I have never pre-ordered a book on the Kindle store before, and was thinking of doing so for a book that will be released in a couple months. Is there any big advantage to pre-ordering an ebook versus buying it at the time of release? (There is no way I would forget to buy it, as I'm really looking forward to it and will download it ASAP at midnight when it's released and read it overnight.)

I know that if I pre-order, Amazon won't charge for the ebook until it is actually released. Does pre-ordering still speed up the payment process though, e.g. they will already have checked that the credit card is valid, so chances of the payment being rejected at the time of release will be lower or something like that? (I might be out of the country at the time of the book release, so I'm a bit worried that if I don't pre-order, the website may sense a foreign location for the transaction and decline the purchase at the time of release or something.)

Sorry if these are stupid questions! It's my first time considering pre-ordering a Kindle ebook. (I also don't have a separate Kindle device; I just use the Kindle cloud reader on desktop if that makes any difference.) Thanks for any information/advice!

If you have an ebook reader but struggle with finding light to read, get frustrated with slow page turns or low resolution, or merely hate how big your current device is, upgrading to a new one might be worthwhile.

The cheapest Amazon Kindle is also the best e-reader for most people. Its affordable price, portability, upgraded display, 16 GB of base storage, and USB-C charging compatibility check the most-important boxes, plus Amazon offers a massive ebook catalog that frequently offers better prices than the competition. Checking out ebooks from the library via the Libby app on a phone or tablet and then having them delivered to your Kindle is also fairly intuitive.

The base Kindle comes with double the base storage of the Kindle Paperwhite. If you have a huge ebook collection or like to listen to audiobooks on your Kindle, the 16 GB of storage in this model is a blessing. The Kindle Paperwhite comes with 8 GB; you have to pay more for 16 GB.

There's no practical reason to buy a $270 ebook reader, but the Oasis has a sleek aluminum design with a ridge on one edge and physical buttons to turn the pages. These make it ideal for one-handed reading. The light-up display also looks a little more natural and automatically adjusts the brightness.

The 2021 Paperwhites include a Kids Edition, which brings a bigger and sleeker screen, more lighting options, and IPX8 water resistance for the first time over the original Kindle Kids Edition. The rest of the features are pretty much the same as the new Kindle Paperwhite, except you'll get a year's subscription to Amazon Kids+, a kid-friendly content library with parental controls. (You can access the same platform across other Amazon devices, like Fire Tablets or Echo speakers.) It also comes with a case and a two-year no-questions-asked replacement guarantee. If your kid smashes it just once, you get your money back. If you're going to get your kid an entertainment device, an ebook reader that doesn't have access to social media is a safer choice. There is a web browser, but it's restricted by default (you can completely disable it too). There are 8- and 16-gigabyte storage options

But if you don't want another monthly subscription and don't want to continue giving your money to Amazon, take advantage of ebooks available with your library card. Browsing a digital catalog is not as magical as spending an afternoon looking over every shelf in a library, but such is the ebook life (no one says you can't read both!). We have a detailed how-to on this that you should check out, but here are some of the takeaways:

Branding consultants Michael Cronan and Karin Hibma devised the Kindle name. Lab126 asked them to name the product, and they suggested "kindle", meaning to light a fire.[9] They felt this was an apt metaphor for reading and intellectual excitement.[10]

Amazon released the Kindle for PC application in late 2009, available for Microsoft Windows systems.[170] This application allows ebooks from Amazon's store or personal ebooks to be read on a personal computer, with no Kindle device required.[171] Amazon released a Kindle for Mac app for Apple Macintosh & OS X systems in early 2010.[172] In June 2010, Amazon released the Amazon Kindle for Android. Soon after the Android release, versions for the Apple iOS (iPhone and iPad) and BlackBerry OS phones were available.[173] In January 2011, Amazon released Kindle for Windows Phone.[174] In July 2011, Kindle for HP TouchPad (running webOS) was released in the U.S. as a beta version.[175] In August 2011, Amazon released an HTML5-based webapp for supported web browsers called Kindle Cloud Reader.[176] In 2013, Amazon has expressed no interest in releasing a separate Kindle application for Linux systems; the Cloud Reader can be used on supported browsers in Linux.[177]

Hi, any idea why the (library book rental)Libby app on IPhone would only read titles, page number & menu options but not the book text itself?

