Some of you have been waiting for your breakthrough for years, months, weeks, days and wondering when it will happen. Some of you have been in and out of faith. You are all pumped up then suddenly get discouraged. You then say something that undoes your time of waiting and then you go back to point zero.

During my quiet time with Abba recently, I felt Him say to me that many of his daughters are getting weary waiting to see the manifestation of his promise to them. Some of you sadly want to give up just at the edge of your breakthrough.

Friend, are you desperately waiting for a breakthrough and wishing God would make things different? Perhaps you are praying for restoration. Do you have a loved one who has created a lot of chaos in your life? Maybe you are reaching for the hem of His garment for healing. You might be wrestling with a false accusation at work or wondering how you will manage to pay all the bills this month. Know this: You are not alone in the waiting. Your God sees you, and He will not stay silent.

Turning back the clock

There is already a significant body of research dedicated to how stem cells can be used to treat disease. For example, mesenchymal stem cells (usually taken from adult bone marrow) have been deployed to treat bone fractures or as treatments for autoimmune diseases. It is hoped that iPSCs could hold the key for many more treatments.

Unfortunately, even as the business cases for iPSC treatments increase, a certain degree of caution must be maintained. The promise of significant health benefits and new revenue streams has led some clinics to offer unproven stem cell treatments to individuals. There have been numerous reports of complications emerging, including the formation of a tumour following experimental stem cell treatment in one particular patient, as recorded in the Canadian Medical Association Journal last year. Such failures risk setting the field back years.

The internet of things is an excellent example of how numerous existing technologies have been brought together to create something bigger than the sum of its parts. Take, for example, the emergence of smart cities, which integrate connected technologies into the fabric of traditional municipal systems. The city of Las Vegas is a leader in this area, working with a consortium of companies to install data-gathering sensors, high-definition cameras and other networked devices throughout downtown to improve everything from traffic flow and pedestrian safety to waste collection and energy conservation. The sky is the limit for exactly how smart cities can become, as they imagine new tech-driven capabilities to make life better for citizens and visitors alike.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning have been building momentum in nearly every industry for years, and yet another new application is emerging in the area of airport security. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is already testing biometric screening and facial recognition. But what we saw at the Tokyo forum utilizes AI for baggage scanning to augment what human agents see and instantly identify potentially dangerous items. Currently, there is difficulty in keeping up with constantly evolving devices that could pose a threat for air travel. AI-equipped scanning systems would not only help to make air travel safer, but they could also help TSA operate more efficiently and shorten the dreaded security lines for passengers.

Jesus came to a people who were desperate for a breakthrough. They were suffering under horrible conditions. All the joy of living had been sapped out. In Jesus they saw the opening of a breakthrough for their lives.

Over the past four months, several low cost SLS printers have been announced, and since the new generation of SLS machines is in line with financial capabilities of small businesses, the new trend seems promising.

Given the fact that the main patents that prevented competition in the market for the most advanced 3-D printing technology - SLS - expired in February 2014, the hopes to see a similar effect have been high.

To break this knot, one of such outlier ideas is presented in this article, and its concept is proved by means of hardware-in-the-loop testing. The authors claim that by continuously monitoring RoCoF, frequency relays can be equipped with a very effective situational-awareness feature that contributes to a more accurate UFLS as a whole. Even though the concept can be applied to different frequency-control mechanisms of modern power systems, we will demonstrate a special use case in which a RoCoF-based function can operate alongside the conventional frequency-driven UFLS criterion and together form a fast and accurate power-balancing system-integrity protection. It might just be what both RoCoF and system operators have been waiting for.

"Red hydrogen" is produced with nuclear energy. Japan is a world leader in nuclear energy production, and both its energy and automotive sectors have made major investments in hydrogen over the years. Combining both of these technologies together in a breakthrough process, Japan is showing a promising way forward for clean energy production.

Tragically, the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011 caused many countries to rethink their use of nuclear energy, shutting down powerplants worldwide. In America, 26 of the 96 operational nuclear reactors have been decommissioned in the last decade. Japan closed down all its nuclear reactors and went back to burning coal, oil and natural gas to cover its energy gap. But it has been working hard to come up with a better solution - a new nuclear reactor that is incapable of a meltdown.

It could be another 5-10 years before there is a breakthrough with hybrid wheat. But if it works, hybrids could be a boost both for farmers and for seed companies. Farmers have to buy new hybrid seed each year, which would be a change for an industry in which many producers save part of the crop to replant.

There have been some successful uses of energy stored in the ground to heat homes and buildings, notably by the Cold Climate Housing Research Center in Fairbanks and the Anchorage-based Cook Inlet Housing Authority. Though different from the traditional geothermal energy associated with volcanoes or hot springs, those building-heating systems fall in the general geothermal category.

One of the hardest challenges of the Christian walk is waiting for God to answer our prayers when we urgently need Him to intervene in a circumstance that is breaking our heart, testing our faith, and robbing us of peace and joy. I have been on my knees many times with my Bible in hand, tearfully reminding God of His promises when my husband and I were in a financial crisis, a friend was stricken with a life-threatening disease, or one of my children was in trouble.

And for years, many of my prayers have been centered on my own need for a miracle. In 2017, after 20 years of pain, I had back surgery to un-pinch my spinal cord, replace deteriorated discs, and straighten my back. The surgery was the answer to my prayers in many ways. I am grateful every day that I can now walk without leg pain and do many of the things I love, like working in my garden, standing long enough to bake cookies with my granddaughter, and traveling to speak for World Vision. However, the trauma to the nerves in my back is taking much longer to heal, and I continue to cry out to God.

I love this, Alisa. It reminds me of an article about marriage saying how couples often give up during those barren seasons, but if they would simply keep trying and not give up they would see fruit. I have been there in both my relationship with God and others, and as hard as it is it is worth pressing on. Thank you for this!

It is an honor to write celebrating the 30th Anniversary of Breakthrough Manchester and offering a few thoughts on its founding in 1991. Although I have been away from Derryfield since 1994, I have followed with great interest the growth and success of this extraordinary program, and am enormously proud of what Breakthrough has become today and the lives it has impacted.

Have you been waiting a long time for a miracle? For a breakthrough in a relationship, healing from a disease, the gift of a child? You want God to move heaven and earth, and He can, but why is it taking Him so long, and what are we to do while we wait?

Astronomers have been waiting decades for the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope, which promises to peer farther into space than ever before. But if humans want to actually reach our nearest stellar neighbor, they will need to wait quite a bit longer: a probe sent to Alpha Centauri with a rocket would need roughly 80,000 years to make the trip. ff782bc1db
