To set this up, you need to get the patchv380 linux executable from the github link above. At the bottom of the readme he has a link to his blog post where he describes the update process in more detail, if you are interested. The create two files: exshell_bfu.sh and exshell_afu.sh.

Hi there. I just made an account here because i just purchase one of this v380 camera. I wonder if there is a mean to disable the auto night mode so it always shows color. I already tried taking off 2 wires inside. The one for ir led and the one for the lens filter. But it still get black and white whenever it senses lack of light. Which i think the sensor is too sensitive. Its not even dark in my room and still it switches to night mode. I really want to disable it. Can anybody here help me? Thank you.

And oh yeah, in the v380 app there are no settings or no option to manually disable night mode. And this is my firmware version.

So I purchased a $10 v380 Wifi camera to mess with (I think it's this exact one), and not too long after that I broke the firmware. Reflashing the flash with an original firmware from another camera (i had to buy another camera) did not work and it kept having problems with the startup script. So now I want to just modify the firmware directly and make it run my own programs.

The first thing I thought was maybe I could start from scratch and compile my own firmware using buildroot, but because the SoC seems very closed and proprietary, I could not find any documentation or data sheet for it and combined with the fact that I have never done this before made me rethink that option, so i thought maybe I can just modify the original firmware.

So how can I do this? I tried using "binwalk -e" to extract the files but it just dumped a bunch of files and I have no idea how to modify and put it back to a firmware file. The boot logs does show what i think is a Partition map of the flash, but I'm not sure what to do with it. It does seem to vaguely match the binwalk result.

Any advice on what I can do and whether this is possible? Maybe there is a good tutorial for this kind of thing? I have a decent knowledge of Linux. But not too much in this area with embedded software, like compiling programs, and modifying firmware like this.

This is actually the first time I got to a root shell on this camera, so this is very exciting. Previously, every time I want to run a command I had to put them in a script and generate an update patch file that I can put into an sdcard on the camera and that would run an update script that would run my script and commands. I think now the last steps are to figure out how to cross-compile the programs I want to use and put them in the firmware.

My point is: I have seen the reviews online and they say that the camera is good, but after the last firmware update, the manufacturer removed all functionality for self hosting (like using ispy) and now is all set to "their cloud". I want to downgrade the firmware so that I can use iSpy with it.

Use patchv380, copy the patch to /sdcard/updatepatch/ and alter the patchmd5 in local_update.conf. Then boot up the camera. The sleep 30 is there so that you have time to unplug the camera before it runs post-update code (probably not harmful either way).

I extracted the hardware flasher cp /sbin/updater /mnt/sdcard/updater and loaded it into Ghidra to see how firmware updates work.Updating the kernel, nand, serial number, LOGO (not sure what that is) and mac address use ioctl magic, whereas updating the MTDs looks simpler.

It is also recommended to keep your camera's firmware up to date to ensure it has the latest security patches. Check the manufacturer's website for updates and follow the instructions to install them.

It is also important to regularly update your password and avoid using common or easily guessable passwords. Additionally, make sure to keep your V380 app and camera firmware up to date to ensure the latest security patches are installed. By taking these steps, you can help protect your smart WiFi camera LAN V380 from potential security threats.

In today's digital age, it is crucial to take cybersecurity seriously. By following these simple steps, you can ensure that your smart wifi camera lan v380 is secure and protected from potential threats.

It is recommended to use a strong and unique password for your smart wifi camera LAN V380 and to change it regularly. Additionally, it is important to keep your app and firmware up to date to ensure the security of your camera.

The the volume and clarity of my voice coming through the came is not working well. The sound is garbled and an muted. Anyone wlse having this issue. Any suggestions. Could it be a firmware issue or perhaps a defective unit?

How have others found updating firmware on these Tapo cameras as looking at the forum this seems to be a theme and the blame by support always seem to be external factors like thunder and power outages. To me this seems like a flaw with the camera not being able to recover if the network is lost, but I'm just guessing here no clear proof.

Sorry to hear about the experience, most of the time a firmware update through Wi-Fi or wired connection should be fine, but considering the incidents with your previous cameras, you could a manual update for the Tapo C310 replacement unit. Feel free to let me know if you need further help.

Can I just say your returns/replacement process is shambolic and extremely slow.

I had a Tapo camera that stopped working after a firmware update after many messages backwards and forwards (mostly me chasing) I have finally received the replacement in the post......but it's the wrong camera (a cheaper one) and TP-Link are so far refusing to send the correct one until I post the wrongly delivered one back in the post. TP-Link are basically holding my camera to ransom. 006ab0faaa
