The Wi-Fi Alliance used the advertising slogan "The Standard for Wireless Fidelity" for a short time after the brand name was created,[29][31][32] and the Wi-Fi Alliance was also called the "Wireless Fidelity Alliance Inc." in some publications.[33] The name is often written as WiFi, Wifi, or wifi, but these are not approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance. IEEE is a separate, but related, organization and their website has stated "WiFi is a short name for Wireless Fidelity".[34][35]

The term was created by a marketing firm because the wireless industry was looking for a user-friendly name to refer to some not so user-friendly technology known as IEEE 802.11 and the name stuck. Wi-Fi, often referred to as WiFi, wifi, wi-fi or wi fi, is often thought to be short for Wireless Fidelity and the organization that paid for the marketing firm is sometimes referred to as the Wireless Fidelity Alliance Inc.

I one day had a brainstorm and wondered if it was an issue with the automatic channel switching at the wifi router....logged into router and set it to a set specific channel that had less traffic....BINGO no more network disconnect and actually better throughput in general!

My wife bought phaser 3020 two days ago. My wife and I installed it using the installation disk. The problem is the wifi connection after a few hours of idle is lost. (I mean I cannot print. also, on my printer list the printer appears as offline and also the printer-wps blue light (that should indicate wifi conncted) is missing even when pressing power button on printer). The current solution is just to shut down the printer and restart it. After that the wifi connection is established and we can print again. (allthough it still appears as offline in the printer list) .

Every eero comes with the latest in wifi encryption. And with eero Plus, you'll gain access to parental controls and active threat protection to help protect against ad trackers, malware, phishing, and viruses.

Ya, I feel like a real sucker paying for WiFi hotspot. It's fine for keeping up with email in the back ground, but if I want to visit any site that has video embedded, I have to turn off wifi and use my phone's cell service. Makes no sense since my phone uses the same provider as OnStar. I have called several times from my vehicle and they have never been able to get any improvement in in my hotspot. I'll get over 40Mb with my phone connected to cell network, but when I connect to my Cadillac hotspot it is less than 1Mb. I think someone should hold OnStar accountable for false advertising. They suggest better service with the hotspot because bigger antenna and better power (car battery/engine). It's a joke. I'm really sick and tired of them using "Multiple devices, location, and and overhead obstacles are all factors that can effect download speeds" as an excuse since the cell phone, shielded by the car roof, on its own blows the doors off the hotspot.

Is it possible for me to have a separate wifi network in my room specifically? My dad turns the wifi off at 9 and i need to stay up to get some work done but he just refuses. Is there anyway to have my own network? Using spectrum right now btw, thanks.

Self-promotion must be cleared with the mods beforehand and will only be allowed if the user is active on r/wifi helping other users. As a rule of thumb, for every self-promo post, the user should have made five submissions or responses to help others and that dont contain offboarding links.

OAK WiFi has live hotspots throughout the City; this initiative will greatly expand the coverage from West Oakland through Downtown and along the International Blvd corridor to the San Leandro border. The 13 wifi zones are located in East and West Oakland, Uptown and Downtown. These zones began to come online starting in mid-November 2020. Currently 12 of 13 zones are live and available to use - see map below. The remaining Zones will come online as they are completed. It is anticipated that all 13 zones will be online by the end of March 2021.

Special symbols in WiFi passwords

Another problem that I noticed is the use of the "@" symbol in your WiFi password. For some reason the Pi converts this to a " and thus your wifi log in will not be successful (wrong password). After putting in your SSID and password with something like Raspi-Config, go back and make sure that your @ (ASCII character) is in the correct place and has not been replace by something else. (I used Shift+" on my keyboard to replace the " with a @ but you may have to find a different way or just change your password to something without a @ in it).

Just wanted to drop a tip. Configuring WiFi country is outlined in when talking about editing the txt file in the boot folder, but is kind of glossed over when talking about configuring with keyboard+mouse+monitor. I've never had good luck getting my card reader to work with partitioned SD cards, so I always just plug a monitor in to my Pi's. This is my first board newer than a 3B, and I had no idea about having to configure wifi country. I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out. While sudo raspi-config'ing, wifi country is in the localization options.

1) These devices are brand new out of the box and they have problems connecting to a radius SSID out of the box. All devices purchased have the Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 wifi card and are all experiencing the same problem. We have had Radius for 12 years and haven't had a problem since these devices were purchased. 2351a5e196
