My personal take agrees mostly with this narrative. Curse is a great adventure movie with an excellent script and performances. On Stranger Tides and Dead Men Tell No Tales have nothing to say or add creatively (nor in worldbuilding nor in action or story) except to rehash old concepts and jokes. Worse, they are very boring and lack emotional weight of any kind which was a staple of the Verbinski films. So yes, I agree once again with the public that 4 and 5 are indeed trash movies. At World's End, movie 3 is much better than what came later, but the problem is it is a movie that aims too high. It wants to have an elaborated scheming plot, it also wants to set up an epic grand battle between pirates and the East India Company and finally it wants to craft a proper conclusion to the trilogy. As a result it fails to meet its targets and results in a glorious mess of a movie.