Do I just have to bite the bullet & get a kindle?

Yes of course - in fact you could create an ebook of a summary of the best posts on a topic from many sites. However, it's best practice to always credit the original author with a link to the source and only quote a selection of another post, not the whole post (this technique is called curation).

Reach millions of readers and increase book sales by publishing your book on Amazon Kindle. Amazon is the largest online retailer in the world and the Kindle is by far the most popular eReader on the market. With eBook sales gaining year over year, direct publishing on the Kindle store simply makes sense for self-publishing authors. When you choose book publishing on Kindle through BookBaby, your physical book will be available for purchase on Amazon.com, and your ebook will be available on the Kindle eBook Reader, the Kindle Fire and dozens of other devices.

Great post Paul, thanks for that! Quite insightful.

I had a question, are you able to see your ebook to Amazon (after the KDP period expires) at the same time to iTunes? If not can you then re-format the ebook, so that internally context is different but with same illustrations/pictures? Hope thats clear.

Hello David! Thanks for putting this out there. listening to how this all works out sounds so very challenging! This sounds like a wonderful plan! I would like to learn more about how I can make this happen with your idea. I would love it if you could send me your ebook on Word to Kindle and Nook!

Also, actually writing an ebook can be difficult for some people. You need to create an outline to stay on track. And you need to get really clear about what is going to be in the ebook and what is left for other ebooks down the road. And, if you find that you want to judge while writing, talk it instead!

Thank you for this very helpful website. We are trying to get all our ducks in a row to publish our new book by May 2012. This process is a bit confusing and you have helped me a lot on this. I was dissapointed to see how much droid and apple apps are to create. This was going to be a critical step in jumping ahead. We have our blog and hitting 60,000 hits a month since Jan 2012 so I think we have a good base for our new book on relationships. Professor Thomas Nagle has been trying to get this book together for 15 years lol. Visit us on tipsforlove.net Thank you so much for writing this. What do you think? Is 60,000 hits a month on a blog good enough to publish? I have not paid for advertising but instead used facebook and twitter to market this idea?

Thank you kindly :From Tamra Lynn Smith

A very informative post, Thanks! I wanted to find out if there are any risks as far as licensing and copyrighting if one published an ebook on Amazon. I mean, is it possible that someone might purchase your ebook, copy it and have it published and copyrighted under their own name?

Paul, so much great information here like others said. I find out that even though I have paid WSOs and diff paid ebooks on amazon kindle publishing, I find out that this free guest post is enough for anyone to get started in the kindle publishing system.

From my experience of publishing two fiction books on kindle, actually writing them and publishing them was the easy part. Trying to publicise your work, get sales and push your books up the rankings is a very hard slog. Perhaps it may become easier the more books you publish because then it becomes a numbers game like having more chance of winning a prize the more entry tickets you buy.

For anyone contemplating self publishing, it is hard work but on the up side, very satisfying

I am based in California, USA. Setting up my business as a sole proprietor to start out with an EIN, DBA and business bank account linked to a merchant Paypal account. BUT what sort of licensing do I need to sell digital info products and ebooks?

Demonstrate expertise: Ebooks are an avenue to establish credibility and authority in your field. By showcasing your expertise, you can build greater trust with your audience.

Grow your platform: You can reach new customers and build your audience by publishing an ebook. Your readers may even share it with their colleagues, family, or friends.

Earn passive income: Once published, your ebook can be a source of additional income. In 2021, ebook revenue in the US was $1.1 billion, the same as the previous year. 2351a5e196
