Volleyball HomeAbout the Joan Cronan Volleyball CenterNamed for Tennessee's longtime women's athletic director, the Joan Cronan Volleyball Center was dedicated on Oct. 24, 2014. It is the first permanent home for Tennessee volleyball, which had previously shared practice space with the basketball and track and field programs.

The volleyball center houses three practice courts, locker and training room spaces, meeting rooms and a theater-style film room.

The offices for head coach Eve Rackham-Watt and her staff also are housed in the Joan Cronan Volleyball Center.

Named for B. Ray Thompson and retired University president Edward J. Boling, Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center is one of the largest on-campus arenas in the country and is located on the banks of the Tennessee River.

In 2008, the arena underwent an $18 million renovation, which included the addition of 32 luxury suites and a 166-seat loge area that provides a side-court view on the arena's north side. Also included in the renovations was the addition of a $3 million, center-hung scoreboard, all new black chairback seats and renovations to the continuous-ring concourse. Six concessions areas are located throughout the concourse, and 32 portals lead to the seating areas. From the playing level, tunnels provide access to team dressing rooms, media areas and storage rooms.

Prior to playing matches at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center, Tennessee competed at Stokely Athletics Center (1989; 1998-2007) and Alumni Gymnasium (1982-88; 1990-97). Stokely's largest volleyball crowd was 1,337 for a match against Florida on Oct. 22, 2004. Tennessee hosted the SEC Tournament four times before the event was discontinued after the 2005 season: 1981, 1984, 1999 and 2001. UT won the tournament at home in 1981 and 1984.

The site on Hoover Street between the Administration Building and the Intramural Building has been filled by the same structure since 1956. However, the inside of this facility has changed drastically since it was built in the 1950s. Formerly Matt Mann Pool and home of the Michigan swimming and diving teams, Cliff Keen Arena opened in the fall of 1989 after a year-long renovation project and is now the home for Michigan volleyball, wrestling and men's gymnastics.

The 1,800-seat arena gives every fan an excellent vantage point with its half-circle seating around the competition floor. Adding to the environment is a matrix graphics scoreboard and a concession area. Competing athletes have easy access to the adjacent athletic training, locker and meeting rooms. The media can take advantage of the arena's five-booth skybox overlooking the sideline action.

Cliff Keen Arena received improvements in the summer of 2002, including an expansion and renovation of the volleyball locker room. The locker room is outfitted with the latest in digital video filming and editing equipment. Volleyball also received a team room that gives the squad a place to call its own and includes a large study area.

The main volleyball arena is located in section 111.

Many additions in the past several years have been made to this space to make it more conducive to volleyball, including chair-back seating on the east side, bleacher seating on the west side, a new Teraflex Volleyball Court and soon to be completed HVAC system throughout the Matthaei Center. Just outside the main arena doors is the WSU Hall of Fame. Additional projects also recently completed for the volleyball program include a newly renovated locker room space and team film/meeting room.

Continued additions are still in the works to make the Matthaei one of the premier volleyball facilities in the region.

Built at a cost of $86 million, Neville Arena seats 2,000 fans for volleyball matches, bringing Tiger fans close to the action. The furthest seat in Neville Arena is just 43 feet away from the court. A full two-thirds of the seats in the facility are less than 27 feet in elevation from courtside.

It was then re-configured into the largest volleyball-only arena in time for the inaugural season in 1994. The Barn underwent a second significant face lift prior to the 2002 season to also become the home of University of Arkansas gymnastics.

The facility was remodeled in the summer of 2023 with a new design on the court to showcase the school's new rebranding. In addition to the new Flight Club signage for the student section led by The Hunt, the court features the new talon swipe design element and the new "Concordia" and "Golden Eagles" striping along the baselines.

Banners draped on the walls recognize the best Eagles teams to ever wear the uniform, including the 2003 & 2012 NAIA Men's Basketball National Champions and the 2012 Women's Volleyball and 2013 Men's Volleyball NAIA National Champions.

Directly over center court hangs CUI's featured four-sided scoreboard while two end-zone scoreboards are located on each wall. The court was refurbished in 2017 with the addition of the CUI logo at center court and two NCAA logos after the school completed the transition from NAIA to NCAA DII. The stands were also upgraded during the transition and multiple rows feature gold seat backs for VIP directly behind the team sidelines and scorer's table.

The Eagles Nest offers a privately enclosed viewing area through giant glass panes and houses special events throughout the school year. It is located at the mezzanine level next to the headquarters for CUI Athletics. Concessions are open and available during home athletics events, and located on the southeast portion of the facility on the second level. Home games are also video streamed free of charge. On the way to the concessions stand or the Eagles Nest, fans and alumni can take a trip down memory lane by checking out the timeline of CUI Athletics on the mezzanine floor, which features the trophy case. There are also mounted pictures of current CUI stars and championships teams from the past, in addition to the Kenneth A. Walker Hall of Fame.

The locker room facilities were also built in 1989 and renovated and expanded in 2007. CUI's men's and women's basketball, men's and women's volleyball and cheer/STUNT teams all have their own locker rooms, while multiple locker rooms are also reserved for officials and umpires.

Initially the home to Carolina's men's basketball and wrestling teams, Carmichael Arena is currently the home for volleyball, gymnastics, wrestling and women's basketball teams. Though the men's basketball team moved to the Dean E. Smith Center midway through the 1985-86 season, the other four sports have continued to call Carmichael home. Prior to moving to the Smith Center, the Tar Heel men's basketball team compiled an amazing 169-20 record at Carmichael Arena, including a perfect 5-0 during the first half of the 1985-86 season.

Carmichael Arena was the site of the 1987 U.S. Olympic Festival volleyball competition. On March 3, 2001, the first-ever MatJam, the wrestling championships for the Atlantic Coast, Colonial, and Southern conferences, was held at Carmichael. It has also been the host of NCAA Tournament games for both women's basketball and volleyball, as well as numerous North Carolina state high school championships in volleyball, girls' basketball, and wresting.
