The sync settings you choose are unique to each computer unless you're syncing everything everywhere. Also, if you're choosing folders on two computers and you create a new folder on computer A that you want to sync to computer B, you'll need to go to computer B and select the new folder there.

This article describes how to download the OneDrive sync app and sign in with your personal account, or work or school account, to get started syncing. If you use Microsoft 365 Apps for business, you can also sync files from your SharePoint sites. If you're not using Microsoft 365 Apps for business, see Sync SharePoint files with the OneDrive for Business sync app (Groove.exe).

On the This is your OneDrive folder screen, select Next to accept the default folder location for your OneDrive files. If you want to change the folder location, select Change location - this is the best time to make this change.

Any time you want to change the folders you sync on your computer, right-click that cloud icon in the taskbar notification area, and select Settings > Account > Choose folders. Find other information about your account and change other OneDrive settings from here.

On Windows 10, the Documents folder is syncing to OneDrive. This is perfect for my needs. However - several Windows apps stupidly place their database files in a subfolder under Documents, and I cannot change this action within the app.

I know you can exclude folders from sync - but this appears to exclude cloud folders from syncing locally, not vice versa. And it pops up a warning message that all local files will be deleted and the folder hidden from File Explorer. This would be disastrous for my local app which will be looking for those database files.

For instance, a textbook app will place the textbook files, bookmarks, etc under a new folder "My Books" in Documents. This syncs to all my computers, even though those computers have their own version of this same app. You'd think this would be great - I'd have synced bookmarks and textbooks automatically. But no - OneDrive recognizes the changes/discrepancies before the app has a chance to update itself and change the database files to match, and OneDrive spends time and bandwidth auto-generating multiple copies of the database files.

I have an issue with the company OneDrive creating not properly syncing renamed folders. If someone renames a folder, a brand new folder (with a new name) is created with the same content as the renamed folder.

I think my best bet at the moment would be to create a new site that will contain the updated directory structure and cut the old data from the old site, into the "renamed" folders on the new site. Gradually removing the old site.

@StarLordZA Yes that is a great idea, most of the time it is hard and time taking but it will give you good insight if there are any new changes to folder structures or renaming the folder names, etc.

Rename a folder in File Explorer of a Synced Sharepoint top level folder in a library. This rename creates a new folder with the same folder structures, but not a copy of the files into the new folder name. The new folder does not have any permissions set as the old folders had, just an inheritance of the library permissions.

I recently downloaded a very large amount of images for a Machine Learning project. OneDrive is going a little bit crazy about it and I would like it to "ignore" the folder. Ideally, the folder would be isolated from the rest of the synced folders from OneDrive perspective, but in the same directory on my computer.

I tried to navigate through OneDrive > Settings > Account > Choose folders, but as soon as I uncheck the folder, OneDrive says "If you confirm, the folder won't be available anymore on your computer, but only online" which is exactly what I wan't to avoid ...

N.B : I saw this post How to exclude a specific file or directory from OneDrive within the OneDrive folder structure but the solution doesn't work for folder (and I can't just specify the 200k files that i want to be isolated)

Here is a similar thread "Registry exclude folder for OneDrive", on thread "Reassess the possibility to ignore or exclude selected OneDrive folders and files from the sync process." on UserVoice forum, the OneDrive PM Manager said they are are looking to expanding such feature to folders in the future.

I suggest you go to OneDrive folder, then copy the specific folder to other location that won't be synced to OneDrive, then navigate through OneDrive > Settings > Account > Choose folders agian, then unsynchronize this folder.

Have you encountered the problem of being unable to sync a folder with Sharepoint using OneDrive? For me, one of the folders stopped syncing and disappeared from the list of synced folders.

After deleting the folder from the file explorer from the "Onedrive" directory, unfortunately it is not possible to add sync and the error "Sorry, we cannot sync this folder. You are already syncing the shortcut with the folder from this shared library"

The other Sharepoint directories are syncing properly so there is probably some junk somewhere on the system and remembers that one was syncing.

After you sync files or folders to OneDrive, the OneDrive icon in the taskbar notification area shows an "Up to date" status for files or folders that are fully synced. However, some or all of the files and folders in the OneDrive folder in File Explorer are still shown as "syncing." This article provides possible solutions that you can use to solve these issues.

This issue might occur if the UseFindFirstFileEnumeration Windows policy is set to True. This policy is designed for legacy file systems. It's not compatible with OneDrive Files on Demand. If this policy is set to True, File Explorer can't read the reparse tag on files and folders. Therefore, all files and folders are set to the default status of "syncing".

Zwift recommends not syncing any of the Zwift file folder, as it can cause complications with how Zwift reads and writes data, and a common troubleshooting step the provide via their support team is making sure Documents>Zwift is excluded from ANY sync programs, be it OneDrive, DropBox or anything else.

I know this is an old thread, but having the same issues. Pretty annoying that you have to disable syncing and jump through hoops to get this to work correctly. As Steve mentions, the documents folder is not the place for a program to write files to. It would be good if this can be looked into.

Putting your logs and other folders in My Documents is wrong, and proposing that I change the way all the gigabytes of data are synced to my OneDrive just to accommodate your incorrect programming is ridiculous.

Hi guys.

I have been using Dropbox for many years but my company started using OneDrive.

But, I would like to keep all documents in Dropbox to keep everything centralized and just one app on the phone. I've tried to direct OneDrive to a folder inside Dropbox but it turns out that there is always a file that Dropbox can't sync because it's always in use by OneDrive so Dropbox can't sync it. The file starts with ".849..." and it is a system and hidden file.

If by chance I stop the OneDrive service the file is synchronized but when I start again with OneDrive it gives me an error and I no longer have synchronization with OneDrive. I have already tried to ignore the synchronization file but without success with the command "Set-Content -Path 'D:\NunoViegas\Dropbox\OneDrive\Werfen\HLIT PT - General\.849C9593-D756-4E56-8D6E-42412F2A707B' -Stream com. dropbox.ignored -Value 1". Is not marking to ignore it.

Is there a way to skip this file? Or hidden and/or system files?

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks a lot.

Best regards

It's not recommended, at all, to place one service's sync folder inside that of another service. Conflicts like the one you're seeing are bound to happen, and such a configuration cannot be supported by Dropbox.

Depending on the size of the folder, it may take some time for all files to download. You can view your sync progress by clicking the OneDrive icon in your system tray, in the bottom right corner of your screen. From there, you can also click More to manage your sync settings.

Once they have downloaded, your files will appear in Finder in the left-hand panel under the folder "University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill." Files in this location that you edit will be updated in OneDrive, and new files you move to this location will be uploaded to OneDrive.

Microsoft's OneDrive is an excellent cloud backup service that lets you synchronize your folders and files from your PC so it's all automatically backed up and readily available. You'll need to set it up to make the most of it, though. This guide will show you how to sync files and folders to OneDrive.

Step 3: Click the files and folders you want synced to OneDrive. The folder and file I added to my OneDrive account from the previous section is shown as Work projects and Files not in a folder. Click OK.

You need to be connected to the internet for Microsoft OneDrive to work. As it's a cloud service, it will need constant access to your Wi-Fi or hotspot to operate. One of the reasons OneDrive is not syncing properly could be because you've just started up your system. Wait until it finishes the signing-in process.

Thank you so much for the prompt response. I was looking for something a bit more elegant. I just want to make sure that my folders are always in sync without having to manually run the command everytime. I suppose I could set up a cron job to run the command every so many minutes. ff782bc1db
