The Kami home app seems on the surface to just be a clone of the Yi Home app but behind the scenes something has to be different because the app is so much faster. Streams load almost instantly. It doesn't even have time to show what percentage loaded it is before the stream displays.

To view details of the alarm, tap on the See Details button. This will open up a pop-up menu where you will have the option to view the video of motion-captured with other details such as time and type of alert. Also, users will see options to stop the alarm, set the camera to home mode, or send help.

Yi makes a number of inexpensive home security cameras; the Yi Kami indoor camera ($99.99) sits at the top of the company's lineup, with its higher image quality and ability to connect over 2.4- and 5-GHz Wi-Fi. Otherwise, the Yi Kami looks and mostly functions like the Yi Dome X ($59.99), and both can physically turn to track their subjects. Despite its sub-$100 price, though, the Kami doesn't live up to the best home security cameras.

Kami's 2-megapixel, 1/2.7-inch CMOS sensor and glass lens produce good video quality in daylight (with motion tracking on or off). Color, clarity, detail and exposure are significantly better than on the Yi Dome X and on a par with results from the Arlo Q, which we think is the best home security camera.

The Kami ($99) doesn't offer enough over the Dome X ($59.99) to make the Yi device a compelling purchase. What's more, given that its most significant feature, motion tracking, was problematic during my testing, I suggest getting either the Yi Dome X or the Ezviz C6CN when shopping for a sub-$100 motion-tracking camera. Otherwise, the Wyze Cam 1080p, which costs just $25, is a far better bargain for those looking for a budget home security camera.

Kami's equipment is affordable and has a great selection of security cameras, but it lacks basic smart home support and doesn't sell additional sensors outside its starter kit. It also doesn't match the backup monitoring capabilities of the best DIY security systems.

This is surprisingly similar to regular home security monitoring at first glance but lacks the cellular backup and battery backup that make traditional services worthwhile. This means you're out of luck if your power or internet goes out.

Kami's equipment is its biggest weakness for two reasons: equipment selection and availability. The sensor selection is as basic as it gets in home security with a base station, a motion sensor, and an entry sensor that monitors doors and windows.

For example, we couldn't find any information about smart home compatibility or the 24/7 Emergency Response service on the support website. After some digging, we found this information in the YI Community Hub, a forum for customers to ask questions.

Wyze also sells a couple of smart home devices that can work as part of its security system: a smart plug and a smart bulb. You can buy these separately or as part of the Wyze Smart Home Starter Pack.

Like Kami, Kangaroo Home Security offers basic home security equipment at affordable prices. But Kangaroo has Kami beat on monitoring prices. You do have to pay for a full year up front with Kangaroo, but the monitoring price works out to just over $8 per month.

Depending on your location and type of data, YI may process your personal information on servers that are not in your home country. If you are in the United States, YI processes your personal information only in the United States. If you are outside of the United States, YI processes your personal information in Germany and/or Singapore.

2. Term and Termination. The term of this Agreement will continue until this Agreement is terminated pursuant to this section. Kami Vision or Subscriber may terminate this Agreement for any reason or no reason following notice sent to the other as set forth in this section. Subscriber shall provide notice of termination to Kami Vision by emailing Kami Vision Customer Support at support@kamihome.com and following the instructions provided. Such notice by Subscriber shall be effective upon Kami Vision\'s receipt thereof. You understand that termination of these Services can potentially impact the ability of life saving services to be rendered and may require confirmation by Customer Service to confirm the legitimacy of any such request (e.g. the identity of the account holder, that the request for termination is authentic and not made under duress by any third parties, requested date for cancellation if it is in the future). You understand that Customer Service engagement is the best way to ensure the cancellation of potentially life saving services is handled properly.

Kami Vision shall provide notice of termination to Subscriber by e-mail sent to the email address on file with Kami Vision for your current Account. Kami Vision\'s termination shall be effective when Kami Vision sends the e-mail notice. Upon termination of the Agreement, Kami Vision shall have no further obligation to Subscriber and Subscriber shall have no further obligation to Kami Vision other than the obligation respecting the payment of any monies due to Kami Vision for services rendered. Kami Vision shall not refund any unearned service charges following any termination. There are no termination fees.

12.6 Compliance with laws. You also agree that federal, state or local ordinances or rules around handling of different types of alarms and requests for first responder dispatch may apply to your home security system and monitoring service. You understand that our ability to provide any Professional Monitoring Services will be subject to local rules and practices if you activate service in an area subject to any of these regulations and practices. For example, certain municipalities may require multiple alarms to be received or real time audio or visual confirmation of an alarm before they will dispatch first responders while other municipalities may require that alarms from certain life safety alarms such as CO alarms require calls to emergency response regardless if the occupants believe it to be a false alarm.

12.7 Alarm Permit Fees. In some jurisdictions, it may be necessary for you to obtain an alarm permit in order to have a security system installed in your home or business. If a permit is required, it will be your responsibility to obtain and maintain the permit, and to pay any fees associated with the permit. The fees for obtaining and renewing an alarm permit can vary depending on the jurisdiction in which you live or do business. These fees may be collected by the local government, and may be subject to change without notice. In the event that you fail to obtain or renew an alarm permit, you may be subject to fines or penalties imposed by the local government. Additionally, if your alarm system triggers a response from emergency services and it is determined that you do not have a valid permit, you may be responsible for any costs associated with the response. It is your responsibility to check with your local government to determine if an alarm permit is required in your area, and to obtain and maintain a valid permit as needed. By using our service, you agree to be responsible for obtaining and maintaining any required alarm permits and to pay any associated fees. 13. Communications Equipment and Services. The System is designed to transmit signals to a monitoring facility through certain communications equipment and services, including DSL, broadband, cellular, and/or wireless equipment and services (collectively, the "Communications Equipment and Services"). Regardless of the form of Communications Equipment and Services used, you understand that the Communications Equipment and Services may be interrupted, circumvented, unavailable (for a limited or extended time period) or otherwise compromised, including as a result of equipment designed or used by a third party for the purpose of causing false alarms or gaining unauthorized access to or otherwise affecting or controlling the Communications Equipment and Services or any Video-Related Services. If the Communications Equipment and Services are inoperative or interrupted by any cause, there will be no indication of such at the monitoring facility and the monitoring facility will not receive a signal from your system. You must test the System\'s data transmission with the monitoring facility at least monthly and immediately after the installation, modification or repair of any Communications Equipment or Service. You must confirm that the Communications Equipment and Services are compatible with the System, including when you make any changes to the Communications Equipment and Services. Your access to, and availability of the Mobile Apps is dependent on (i) your computer, mobile device, home wiring, home Wi-Fi network, Bluetooth connection, and other related equipment, (ii) your Internet service provider, and (iii) your mobile device carrier. You shall immediately repair (or caused to be repaired) any (i) problems with the Communications Equipment and Services; or (ii) problems with the System.
