagrams can be panned and zoomed, can have multiple pages, and hyperlinks on shapes can be followed.

Teams users who have a Visio for Web license (either Visio Plan 1 or 2) can add comments directly to a page or shape within the Visio document, and they can create or edit Visio drawings that can be shared with others in Teams channels.

The default New / Visio drawing in the SharePoint document library is a blank Visio diagram. Shapes can be searched for and added to the diagram from a collection of stencils hosted on the web by Microsoft. However, more choices of Visio templates and sample diagrams are available from the Visio app on the Office 365 waffle button drop down List of Microsoft Services. This is a similar list of templates available to the File / New from within Visio for Web.

SharePoint Document Libraries can be added, and of course, they can be libraries that contain multiple Visio documents. However, the ability to create a New / Visio drawing is not available yet within the Teams tab. However, the option to create a New / Visio drawing is available if the document library is opened within SharePoint Online.

When I need to draw technical diagrams for projects we're working on using Azure I need shapes that represent the services we're using and it's not too difficult to find sets of shapes that can be used in Microsoft Visio. But I don't have a licence for Visio and so instead I tend to use the popular drawing tool Draw.io
