in ios 16, branded live wallpapers and special ones for the iphone xs max model have completely disappeared, which is very sad, I hope that Apple developers will return live wallpapers from live photo and exclusive for that model live wallpapersand that I have already tried to put several live photos as wallpaper, but they are just like a static picture and more than one tip from apple care support did not help
Android had live wallpapers ages ago and apple is still unable to crack it. The long press in ios to animate wallpaper concept belongs to the stone age. Bored of seeing the same icons and theme in ios. I might as well switch to android as it offers loads of customization and the phone turns magical and lively. If I'm paying 1000 bucks, I want the phone screen to look how I want it not how apple wants it!

Please stop yelling, DEV knows better what you like and what is not necessary for you any more. They just remove live photo so accept it, adapt yourself to new idea bacause probably you don't understand it at all. Of course they could did a pinch gesture (android style) or L gesture or any other gesture to enable edit mode for lock screen insted of hold a touch what was a live photo start but... if they decide to remove it it's just done. Sometimes if you take out you phone from a pocket and realize that lock screen widget was changed due to self auto hold touch and random edit of lock screen, please don't scream it's a new surprise like 1st April so be smiled and happy you just get a bonus.
What the heck!? I had no idea the new iOS would remove the Live Photo wallpaper..I spent way too much time designing my own wallpaper in Photoshop and Aftereffects. It made my phone look like a sci-fi prop when pressed. It was my favorite wallpaper, and used it for years!Why would you guys get rid of the Live Photo wallpaper, WHY!?
I've done ALL the suggested tasks in order to get the live wallpapers to work...still nothing. I have the iPhone x iOS 11.2. I can't even get the preview of the live wallpapers to work in settings. And when I choose a live wallpaper and then view on my lock screen it acts like a perspective image.
Personally, not a fan of Live Wallpapers, mainly because they don't really do much even when they work. And to make it work (note: it only works on the lock screen to begin with) you have push harder on your screen for the Wallpaper to actually move.
I think the problem is people see the TV commercials where the wallpaper is moving all on its own. In reality, it simply doesn't work that way. You have to push hard on the screen to get the wallpaper to move.
On IPhone 8, I had to press and hold down harder than I thought I would need. It worked then. When I just rested my finger upon the screen, nothing happened. When I applied a more forceful press, it proceeded to animate.

VLC runs the video as desktop wallpaper, but the video stays in the foreground and is always hiding my taskbar and desktop icons. When I press the Windows Key from keyboard, it shows the taskbar temporarily as long as the video is out of focus (desktop icons are still hidden).
I want the video in the background (as wallpaper) with my desktop icons and taskbar always visible. I mean the video should run in the background (not in the foreground) like a normal wallpaper (it stays in the background).
Well at one time VLC's desktop mode seems to have been able to show both the taskbar and desktop icons (see here) but it seems that feature isn't working correctly anymore and hasn't for years. I tried looking around the VLC forum for solutions and the only output that currently seems to work is Direct3D9 video output (I tested all the other outputs in the latest VLC version to make sure), as Sancho pointed. I did see one solution on the VLC forums that I didn't think of and though it doesn't perfectly solve the problem it may be a useful substitute if you don't wish to use a third party program. If you right click the taskbar and look at toolbars (at the top), you'll see an option that says desktop which will place an icon that when clicked allows you to select your desktop icons from a list.
update: After thinking about it a little more a better solution would probably be to use a earlier version as a portable app simply for the wallpaper. The Think Geek article I linked was published in 2017 so I checked the portable versions published in 2017 and it seems that it was likely 2.2.5-2.2.8.
