With only one package to manage, testing and internal certification of print drivers is simplified by the use of the Lexmark Universal Print Driver packages. Time spent on installation, both on servers and workstations, is greatly reduced, and hard drive space formerly occupied by many product-specific drivers is now diminished significantly.

The Lexmark Universal Print Driver packages use the same graphic user interface as the product-specific drivers the users are accustomed to, and now all queues will share that same interface, decreasing calls to the help desk. Users can create and save profiles for their most frequently used settings, or use profiles that were created for them by IT.

The new user interface of the Universal Print Driver provides a more consistent look and feel across all printer models, with controls and settings that have been modified to provide better language support and overall customer experience.

With the new Universal Print Driver installer, administrators can choose to create preconfigured installation packages that include only the software and drivers that meet their organization's needs. This is accomplished by combining the custom installation package with Driver Configuration Files (DCFs), which lets administrators create a deployment package that best suits their environment. DCFs are described in more detail below.

The latest version of the Universal Print Driver has the ability to update its user interface to reflect the features and options of any supported printer model. When the driver is connected to a printer through USB or over a network, the driver automatically updates its configuration, showing only the features and functions of a chosen printer model. For example, only the paper sizes, trays, paper types, finishing options, and other options that the printer supports are shown to the user.

Administrators can use the Printer Driver Configuration Utility to create driver configurations. A driver configuration is a group of saved printer driver settings and other options that is stored in a Driver Configuration File (DCF). You can also create subset driver configurations that work across different printer models. You can use the utility to:

Each package includes a Microsoft WHQL certified 32 and 64-bit PCL 5 emulation, PCL XL emulation, PS3 emulation and HBP universal printer driver. These driver packages will upgrade your existing installation of the universal printer driver.

The Mac UPD driver comes in 2 variants. The Color driver package is meant to work on color printers, whereas the Mono driver package will work on the mono printers. Each of the driver package comes in a DMG file format. These drivers will work for both ARM and Intel Architecture.

I also got this printer 4 xmas 2 years ago, only used once with windows to print tickets for traveling, i had some spare time yesterday night, and connected it to my 11.0 box an entered yast.

I was suprised that lexmark drivers was installeble in yast.

You are indeed right that you can update the pages on OpenPrinting, and if you can get the lexmark going, great; please update and other users will be very pleased; it is a great final step for users to update with accurate information

I have a Lexmark E260dn printer which I used to print over the network. My wife and I just upgraded to the new MacBook Air / MacBook Pro with M1 processor. We're able to find and add the E260dn over the network, but it won't print and it's not even possible to open the print queue. I've already tried the 'Reset printing system' option, but it did not help. The printer status just shows "Paused, Last Used".

The printer-specific drivers from Lexmark are only for Intel-based Macs - please refer to _us/printer/4617/Lexmark-E260dn. The printer supports Bonjour, but how do I get it working? My other printer, a HP Photosmart C4385, works just fine via Bonjour.

There are also universal print drivers from Lexmark ( _us/support/universal-print-driver.html). The E260dn printer is compatible with the Windows version ( _us/support/universal-print-driver-compatibility.html), but I cannot find anything about the E260dn or Big Sur in the white paper for macOS ( -paper/y2020/Lexmark_UPD_1b_TWP_mac_en.pdf).

According to -gb/HT201465#Lexmark my printer is supported. But I got the new M1-based MacBook Pro, not the Intel-based one. The E260dn supports LPR/LPD, Direct IP, HTTP, IPP 1.1, FTP, TFTP, Enhanced IP, and also Bonjour. Installing it via Bonjour results in the printer heating up right before the config task finishes, but afterwards I can't get it to print. So I tried installing it via IPP, which yielded the same result. But finally adding it via LPD worked! I also tried installing Lexmark's Universal Print Driver (monochrome package), which turns out to work as well (seems to be independent of the CPU unlike the specific Lexmark printer drivers from _us/printer/4617/Lexmark-E260dn.

So while this is great news (THANKS!), one thing that still puzzles me is that a click on the printer queue ("Open Print Queue") for any of my 2 installed printers (the Lexmark and the HP) does not open anything. I did some searching and came across the following article which provides a fix for this issue:

When Ubuntu 20.04 LTS came out my network was slightly different and I could have a hard coded and reserved IP address for my Lexmark CS310dn printer. It's on a hardwired network port. I could print to it from both Ubuntu 20.04 LTS and Fedora 32 and Fedora 33 just fine.

Nothing on Linux can print to it. It only shows up once in the printer list, rather than twice like every other printer on the network. When you select it as a print target the task just hangs at "gathering printer information."

Lexmark International, Inc. is a privately held American company[3] that manufactures laser printers and imaging products. The company is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. Since 2016 it has been jointly owned by a consortium of three multinational companies: Apex Technology, PAG Asia Capital, and Legend Capital.[4]

Lexmark was formed on March 27, 1991, when investment firm Clayton & Dubilier completed a leveraged buyout of IBM Information Products Corporation, the printer, typewriter, and keyboard operations of IBM.[5][6][7][8][9] Lexmark became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange on November 15, 1995 (under NYSE:LXK).[10]

A court victory in 2005 was handed to Lexmark in the case of ACRA v. Lexmark. This case states that Lexmark can enforce the "single use only" policy written on the side of Lexmark printer cartridge boxes sold to certain large customers at a discount, with the understanding that the customers will return the cartridges to Lexmark after using them. This means that these customers can face lawsuits if they breach the agreements and do not return the cartridges.

Also in 2005, Lexmark suffered a legal defeat in the case of Arizona Cartridge Remanufacturers Ass'n Inc. v. Lexmark International Inc., when the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Lexmark's petition for a writ of certiorari, thereby rejecting their attempt to have the Court hear their case. In this case, the defendant was a manufacturer of microchips that allowed third-party ink and toner cartridges to work on printers, including many manufactured by Lexmark. Such printers incorporated a feature that would require authentication from a microchip within the ink/toner cartridge in order to function; this was designed to prohibit users from refilling the cartridges. However, a recent firmware update allowed Lexmark to prevent end users from refilling ink cartridges or using third-party ink cartridges. 2351a5e196
