Hi All! Just switched from Roon+Qobuz to Plexamp+Tidal and trying to figure out how to play anything above 44/16 quality from Tidal. I have the Tidal Hifi Plus plan and whenever I go to a track I know is Hi-Res Plexamp only reads it as 44/16. When I play my own music files that are hi-res it has no problem doing that. My DAC has a read out of what it's getting, that's how I'm checking what's coming across. I know when the only hi-res music from Tidal was MQA that Plex didn't support it because plexamp doesn't do MQA but now that there's hi-res flac available I would imagine it should work. Anyone have luck getting this working?

What I'm trying to do is now convert that .wav to a .flac. I've seen a few ways to do this which all involve installing a converter and placing it in my environmental PATH and calling it via os.system.

Note : my question is specifically about flac encoding, I don't think it should be marked as a duplicate of question How do I rip audio from a DVD?.Moreover the answers of the previous question are not really relevant in my case.

If you don't mind transcoding to mp3, Subsonic might work well. It's a server-client based system but it would be accessible from anywhere. The are Android and iOS apps, plus it has a web interface as well. To use the apps you'll need the Premium service which sadly went to a monthly fee ($1/mo). If you're transcoding flac, you probably want to add the flac decoder as I believe there were problems using ffmpeg in the past

Streaming flacs will take probably ~3x's the bandwidth of streaming a normal sized mp3 (and it's arguable that most people can't tell the difference between a high quality mp3 and flac - especially on the so-so quality coming from most mobile devices). Not a lot of programs support flac streaming but I believe squeezebox does (although I don't think that it is maintained or supported anymore). You could install the server on unraid and find apps for your devices that work. This would provide a nicer interface than setting up a network share to unRaid from each device and downloading the files to your your device to play locally.

I'd like to run FLAC using a batch file in particular I need to run FLAC data files using the command "call".However, if I call FLAC from the prompt manually by actually typing FLAC I can do it. If I run FLAC from a *.bat file I cannot. Please see the two pictures attached which refer to the call of the command HELP from *.bat file and manual typing.

- Firstly validate the source of the files. Can you be sure that the 24/96 file was not just upsampled from 16/44.1 in the first place? More likely, was the recording done at 24/88.2 and then both of your files were resampled from that master? It's hard to be sure you have really good files. Try the Linn and L2 samplers also.

I am impressed that you can hear any difference when running the toslink output from the Mac to the DL-III. I have a (highly modded) DL-III, and the performance via the optical input from a highly jittered source (the Mac) is pretty poor. Unfortunately I think you will need a better computer interface to really hear the performance the DL-III is capable of: something like a Weiss Firewire interface, or Wavelength Audios' forthcoming async USB to SPDIF interface will give much better performance with the DL-III.

I can hear big difference between 24/96 and 16/44.1 files from Linn Records. I'm using Cplay + ASIO4ALL, Benchmark DAC1 PRE (USB connection). I have optimized the PC so that ASIO buffer can set to minimum 64 samples and it absolutely no click. I even stopped my windows desktop when I play music. I use notebook power by battery which is lower noise than desktop PC. I have also use the TOD2 USB cable to stop noise from PC entering my DAC.

All of these effect the results of listening tests, plus many more issues not mentioned. I'm not sure if you are a Stone Temple Pilots or Metallica fan but both have DVD-A disc that can be ripped to high resolution files. Both high resolution albums are clearly better than the CD versions and it's very obvious from the first few seconds of playback. I often recommend these two albums to people looking to hear a difference between standard CD resolution and high resolution. It's popular music and it sounds great.

PS The Naim story might sound absurd at first, but I recently sent them an e-mail about an issue I had with a file I bought from them and their answer was even more absurd. So, to me at least, crippling the lower resolution files by means of lesser mastering in order to make you pay more for the higher resolution, is quite believable.

Hello,

Trying to use this wonderful program to edit a album folder of flacs where all the other files successfully saved the changes to the metadata except for one file and I cannot understand why. The program just hangs and I have to force close it. If a moderator or developer would like access to the file, I'll be happy to share it. Thanks.

Ok thanks for the reply. Using the file integrity tool, it says there is a MD5 mismatch.

