However, what if you want to use an external storage device to back up your ebook library? Can you save Kindle books on a flash drive? What about other ebooks? We've got answers to your questions about storing your digital book library on a USB flash drive.

The simple answer is yes, you can! It's easy to transfer just about any kind of ebook file from cloud or hard drive storage to a USB drive. Whether it's the .azw or .mobi files that Kindle uses, ebooks from another service or non-proprietary formats like PDFs, a USB flash drive will hold your ebooks quite well.

However, many people also go farther and back up their ebook titles to an external drive. Why do this? First, lots of people simply like to have a physical backup location for their ebooks. It's a great feeling to know that you have your favorite titles backed up to stable and secure external storage!

In addition, if you don't like the idea of Amazon or another ebook company controlling your library, you might use your USB drive as offline storage. Note, however, that Amazon will have full control again if you load the books onto a Kindle that's connected to the internet and allow it to sync with your Amazon account.

Should you worry about storage space? Usually, the answer is no -- most ebooks take up only a few megabytes of space, so a standard 8 GB flash drive will hold many people's entire collections. However, if you've got an unusually large collection or ebooks with lots of HD images in them, check out some of the larger flash drive sizes that USB Memory Direct offers.

You're ready to move the files now, so select the files that you'd like to copy to your USB drive. If you downloaded the books from the cloud, they should be available in whatever folder you saved them to. (Use your computer's search function if you can't find it.)

Ebooks are hardly the only thing flash drives are good for storing. In our handy guides, USB Memory Direct shows you how a USB drive can store anything from cryptocurrency to a whole operating system! Then, browse our lineup of custom flash drives - including some awesome USB cards for those bibliophiles who want a new kind of "library card."

How do I locate the Kindle books I've downloaded to my hard drive in the Finder? There's no "My Kindle Content" folder I can find in ~/Documents, nothing I can find in Application Support, and nothing I can find with Spotlight Search when I search for the xxxx_EBOK file name.

I'm wondering if it's possible to backup one's purchased catalogue to a hard drive or thumb drive for storage purposes and then, years after (no matter how Amazon decides to change their kindle format extension) being able to read them as is, on my Kindle.

This is a pretty thorough question. First of all, Kindle file structure has evolved over time, so if we don't know your software and kindle's version it's quite hard to give you a more precise answer.

Whether you use an Amazon Kindle or run the Kindle app on a computer or mobile device, it can be hard to manage all the ebooks you have collected over the years. And if you have multiple eReaders or mobile devices, it can be a chore to manage all the devices you have connected to your account.

As you see in the image, I've purchased 6 books on Amazon, but all of them are on my Kindle Cloud, which is not safe. Now double-click on the book cover to download the books you want to back up to your local drive.

Now running the Epubor Ultimate, it will automatically scan your Kindle content folder, all you need to do is drag and drop all the DRM books to the main interface. You will see all kindle books are decrypted. It is so easy to remove DRM from Kindle books with Epubor Ultimate, right?

Third, after you have removed the DRM from all your Kindle books, you can right-click on the decrypted book and select "Explore Decrypted File" to find your cracked Kindle books. Alternatively, you can click on the output folder icon at the bottom right of Epubor Ultimate to locate them. You can then copy them to a new location on your computer or even back them up to Dropbox or a mobile hard drive for added safety.Next time, if you accidentally delete books from your Kindle, or Amazon removes your books from your account, you can always find all your purchased Kindle books in the backup folder.

This will be because of an incompatibility between Qt WebEngine, which theviewer uses to render and the GPU drivers on your system. First tryupgrading the GPU drivers. If that does not help, you can try turning offhardware acceleration in Qt WebEngine by setting the environment variableQTWEBENGINE_CHROMIUM_FLAGS to the value --disable-gpu.See Environment variables for how to change environment variables.

They are WONDERFUL if you have not heard of them...go to Amazon and check them out. Especially with the luggage situation with the airlines these days, I no longer need to pack all these books, magazines, etc. I have actually shopped and purchased books wirelessly at a drive thru window line waiting for a burger...they can hold up to 400 books and can use a memory card to hold and load even more!!! I LOVE this little darling and now can take all the books I want with me anywhere weighing less than 11oz!!! The fact that I could have my daily newspaper delivered onboard each morning would be WONDERFUL!!!!

@Tristan, good site and very informative.

what are the prospects of keeping a book @ say $0.00 for the purpose of an extensive free offering to readers.

@ success for indies, my advice is what i had experienced as a writer also. Never let your exterior packaging kill your great book , i mean just as Tristan stated, your book cover must be super; i had bad sales for my super books because i did not take it seriously until one of the amazon kindle best selling authors got me to use , they are real good and their packaging has sold more of my books in the stores, am approaching a best seller soon. Goodluck to indies

Clickbank and Amazon are very different animals. Kindle sells much more fiction than non-fiction. Novels are very hard to sell, especially long novels where people have no idea who you are. Small books spread over a greater amount of books tend to work much better. People seem to want a quick blast while they are at work for an hour/ or traveling home and then done.

Hi Tristan,

Great article. Thank you. I have 12 ebooks on kindle and this my first KDP select experiment with a free book. The 5 day period has almost expired with over 300 free .com downloads and over 60 .co.uk downloads. I wait with baited breath to see if people buy when the freeby time expires. I plan to trickle my other 11 books on the free book plan and will use your smart price of $7.99!

Will keep your readers posted.

What happened yesterday was different. I tried to move mobi ebooks to my kindle. The books were transferred fine, I can see them on my kindle drive on the computer. The problem was when I opened my Kindle to arrange the books I transferred, they weren't there. I tried reconnecting my kindle to the computer and the books are still there. I don't know what's wrong.

I don't know why these books aren't showing up, but an alternative method you might try is using the Send to Kindle app from Amazon. There are versions for PC and Mac that you can download at www.amazon.com/sendtokindle.

Edit: I just found a method that worked for me, move the "books" folder to a different location, restart the books app, maybe restart the kindle, eventually, all the old books will go away from the app's library. Then move the "books" folder back to where it belongs. I restarted the app and the kindle again and read a kindle store book for a while and when I went back to the library, all the mobis were there in the library.

For a frame of reference, the Kindle store clains to have over 950,000 books most of which are not as big as War and Peace (plus Kindle files are smaller than plain text files). So if I bought every book in the Kindle store (assuming no pictures), I could fit them on three 1 terabyte drives.

After we purchased some books from Kindle store, those titles will be saved in Kindle cloud. Then whenever we want to read our kindle contents, we can download them from the cloud to our kindle device or kindle app. But how to download Kindle books with easy steps? Why I failed to download the Kindle book for offline reading? Here is the ultimate guide to this topic.

1. This method can only help re-send Kindle books to our Kindle devices (Kindle e-ink or kindle tablets). It doesn't function for downloading books to Kindle app. From the screenshot image, you will notice that these options(export books from kindle apps) are grayed out.

As what I said above, Amazon stopped the downloading option in Kindle Cloud Reader since August, 2020. In other words, it's impossible to download books via kindle cloud reader. Please try above methods. e24fc04721
