The device should be displayed with a green checkmark under Status. The Last Contact column will also show "a few seconds ago" if the agent is actively communicating with the JumpCloud servers.

The agent manages local user accounts and has the ability to add, modify, and delete them. The agent can set passwords and update full name fields. When the agent checks in with the JumpCloud servers, it also looks for instructions from you, sets policies, reports event data about user logins, and runs commands.

New remote employees? No problem. You can enable remote installation of the JumpCloud agent from the User Portal, making it easy for new remote employees to install the agent on their work computers from home. See Enable Users to Install the Agent.

After following these steps, you can try to install the agent again using the installation application. If you continue to have issues, try to install the agent using the command line: Install or Reinstall the Agent with PowerShell.

I am testing with Google Chrome's Password Manager >> Use Windows Hello when filling passwords option. (chrome://password-manager/settings). Whenever the JumpCloud agent is installed, the resulting behavior is what I have just explained above. As soon as I remove the JumpCloud agent (delete device from admin portal) from the machine and reboot, I go into Google Chrome and try out same process (Use Windows Hello when filling passwords option turned on), and it does indeed default to my PIN method right away when the Windows security prompt comes up for auto-fill.

The JumpCloud Agent .EXE installer is being discontinued in favor of the JumpCloud Agent .MSI installer, which will be the only method available for downloading and installing the agent on Windows devices.

The JumpCloud agent is a piece of technology that facilitates connectivity between JumpCloud and your computer and keeps your IT administrators informed about your computer's health and status. Your IT admins can update your computer through the agent as needed to keep your computer running safely and smoothly.

If you experience any issues while installing the agent, contact your IT admin. They will be able to verify whether the agent is reporting successfully. You can also verify that the agent is running in Task Manager.

It will be soon! When we enable the checkbox to enroll all existing capable devices all devices enrolled via the agent will auto enroll into Windows MDM. Expect another community post when this comes out.

There is no end user facing experience for enabling this. Turing the toggle on silently enrolls existing agent managed devices into JumpCloud MDM. The net result is if an end user attempted to uninstall the JumpCloud agent via add/remove programs on an MDM enrolled devices the agent would be reinstalled automatically within 15 minutes by MDM.

After you install the JumpCloud agent on a Windows device, the agent silently installs the JumpCloud Windows App. Users on JumpCloud-managed Windows devices then see a new JumpCloud icon in the system tray. The Windows App creates a better experience for your users:

The Windows App is different from the JumpCloud agent. The agent is invisible to users and helps administrators secure and monitor the device. The Windows App doesn't require admin intervention and provides users with an icon in the system tray that acts as a gateway to all resources secured by JumpCloud.

I was wondering if JumpCloud has a zero-touch like experience for windows machines. Essentially, we are a fully remote company with users all across the world, so having a machine shipped to IT to setup and then ship to the user wouldn't be ideal. Providing steps to users to change user names, machine names and then binding their OKTA account and having them reboot is also quite of a task. I know there is no way to do it like DEP for macOS, but something a bit cleaner would be nice. Open to all ideas here!

Thanks @narbeh

The only option I've figured out until now to 'automatically' bind the user is by running a PS script using the JumpCloud PS-module.

I'm extracting the System ID and then look it up (set in a custom attribute on the user).

I wrote about it here a while ago. In the meantime I'm reading the System ID straight from the config of the agent instead querying the SN.

To do it automatically, there would need to be a 'lookup table' within JumpCloud itself.

The agent contacts JumpCloud's servers (see Agent Compatibility, System Requirements, and Impacts for a list of endpoints) using a long HTTPS poll in near real-time, but could take longer in some instances. If work is available, the agent downloads and executes the work request.

Updates are pushed to devices with an active agent. If the device is not active during the update cycle, the update will be queued and pushed to the device the next time it is active. The agent may not receive the update if a condition exists which causes the update to fail multiple times, in which case manual intervention may be required.

Note: If an unsupported device is assigned to the JumpCloud MDM server in Apple Business Manager (ABM), it will attempt to install the agent, which will generate an error and cause the device to hang at the install screen. The device will need to have the JumpCloud MDM server unassigned in ABM. This can be done by removing the JumpCloud MDM server from the Default Device Assignment under Device Management Settings or by changing the Device Management settings for the individual device.

The log file is present for every user on the device, whether or not the user is managed by JumpCloud, because the user-agent runs for each logged-in user. However, the agent will only install and manage certificates for managed users.

It worked out to remove it from application and trash. It however stays active in the activity monitor. Process group jumpcloud-user-agent (#). How can I remove this and completely delete jumpcloud? When I quit it, it appears again after few seconds in the activity monitor window.

If a device is active, all of these components are automatically removed for you. You can find the status of a device in the Admin Portal in the Devices list. Depending on the device status, the agent's components are uninstalled in the following ways:

Sorry to hear you are having some issues here with the JumpCloud Agent. Would love to try and assist and figure out what could be causing this. The "takeover" of a local windows account is contingent upon a few things.

First, you need to make sure that you have a local profile on the machine since that is what the JC agent manages. That means, that any Active Directory, Windows Live (Work or School Account), AzureAD profiles will not work properly. I do see often where a user is logged into a windows work or or school account, and this will cause there to be a password identity issue.

Second, we must be able to match either the JumpCloud Username or Local User Account. If you define a Local User Account in the JC admin portal for a user, the JC agent will look for that exact user account name on the machine. If it finds that user, it will takeover the account with the JC identity and start to manage that profile. If it does not find that user, it will create a new profile on the machine to match those credentials. It is an Either or statement. If there is no local account field defined, it will look for the username value.

The JumpCloud Agent is needed for the JumpCloud Directory-as-a-Service to function properly. It allows the service to communicate with the device, manage user access, and enforce security policies. Without the agent, the service would not be able to perform these tasks.

There are a few reasons why you might want to remove the JumpCloud Agent. If you no longer use the JumpCloud service, or if you are experiencing issues with the agent, you might want to remove it. You should be aware that removing the agent will prevent the JumpCloud service from managing the device. This could potentially lead to security risks if the device is not properly managed.

Description: Jumpcloud-agent.exe is not essential for the Windows OS and causes relatively few problems. Jumpcloud-agent.exe is located in a not unambiguous folder.

It runs as service jumpcloud-agent in the background. The service manages local user accounts and allows you to remotely control your systems.

The service can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The application uses ports to connect to or from a LAN or the Internet. Jumpcloud-agent.exe is not a Windows system file. The process has no file description. File is hidden. The program is not visible. There is no detailed description of this service.jumpcloud-agent.exe appears to be a compressed file. Therefore the technical security rating is 66% dangerous, but you should also take into account the user reviews.

Important: Some malware camouflages itself as jumpcloud-agent.exe. Therefore, you should check the jumpcloud-agent.exe process on your PC to see if it is a threat. We recommend Security Task Manager for verifying your computer's security. This was one of the Top Download Picks of The Washington Post and PC World.

A clean and tidy computer is the key requirement for avoiding problems with jumpcloud-agent. This means running a scan for malware, cleaning your hard drive using 1cleanmgr and 2sfc /scannow, 3uninstalling programs that you no longer need, checking for Autostart programs (using 4msconfig) and enabling Windows' 5Automatic Update. Always remember to perform periodic backups, or at least to set restore points. 2351a5e196
