ES File Explorer is a great tool for managing files and programs. It comes with many additional features, such as a tool for killing running applications, direct cloud drive storage (via Dropbox, Google Drive, or Skydrive), and an FTP client to use on your mobile device and your PC.

When working with your files, you will have the classic options you are accustomed to on desktop computers, such as copy, paste, cut, create, delete, and rename. But, you can also send files to anybody via email.

There are lots of alternatives to ES File Explorer if you're looking for the best file explorer app. Some of these include Google Files, CX File Explorer, FX File Explorer, and File Manager by Xiaomi.

When File Explorer opens, you'll land in Quick access. Your frequently used folders and recently used files are listed there, so you won't have to dig through a series of folders to find them. Pin your favorite folders to Quick access to keep them close at hand. For more info, see Pin, remove, and customize in Quick access.

Now, you can use apps to share files and photos right from File Explorer. Select the files you want to share, go to the Share tab, select the Share  button, and then choose an app. For more info on sharing options, see Share files in File Explorer.

I am using Windows 10 and have today found that I cannot access any local dropbox files on my computer using File Explorer. I can access them via the DropBox online site and through the icon on the taskbar. I have unsynced the two storage areas and then resynced them. I have downloaded the DropBox desktop again and still have problems. When I navigate through the DropBox folders on the pc, as soon as I select a folder the blue circle of "waiting for god" runs and then eventually drops out!

I can fully access al the DropBox files through the taskbar icon. When I use File Manager for the C: or drives all is OK. As soom as I select the dropbox files from within the File manager - it all goes on hold & - it hangs forever! eventually dropping out.

Thanks -I have now deleted the app, gone through all the potential locations as per your link. Downloaded and reloaded version 98.4.158 and I can access all the files through DropBox but eventhough I can see the folders in File Manager - I cannot access them - it just hangs again! It works on my laptop OK but on this PC - Grrrrr!

This is seemingly random; some files created at the same time appear and some do not. For example file-1 and file-4 show in explorer, but file-2 and file-3 do not. All created at around the same time, on the same computer.

Hi Richard, can you please launch your Dropbox folder, and check if the files are there? Please click the Dropbox icon in your windows tray, then click the folder icon, it will take you to the Dropbox folder. Do you see the files there?

No idea why, or how this could have happened. I was working on several files at the same time, yet only some saved as hidden, and I definitely didn't intend for anything to be hidden, so now I have to figure out what on earth was going on.

Whoa, I just opened one of my recent Excel files that I had saved to one of the affected folders, and followed it's path. Somehow, the files were moved from the original "Dropbox/Docs/Business Records" to "Dropbox/Documents/Videos"!

Preview Pane is an existing feature in the Windows File Explorer which allows you to see a preview of the file's contents in the view's reading pane. PowerToys adds multiple extensions: Markdown, SVG, PDF, G-code and QOI. In addition to those, PowerToys also adds support for source code files for more than 150 file extensions.

What happened? Almost all my files and folders have their root on the Desktop. I was trying to cut & paste a few image files that I downloaded to a work folder. But for some reason, the files app basically did a "select all" and then I unknowingly cut & pasted all files on my desktop into that particular folder.

But the cut & paste operation failed. I think because I tried to copy & paste a folder into a folder with the same name. So midway of cutting & pasting, it failed. Well... Here is how Files App cuts and pastes: It DELETES all files, then moves them. So if something goes wrong in the middle of it, CTRL+Z/undo only recovers the files that were successfully moved. So, since I still had like 50% of all my files pending to be moved, the files app basically deleted a LARGE CHUNK of all my files on my laptop. I literally only got lucky that my most crucial files managed to get pasted successfully before the cut & paste failure.

This is such a common sense scenario yet it's not tested. I reported this on GitHub and the main author asked " I meant what's the behavior in File Explorer if you cut, paste and then undo?", seriously implying that the dev doesn't know that the normal file explorer doesn't swallow your files whole. I can't believe that he/she/they never considered that you shouldn't just force delete all files BEFORE successfully having moved all of them. What the actual F. Imagine you had a cut & paste failure after file #2 with 10000 files pending. ALL 10000 files would be gone forever.

Imagine you have a Binance account, you send money from your wallet to let's say a Binance investment fund, but while moving, Binance had a bug... AND THE MONEY IS GONE FOREVER. That is the level of idiocracy of this app. This app has no quality assurance whatsoever. I worked in tech for nearly 10 years. This isn't even an edge-case scenario. Basically, the Files App has no fallback to recover files during cut & paste. Ridiculous. Thanks for deleting a gigantic pile of my files.

Previews for all Affinity app files (V1 and V2 files) recently stopped being displayed in the Windows File Explorer preview pane. File previews used to display. When File Explorer view mode is set to icons, the file thumbnails do display, but still nothing in the preview pane. Anybody have an idea what the issue may be?

I can confirm that I was able to replicate this behaviour after uninstalling V1 - however I then restarted my PC and following this thumbnails were displayed in Explorer for both previously saved V2 files and newly crated ones, without V1 installed.

Unfortunately not. I uninstalled Affinity Photo V1 (the only remaining V1 app installed on my computer), restarted my computer (Start menu > Power > Restart), and now Affinity files do not display in the File Explorer preview pane.

I am having same problem, no thumbnails visible. I have installed the Beta and Version 1, rebooted computer and issue did not resolve. I have cleared the thumbnail cache, rebooted, and issue is still there. thumbnails for all other applications show but no thumbnails for aphoto files. Is this a known issue> ? Any workarounds?

Thanks for your report @killzen, the issue reported in this thread is different from the issue you're seeing, but I do note a few oddities with the files in your screenshot - as a few of these have '.afphoto' in the file name twice.

Problem has been solved by uninstalling all versions USING THE WINDOWS UNINSTALLER and then reinstalling Version 2 (MSIX) . Do note that the installation requires updated Microsoft Visual C++ files (image included). If you are still having issues download and install the MSIX Trouble shooter and follow the instructions. It will analyze the MSIX, will determine dependencies (how I found I did not have the required C++ files installed) and will make the process simple and easy

By the way, all files,no matter on which drive they are located, now display the proper thumbnails. I have not tested this across the network but Im sure if I log into this desktop from another machine and browse the files, they will display the thumbnails.

I have what appears to be a weird problem. In some project folders when I open them in VS Code I don't see the entire directory tree in the file explorer, some folders and files are missing, and if I open some folders, content is empty, quite annoying. I have looked at Files: Excluded in the Settings and everything is default. If I open the folder through the File menu option I see the entire content of the directory alright. I am on win10 and the project is C#. Any ideas what might be wrong?Edit: Should mention I am using git. I have these extensions inststalled: .NET Core Test Explorer, C#, C# extensions, Debugger for Unity, Dotnet core commands, Dotnet Core Essentials, Git History, GitLens, Jira and Bitbucket, Prettier, Unity Code Snippets, Unity Snippets, YAML

In case somebody else runs into the same issue. Turns out not all excluded files show up in the Settings. The file under .vscode called settings.json likely contains a lot longer list, in my case all the files types and folders I was missing in my view was on that hidden list.

Is there a way to set the preview pane in Windows 10 - I have not been able to find it. If it isn't there I may need to revert to Windows 8.1 as I use it all the time - because we give our files numeric names in my company so the name gives you no idea what the file is!

I'm pretty sure that the OP is asking about how to view the contents of text-based files, such as Word docs, Excel spreadsheets, text files, etc. The preview pane doesn't necessarily show all of these. ff782bc1db
