Hello, all the roms I download seem to end up being GDI format rather than CDI format and Imgburn doesn't recognize them to make a copy. I am new to all of this so please bare with me, any advice or modern guides for dling iso's and burning them to a disc using imgburn or another means?

If you start the installer for it, you'll see that on the acceptance page, and if you upload imgburn 2.8.5.0 to you'll see that 8 of the AV products they currently use flag it has having malware installed. Here's one report:

Download Imgburn 32 Bit

I'm not even sure that's within the OpenCandy guidelines, and I sure don't like the way the imgburn installer is working (no obvious way to "opt out of the adware if you want to install imgburn, and I have no doubt that most users would even pay attention to the fine print on the first license agreement page that mentions Open Candy).

Sorry... I'm with the OP on this one. Even though I've been a fan of imgburn in the past, they're now on my s*** list. To use an installer with that kind of crap included by default, with no obvious way to "opt out" of installing it, is unethical IMO.

While what you say seems to make sense, I view it differently. I want to thank Manne for providing a public service by alerting the rest of the forum that a popular program has now started installing extensive bloatware, and those of us who tend to be lazy about reading the install should be on the lookout if we want to install imgburn.

Click on the comments section of this page, and note where someone using the imgburn portable 2.5.8 installer was notified of internet access by what appear to be conduit related programs, even though the poster says he opted out of all extras.

I downloaded imgburn which I heard is a great program for burning ISOs from disks, ran both Kaspersky and Malwarebytes scans of the installation file and both scans indicated clean. Then executed the installation. After being unpacked...Kaspersky flagged as malicious, deleted the program and rolled back due to the damage caused by the malware. Malwarebytes at the same time blocked several websites the malware was apparently attempting to open some backdoors.

The point is this...imgburn may be a good product, but many download sites pack it with all kinds of adware, trojans, malware and who knows what else. So be careful from where you download your programs.

Just for what it is worth, these imgburn download websites are all over the place..and i noticed the downloads are sometimes larger..sometimes smaller, depending on the website offering the download...the larger ones containing more malware. I have read the cleanest down load is on majorgeeks...but there is some sort of malware even in its download.

i play the vob files from the dvd after i burned it, they play fine but the dvd itself wont play from the menu. i use avs video comnverter to make my video_ts folder to burn it on img.since there is nothing wrong with the disc im sure its imgburn causing it to not play.looks like im going to have to just play everything from usb sticks now because im just wasting discs and money

the video_ts.ifo folder doesn't play from the dvd i burned from imgburn, but the video_ts.ifo folder does play from the folder that avs made from converting the video file.so this tells me it's imgburn at fault here

Still a good piece of software, except for the added ASK TOOLBAR!

The ASK tool bar INI file is set to 1 (yes please)as standard ,as if you and everyone would always give consent from the beginning without being asked.(which is nonsense behaviour of advertisers and all the other companies that want to mine data ,otherwise they would not get many people wanting their crap added extra's installed )

An easy way to bypass the ASK.com data miner from going anywhere !Just download 7zip and when it's installed (7zip) just right click the setupimg exe and choose 7-zip ,then choose extract to "setupimgburn"

Now this will extract the contents of the imgburn exe to a folder, now you can open that folder and start imiage burn just by clicking the imgburn exe.The programme will start straight up into image burn without you being bugged for installing the ASK toolbar data miner ,as this method bypasses all the guff .

You could also go into the same folder and into the $PLUGINSDIR folder and delete both the apnstub exe and the apntoolbarinstaller exe just to further prevent any trickery.

Simples !!!!!

Ok so i found out the function on how to set a destination folder for .iso's when creating them w/build mode. it won't stay fixed though. When I delete the file in the source window and drop another vts folder in Drop zone I have to manually hit delte to erase the name of the destination file/folder or else it'll put it in the same folder as b4, and imgburn pops up telling you that a .iso already exists there would yiu like to replace it. So is this destination setting a 1 time thing only? also if I delete the whole destination in the file box and hit build it'll put it inside the folder where the vts files are at. So basically having a destination folder set in tools settings isn't a fixed destination as in read mode. Afaik anyway. if I'm doing something wrong or need to do something else to have the .iso's keep going to the same destination folder in build mode please let me know. Thnx.

Here is the batch file I created to burn the files to the DVD media using the IMGBURN program.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

;create list of all titles

del /q file_list.txt

dir c:\backup /A:A /B /O:N > listtmp.txt

;add ; to end of name

set addtext=;

if exist tmpfile.txt del /q tmpfile.txt

for /f "delims=" %%l in (listtmp.txt) Do (

 echo %%l%addtext% >> file_list.txt

)

del /q listtmp.txt

;burn the files using imgburn program.

for /F "usebackq delims=;" %%I in (file_list.txt) do "C:\Program Files (x86)\ImgBurn\ImgBurn.exe" /MODE BUILD /SRC "C:\backup\%%I" /VOLUMELABEL "%%I" /DEST D: /WAITFORMEDIA /CLOSESUCCESS /EJECT YES /NOIMAGEDETAILS /VERIFY YES /FILESYSTEM "UDF" /START

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Note: You may need to change the file location of the ImgBurn.exe file.

"Copy or move the contents of $INSTDIR to a folder of your choice":

I just extracted using uniextract (2. try: 7zip, same result). There is no $INSTDIR, only $PLUGINSDIR, SOUNDS and files imgburn.exe, imgburnpreview.exe, readme.txt.

I suppose this altogether is equivalent to $INSTDIR ? At least it seems to work and afterwards the ini is 18KiB and it created dir "Log Files".

Suggest updating this, firstly when dl file extracted there is no temp, or uniblue folders, made .ini file and copied text to it. placed it into app. It then still placed folders in user/appdata/imgburn. God knows whats in the registry. no way this is stealth, at least not following the instructions.

i didn't test imgburn, but i think magibon is correct. apps running in xp 'behave' in a different way when running under win7 x64. under xp they may be portable or stealth, but under win7 that is not guaranteed.

Mmm.... duuno if someone is having the "crash issue"...

After the "installation" process (the ini file) imgburn opens and crashes within a second... someone knows why is that?.

Im gonna keep the old version in the meanwhile :S

I need clean my HDD and partitions but first did a recovery usb drive with the recovery tool, the recovery is one of Thinkpad E431 and was done right.

I cant rely only on a fragile usb drive to keep this copy and want keep a bkp on my external hdd as an bootable .iso file too.

The only software to windows i found to clone usb drives to bootable .iso that works was imgburn but you need put the path to etfsboot.com as "Boot image" to it work. My prolem is that the Lenovo tool doesnt create this file inside recovery and cant find a way to config imgburn to create my bootable bkp. 2351a5e196
