FlexNet Publisher (formerly known as FLEXlm) is a software license manager from Flexera Software which implements license management and is intended to be used in corporate environments to provide floating licenses to multiple end users of computer software.[citation needed]

Using FLEXlm License Management UtilitiesFLEXlm provides license management utilities that you can use to monitor the license manager. These utilities are available at the command line or through a graphical user interface.

Using the lmutil CommandThe lmutil command, available in the $MATLAB\flexlm folder, provides access to all the FLEXlm license management utilities. To view a list of all the capabilities of the lmutil.exe utility, open a Command Prompt window, go to the $MATLAB\flexlm folder and type

For example, to view the current status of the license manager, open a DOS command prompt window and enter the lmutil command, specifying the name of the lmstat utility. The example uses the -a option to get a verbose listing of available licenses and the -c option to specify the location of the License File to use. You must specify the -c option with every tool invoked through lmutil.exe.

FlexLM (now known as "FlexNet Publisher") is a technology that software publishers can use in the software they develop to manage and control concurrent user access to their products. If your organization develops software, you may be using FlexNet Publisher for that purpose. Or if your organization uses software that contains FlexNet Publisher technology, you may be using a "flexlm" command line tool that performs various administration operations on license servers such as starting and stopping license servers, checking server status, accessing concurrent usage logs, or updating license details.

FLEXnet packages all their license management utilities in a singleexecutable called lmutil.exe. The MathWorks Installer includesthis utility in every server installation in the matlabroot\flexlm folder. To view a list of all the capabilities of the lmutil utility, open a Command Prompt window, go to the matlabroot\flexlm folderand type

The following table lists the names of the most useful tools availablethrough lmutil. For more detailed information, see the FLEXnetLicensing End User Manual, included in PDF format in your MATLABinstallation (matlabroot\flexlm\enduser.pdf).For information about accessing these tools through a graphical user interface, see Using the FLEXnet Utilities Graphical User Interface (LMTOOLS).

Make the license manager daemon reread the License File and start anynew vendor daemons.

Note: When you use lmreread toreprocess a License File for a user-based license, changes to INCLUDE statementsin the associated FLEXnet options file take affect after a 15 minute delay.

Before installing License Manager on a UNIX machine, mount a directory from where the license file is visible. This directory can reside on any machine as long as it is mounted so that it is visible to the license server and all host machines of Genesys products that need licensing. If the directory is not mounted, make sure that a copy of the license data file is saved on each host machine that runs Genesys products that require licensing.

In the licensing/license_manager directory on the CD, locate the installation specific to your environment.

Although organizations may have a mix of individual and network licenses, network licenses must be managed by a network license manager. The network license manager takes care of managing license resources. You can install and run the network license manager on a dedicated license server or on the cloud, depending on your MATLAB configuration. If you are installing on a license server, verify that your license server meets the MATLAB License Manager Requirements.

A site has two license servers, one serves 100 Nastran licenses provided byFlexNet and the other serves 50 Matlab licenses from Reprise LicenseManagement. The site has two clusters named "fluid" and "pdf" dedicated to runsimulation jobs using both products. The managers want to split the number ofNastran licenses equally between clusters, but assign 70% of the Matlablicenses to cluster "pdf" and the remaining 30% to cluster "fluid".

For some reason after installing 17.4 using the MAC license, that license manager is set up to run after reboot which I don't want. I have to use the FlexLM tools to shut it off to activate the dongle based license.

 Louie,

Not sure whether this answers your questions, but I do have a process setup for a client of mine where I use MRTG to connect to the flexlm server and it graphs the stats automatically.

This is a potential article on my Web site one day, so I won't post details right now. But if you have any questions, please send me an email and I'll give you the gist of what I've done.

For floating licenses, twoFLEXlm daemons work in conjunction: the FLEXlm license managerdaemon ( lmgrd) and at least one vendor daemon. Both daemons run on thelicense server, but function differently. The lmgrd daemon is standardfor all installations, while the vendor daemon is customized by the vendor(PTC) to manage license usage.

Once the new binary for the license manager launches, the system may still display the above error message twice. However, the license manager administers available licenses correctly.Solution:

This page is mainly for Pixyz users and/or IT who are new to FLEXnet Server and set it up for the first time. Flexnet server is a floating license manager server that will allow a wide range of Pixyz users access a license within the company network.

Here's how I've figured out licensing works with the program IDL. You can put a newer version of the license.dat fileon the users computer and it will work as long as the person has a version equal to or less than the version running ontheir system. The licenses are backwards compatible. When you have a licensing server that the clients connect to you needto have the same license file you put on the users computer on there. Each release of IDL comes with a new version of theflexlm license manager. If your going to use a newer version of IDL and you get your newer license then you have to installthe newest flexlm license manager. The newest version of IDL aways needs the newest version of the license manager (flexlm).

A license service automates the installation of a license manager to help customers accelerate their engineering design. License management is integrated into Azure Modeling and Simulation Workbench flows via FLEXlm, which is the most commonly used license manager.

With the change over to the Sentinel license manager there is no way of kicking users off a license if the 'forget' to release it (after a pre-determined idle time), as there was with the old Flex License Manager. Hence ...

However, if the services are having issues connecting with network license manager, the status of the pods is still shown as Running. This is expected, and it means that the MATLAB Online Server is running successfully but is not authorized because it is unable to connect to the network license manager.NAME READY STATUS RESTARTS AGEyour-namespace-authnz-7994c9866d-675fb 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-core-ui-cfdcccc4c-5bhrc 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-gateway-88ffd446d-mbf2l 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-gateway-proxy-6f85db9cbb-8ftbr 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-gateway-proxy-6f85db9cbb-mdhr7 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-ingress-nginx-controller-7fdcd49d74-bnbls 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-license-5cc85b97cd-zg4vd 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-matlab-pool-9cc6b6465-9rdz8 2/2 Running 0 10myour-namespace-matlab-pool-9cc6b6465-t7wp2 2/2 Running 0 10myour-namespace-matlab-pool-helpsearch-8479fbdc88-4r6sd 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-matlab-pool-ui-8484bbbd4d-t6777 1/1 Running 0 10myour-namespace-resource-78f9b97745-fzwlq 1/1 Running 0 10m

If you installed MATLAB Online Server and the network license manager server on the same machine, license checkouts from MATLAB or MATLAB Online Server cluster might be blocked because the firewall prevents access to the license server ports.

One workaround is to modify the firewall to enable access to the network license manager ports. By default, the network license manager listens on ports 27000 and 27001. For example, to enable these ports in Ubuntu, use this command: e24fc04721
