Download Md4ws.msi

Replace \\servername-or-dfs-space\share-name with the UNC path, using the file server's fully qualified domain name (FQDN), of the shared install.ps1 file. The installer package md4ws.msi must be placed in the same directory. Ensure that the permissions of the UNC path allow write access to the computer account that is installing the package, to support creation of log files. If you wish to disable the creation of log files (not recommended), you can use the -noETL -noMSILog parameters.

In February 2023 I downloaded md4ws.msi from security.microsoft.com to onboard Server 2012R2/2016 devices and had no problems with that installer. I decided to download again to work on some other servers but I got kickback from the newer MSI, it complained that KB2999226 (from 2015) wasn't present on a 2012R2 server where it was indeed installed and on a 2016 server where the update isn't even applicable! Fortunately I had the February MSI on hand, used it, and had no issues with the install and onboarding.

I have issues installing Windows Defender ATP on Windows Server 2016. What I did is I downloaded the installation package (md4ws.msi), then run it on the server. I get the error saying that the Windows Defender is not update to updated. I updated as showed in the picture and run the installation package again but I got the same error. I don't know what I missed.

I am in the process of onboarding my servers on MS Defender platform. When trying to install MDAV agent (md4ws.msi), i get an error saying " Please install Update for Universal C Runtime in Windows (KB2999226)". The fun thing is that this update is not applicable to Windows 2016. Any idea what could be causing the issue? 006ab0faaa
