This album started as a series of recording sessions for a crowdsourced magic sound effects sound library. I ordered a number of bells, chimes, shakers, and more, and specifically set about recording them at 192 kHz with ultrasonic-capable microphones to preserve their high-frequency content when subjected to extreme pitch shifting. I also used unusual recording techniques, like striking chimes and then dipping them into water, recording the result with a hydrophone (similar to this technique I posted about many years ago).

As transducers, microphones convert sound waves into electrical signals. Since sound is a mechanical form of energy, it produces a series of vibrations that hit a diaphragm (either metal or plastic) which is located inside the microphone. When the diaphragm vibrates, the mechanical vibrations can then be converted into electrical signals.

Microphones can be classified based on directivity and construction. In terms of directivity, they can be unidirectional (when microphone sensitivity is strongest in a particular direction), bi-directional (when it is strongly sensitive in two directions), or omni-directional (when it picks up sound equally in all directions). In terms of construction, there are condensers, dynamic, ribbon, piezoelectric, carbon and MEMS microphones.

The Arduino environment can be extended through the use of libraries, just like most programming platforms. Libraries provide extra functionality for use in sketches, e.g. working with hardware or manipulating data. To use a library in a sketch, select it from Sketch > Import Library.

A number of libraries come installed with the IDE, but you can also download or create your own. See these instructions for details on installing libraries. Curbside Services You can park in one of the designated spots in front of the library and follow park and text instructions on the sign. You can also call the Library to schedule your pickup, or just come to the Fountain Library front door and a staff member will assist you. After asking for your name and library card number, staff will retrieve your items, check out your holds, and provide them as quickly as possible.

Beginning Jan. 9, 2017, PPLD will no longer charge fines on overdue children and teen items. Removing overdue fines will provide greater opportunity for children and teens to use the full range of library services. Currently, 15% of children and teen cardholders are blocked from checking out items at the library due to overdue fines.
