Thanks for existing !! I've browsed here before and found many great answers. Thanks.

So.. I was doing a low level format with the free HDDLLF 4.40

and the software crashed. When I rebooted, it said the drive was locked. *Not Windows or bios locked*

but I guess locked (hardware??) so you can't interrupt the format, now it's stuck there. HDDLLF says drive locked.

Is there anyway to unlock and reformat it? or is it bricked. It's a WD-1.5 TB Black 3.5 7200 rpm..

I can look up the exact model, when I get home.. if that helps.

Thanks

Don't want to buying yet another drive...

This would take about 9-10 hours to complete or more?

Have you tried re-running the software again ( yes I know HDDLLF says the drive is locked ) the reason I say this is that the software locks the drive when it does the LLF & then unlocks it when done which of cause this didn't happen due to the crash & reboot.

Location: torontoI just bought the software now because hey it's very reasonably priced.

Yes Re-Ran the HDD LLF, which is what told me the drive is locked.. couldn't go any further.

*So what I'm hearing from you loki is that LLF function on the drive locked the drive, not the software.

but How do I get LLF to release the lock on the drive? So I can re-run the HDD LLF.. hopefully successfully.

thanks

Ian

Location: UKTo try & replicate your issue I've downloaded HDDLLF 4.40 & run various tests running it on a WD1200BEVT.

I've unplugged the drive & also tried turning off the PC while running the LLF but each time all I had to do was go in to Disk Management & then initialise & format the drive to get it working again.

Maybe you could post a pic of the HDDLLF with the message?

If HDDLLF 4.40 doesn't allow to continue because the drive is locked then you might have to look at other ways

ie maybe ZU.exe ... db14e8c332

MHDD using a script -MHDD/

HDDUnlock

All the above have be mentioned lots in previous posts.

or using a data recovery pro locally who has tools to do this for you.

Location: torontoI did get the drive to work again, I rebooted.. and it was fine.

Thanks for researching this tho !!! I really appreciate it !

I think the trouble might be in the drive, as the program crashed again at 80% 11 hours later.

Is it because I'm using a Firewire dock? I was going to try esata connection next.

Just too lazy to open my computer and stuff the drive in.. and part of the reason I like HDDLLF is that

it works with external docks, the dock is

thanks

Location: New YorkHi,

Was recently told that HDD LLF Low Level Format Tool can be used to correct a corrupted Flash Drive MBR.

Checked -LLF-Low ... rmat-Tool/ "An option to quickly wipe partitions and MBR data is available."

Did not find any mention how to fix corrupted Flash Drives when checked docs

Also did a quick Google using "HDD LLF Low Level Format Tool correct flash mbr" but also found nothing.

Any suggestions or help appreciated!

Thanks

Matilda

Location: New YorkHi jermy,

"can you elaborate what "Corrupted Flash" means ?" Sure, my USB Flash Drive was originally 1GB but somehow got corrupted to register 8GB?

Will also mention that it is not a Fake Drive but was sold by a public library.

A friend took it apart and I have photos of the different chips if you or anyone else are interested.

Since posting I have found videos like "How To Low Level Format an Hard Disk / USB Flash Disk" =TbuE29Kb5uQ but they do not explain how to access the option to quickly wipe partitions and MBR data?

Also once the partition and MBR data is wiped , how do I insert the correct data?

Hope someone has either a Tutorial or Video how to do this but so far have not found either.

Maybe I have missed something but have not found any documentation for HDD LLF Low Level Format Tool?

if the drive is not working, any reason you wouldn't just buy a new one seeing as the drive is only 1GB? Flash drives cannot be trusted even if you manage to get it to look right. Also, any organisation that buys a lot of drives, such as the corporate or monogrammed ones, generally buy alcor based ones with refurbished chips. These drives are not the greatest quality at all.

if you don't need data, then the MS tool diskpart may be able to partition it. read up on how to use it.

basically, list the disks, select the disk, list partitions, delete all partitions, create partition primary, format. if it doesn't work, get a new flash drive.

"do you need the data from the drive? Any LLF will destroy data." No, nothing worth saving.

"if the drive is not working, any reason you wouldn't just buy a new one seeing as the drive is only 1GB?" Agree, which is why my friends and I now read the warranties very carefully. We would like to learn more how Flash Drives work.

"basically, list the disks, select the disk, list partitions, delete all partitions, create partition primary, format..."

To date we have spent quite a bit of time searching but have not found any tutorials or videos that explain the option to quickly wipe partitions and MBR data?

Can you tell us where the manual is for the HDD LLF Low Level Format Tool?

Thanks
