The Duke Math Meet (DMM) is a regional mathematics competition for high school students hosted by Duke University each year. The contest is organized by the members of the Duke University Mathematics Union (DUMU) and is sponsored by the Duke Mathematics Department. The 2023 Duke Math Meet will be held on November 4th.

We do not permit the use of electronic devices of any kind during the test. Contestants are not allowed to refer to external sources, such as other people or books, for help. As a general rule, un-mathematics-like behaviors will be frowned upon. All numerical answers should be reduced to the simplest form.

This year, the Duke Math Meet returned to being held in-person on Saturday, November 5th during which time the students had fun solving challenging mathematics problems while meeting new people and making friends with contestants from other schools and states. Roughly 230 students from 40 teams around the country participated in the 2022 Duke Math Meet, with four teams from ITCCC in Beijing participating late Saturday evening. The Department of Mathematics of the George Washington University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor. Our priorities are analysis, combinatorics and logic. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at all undergraduate and graduate levels, excel in research, interact with researchers in mathematics and other disciplines and become actively involved in the life of the department and the university.

Basic Qualifications: Applicants must possess a PhD in mathematics, have an excellent research record as evidenced by publications, work in progress and research funding and excellent teaching credentials as demonstrated by letters from peers or supervisors.

Professor Daniel Ullman will be the director of the William Lowell Putnam Competition for 2017-2021. This position brings to GW the world's preeminent collegiate mathematics competition.

Professor Svetlana Roudenko taught Math Circles classes for grades 3-4 and 5-6 at the University of California-Berkeley in fall 2016. These are the outreach activity math classes geared towards kids training to participate in Olympiads, and in general, increase the knowledge of deeper mathematics.

Recent graduates with PhD in mathematics: Carl Hammarsten (currently visiting assistant professor at Lafayette College); Leah Marshall (currently at the US Census Bureau); Tom Savitsky (postdoctoral position in bioinformatics & biostatistics at Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas A&M University); David Shoup (currently assistant professor at Alvernia University); Jing Wang (currently assistant professor at Christian Brothers University).

The AMC 10/12 provides an opportunity for high school students to develop positive attitudes towards analytical thinking and mathematics that can assist in future careers. The AMC 10/12 is the first in a series of competitions that eventually lead all the way to the International Mathematical Olympiad (see Invitational Competitions).

A. The AMC 10 covers mathematics normally associated with grades 9 and 10. The AMC 10 assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. What are excluded are trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry. The AMC 12 covers the entire high school mathematics curriculum, including the above, as well as trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, but excludes calculus.

Ms. Richburg expects to graduate in December 2023 and hopes to pursue a job in mathematics or statistics, continue rescuing cats, and apply the skills and knowledge she has acquired during her time at EKU.

It will help learners to develop confidence in, and a positive attitude towards, mathematics and to recognise the importance and relevance of mathematics to their everyday lives and to society. It will enable learners to appreciate the coherence, creativity, elegance and power of mathematics.

"I'm really curious. If there's something that's not known then I want to see if I can fill in some of the gaps," said Yu, who recently transferred from majoring in discrete mathematics to computer science.

"We're looking for ways to group all of the lines and assign colors to the lines by minimizing the difference between the number of lines of different colors," Yu said. Work like this is foundational for combinatorics, a branch of mathematics dealing with combinations of objects belonging to a set. Methods can be used to count potential outcomes in probability experiments. It also can be used to develop estimates for how many operations an algorithm may need.

"Combinatorial discrepancy is an important field with many connections to the rest of mathematics and applications in computer science," said Yu, whose work was supported by a Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship(opens in new window), which awards $3,500 to undergraduates at CMU for eight to 10 weeks of summer research in any field of study.

Yu's work often exists at the intersection of mathematics and computer science. Last summer he worked with John Mackey, a teaching professor in the Mathematical Sciences and Computer Science(opens in new window) Departments, and Marijn Heule, an associate professor of computer science.

Apply for NCTM's Mathematics Education Trust grants, scholarships, and awards. Funding ranges from $1,500 to $24,000 and is available to help math teachers, prospective teachers, and other math educators improve the teaching and learning of mathematics.

About the Contest: The AMC 10 and AMC 12 are both 25-question, 75-minute, multiple-choice examinations in high school mathematics designed to promote the development and enhancement of problem-solving skills. About the Contest: MOEMS, short for Math Olympiads for Elementary and Middle Schools is a large and popular mathematics competition for students in grades 4 through 8. It is held yearly from November through March with one test administered each month. Tests are given at individual schools and results are sent to MOEMS for scoring. Read more>>

About the Contest: The Purple Comet! Math Meet is a free, annual, international, online, team, mathematics competition designed for middle and high school students that has been held every year since 2003. Teams of from one to six students compete by submitting solutions to a list of mathematics problems. These can be used by teacher and coach, by a professional learning community, or by teachers reflecting on their own practice, to enhance instruction along the lines that the TRU Framework indicates are important. Two key sets of documents, the TRU Conversation and Observation guides, are available in domain-general and mathematics-specific versions.

The provisional figures below show the number of entries for GCSE English language and mathematics for exams sat in November 2023. Schools and colleges submitted the data to awarding organisations by 26 October 2023.

GCSE mathematics is a tiered qualification with foundation and higher tiers. The tier of entry determines the possible range of grades. The November entries followed a similar pattern to previous years with the majority (95%) of entries being for the foundation tier.

In this release, Ofqual presents data on the number of provisional entries for GCSE English language and mathematics received by awarding organisations for the November 2023 exam series. In England, GCSE English language and mathematics exams are routinely available in November. Since 2017, entry to the November series has been limited to students who were aged 16 or above on 31 August of the year of the November series. In 2020 and 2021, any students, including younger students, who were entered in the summer and wished to do so could sit the November exams. The 2020 and 2021 series were also open to students the awarding organisations believed had intended to enter in the summer but were unable to do so.

The Applied Mathematics program supports mathematics research motivated by or having an effect on problems arising in science and engineering. Mathematical merit and novelty, as well as breadth and quality of impact on applications, are important factors. Proposals to develop critical mathematical techniques from individual investigators as well as from interdisciplinary teams are encouraged.

The Delaware Department of Education released the Delaware K-12 Mathematics Framework today, defining effective and equitable mathematics systems in the state and providing education leaders with the direction, resources, and support needed to provide all students with the mathematics instruction they deserve.
