One simple method to update drivers in Windows 7 or Windows 8 is to navigate to Check for Updates in your Control Panel (under the Security heading). You can access the Control Panel from the Start menu. Check for any updates that may apply, then view and install them. A restart may be required, so be sure to save all work and close any open applications before you begin.

If you have a Windows 10 laptop or Windows 10 desktop PC, you can find Windows Update by running a search from the Start menu or by navigating to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update. Once you open Windows Update, you may be presented with several different options. These include:

If there are driver updates available, the "Download" option will appear. Click it to start the update process. Your driver upgrades will be downloaded and installed, and you may be prompted to restart your computer.

In some cases, no updates will be listed. However, you can still verify that your computer is up to date by clicking the "Check for updates" option. If no updates appear, then your computer software, including drivers, is up to date and no further action is necessary.

You may also consider selecting "Advanced options." In this window, you can choose how upgrades are installed, whether or not to defer automatic updates, and how your updates are delivered. If you don't have specific preferences, it is recommended that you leave them in their default state.

To determine the make and model of your graphics card, go to the Start menu and search for "device manager." When a shortcut for the Device Manager appears within the search results, click on it. In Windows 10, you can access the Device Manager by navigating to Windows System -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers.

Once you are inside the Device Manager interface, you should see your computer's various devices listed. These may include battery (if using a laptop), computer, disc drive, display adapters, DVD/CD-ROM drive, keyboard, and more. The option you are looking for is "display adapters."

The problem began a few weeks ago when my display started to flicker on the login screen. Recently the flickering became much worse, especially when browsing the web. Any update to the image on the display causes flickering. When it's at it's worst, even typing causes it to flicker and the screen will go completely black.

I have two graphics cards installed, but switching between them (using AMD Catalyst Control Center) does not help. The problem also persists when booting into my Windows 8 partition. Restarting the computer sometimes helps temporarily. The display does not seem to be affected at all by jiggling or tapping. I stripped a screw trying to open the computer up, so I haven't been able to check for loose connections or other damage yet.

I now think that this is a hardware issue with the screen itself. When I turn the display back-light completely off and shine a light at the screen I can see that the pixels are still being rendered and there is no flicker.

One thing that you may want to check is pushing the settings buttons on the side. If the menus are problematic as well, your screen is likely going out. If you have a spare screen or device, you will want to go with process of elimination. But if you don't, that my be something that you can try.

As for the stripped screw, you can try using a nail and tapping it lightly at an angle to move the screw out (unscrew) very slowly. The other option is to take an old bit and superglue ( or JB Weld) it to the screw and carefully remove it.

I had a similar problem with a lenovo laptop. Screen flickers, goes black. There is a video on youtube demonstrating a fix. Basically, remove the keyboard and top and underneath is a video chip dongle which, when removed and put back, fixes the problem.

Since you have Windows also on your computer. May have opened up a stronger possibility of getting a computer virus that is causing this issue. I would try running a virus software like COMODO antivirus. I am not saying that this is the only answer or solution. Just that this is a strong possibility.

3. When you mentioned that by uninstalling the Xe graphics driver you can prevent any crashes from happening, do you mean that you uninstalled the latest driver and then everything worked out as it was supposed to or do you mean that you not only uninstalled the driver but disable the Xe graphics as well?

4. You mentioned that AMT has been configured, can you please share with us what steps you followed to configure it, if possible, if you followed a guide or a document you can share it with us or send the link where you get it from, if not you can let us know what the steps you took by just send them written in your next response.

I have tried installing the driver provided by Lenovo, the driver provided by Windows update, the driver provided by Intel Driver & Support Assistant, and the latest BETA driver. However, all of them will lead to the igdkmdn64.sys BSOD.

By uninstalling the Xe graphic driver, the name of the device became "Microsoft basic display adapter". Remote desktop and SOL provided by AMT can work in this state without crashing the system. Booting into safe mode can also prevent Windows from crashing.

The admin mode provides the option to access the machine without user consent; this mode requires a third-party Certificate for Intel AMT to validate the access. The Certificate will include a PKI DNS suffix (usually the domain of the company) and needs to be added to the MEBx BIOS.

For me, disabling the Xe graphics driver and the AMT behaves as I would expect: Remote Desktop as well as SOL work properly. All I want to know is how to use Remote Desktop and SOL properly without disabling the Xe driver, and I think we're getting pretty far from that topic.

Please contact Lenovo first; they are the system manufacturers and have access to custom drivers and chipset board firmware; they need to review if any PC settings are damaging the performance. If you already have a Lenovo case number, please share it with us.