I started looking into it and said the cause was a poor encoder, funny as how I purchased the flac from a site. What is the best way to send you the file without uploading a public link?

To use it you only need to open the *.cue file with Flacon. It should then automatically detect the big *.flac file (if not, you can specify this manually), and then you should select Flac output format (and optionally configure the encoder), and start the conversion process.

split2flac splits one big APE/FLAC/TTA/WV/WAV audio image (or a collection of such files, recursively) with CUE sheet into FLAC/M4A/MP3/OGG_VORBIS/WAV tracks with tagging, renaming, charset conversion of cue sheet, album cover images. It also uses configuration file, so no need to pass a lot of arguments every time, only an input file. Should work in any POSIX-compliant shell.

A degenerate polymerase chain reaction (PCR) primer pair (f-ClflaC/r-ClflaC) was constructed in silico to amplify flaC and its adjacent genetic loci from Campylobacter lari isolates. Approximately 1.45 kbp amplicons, including the sequences encoding the flaC structural gene of 750 bp, putative promoter, rho-independent intrinsic terminator regions and partial sequences of two putative open reading frames (ORFs), immediately upstream and downstream of the gene, were identified in 16 C. lari isolates (four urease-negative [UN] C. lari; 12 urease-positive thermophilic campylobacters [UPTC)]). All 16 flaC structural genes commenced with an ATG start codon and terminated with a TAA stop codon and probable ribosome-binding sites were identified in all 16 isolates. These probably indicate a monocistronic operon structure for the flaC gene in C. lari isolates. In addition, the putative flaC gene ORFs were deduced to be similar in 747 bp among all 26 thermophilic Campylobacter isolates examined, resulting in a similar calculated molecular weight of approximately 26.6-26.9 kDa. The flaC from C. lari was different from the flaA-like sequence and the shorter flaA of UPTC isolates found previously. Reverse transcription PCR and Northern blot hybridisation analyses identified flaC transcription in C. lari cells. The transcription initiation site for the flaC gene was also determined by primer extension analysis. A dendrogram constructed, based on the nucleotide sequence information of flaC from 17 C. lari isolates, demonstrated that the C. lari isolates were genetically variable and formed two minor clusters for UN C. lari and UPTC.

Do I have to enable something in order to allow for the import of FLAC files? Curiously, I can select FLAC from the dropdown list in 'Export Audio Mixdown and save the file as FLAC. When I try to import this file, however, nothing happens. Not even an error message. Cubase acts as if I have select nothing for import.

I have requested assistance from Steinberg tech support. The automated reply said that it might take up to 48 hours to receive online support. I will update here when i receive this. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved and I can post the fix here, in case anybody else suffers the same fate as me.

Mosaic uses the Tidal API so there is no difficulty with using the service at least at a basic level. The arising issue cones from their partial abandonment of MQA and the addition to their catalogue of FLAC titles. As far as I understand things ( which may be incorrect) this has resulted in a service ( Max) whereby the user can choose the format for titles that exist in both MQA or FLAC editions.

I understand from past postings that the existing Tidal API ( or Mosaic version) requires amendment so that this choice becomes available. dCS have posted that they are aware of this and that work either has been carried out or continues to be carried out. No doubt this will inevitably result in a further revision to Mosaic. However we do not know the current status of this work nor in regard to any other revisions that may be in mind. dCS do not pre-announce revisions nor the release date of a new Mosaic version.

Great news for the bat subscribers. As I cannot complain about Redbook, this for the paranoids maybe. Still would like to meet one who could tell hi-res from standard res in a proper blind test with 98+ % precision

I own a Toyota Yaris III Gen (EU, 2019, Hybrid) that is equipped with TAS500 multimedia unit (with Android Auto, Apple Car Play etc.). It comes with dedicated USB port where you can connect your phone but also external media. So yesterday i tried plugging in an USB with some music there, to play it from the basic multimedia interface (not my phone) and there is an issue.

If it were legal, I would post a link to a 24-bit rip of my CSN 2009 vinyl remaster of their first album, so you could perhaps hear the difference, but this argument is not worth getting a knock on the door from the FBI 17dc91bb1f
