Ive had a similar sort of issue with brand new monitors as little as 2 month ago i bought one and only half the screen displayed from the moment i plugged it in.. I bought through ebuyer, contacted them next day i had a new one and the faulty one was on its way back.

OP posting this stuff and reading reply's costs the company the same amount or even more money.

it is very well possible that the bezel or the LCD screen was mounted wrongly, as where there is tension on a spot that should not be there.

Getting hot and cold and hot and cold an then a sudden it cracks ...

Sounds reasonable to me, instead of playing a blame game, be practical on this

replace on of the older monitors in the department because of age and give this guy the old one.

I really see no reason to go that way, thank god over here (Netherlands), we are more practical on this kind of issues.

There is an impact mark on the screen, with a very slight plasma leak. If the circuit was broken it would be more defined and more of straight lines. the plasma does not always bleed straight away and sometimes can take a few days before manifesting itself. this looks like it was done with the point of a pen. Screens are pretty tough, but a small object impacting a screen in a small area (when someone is explaining something vigorously) can overcome the resistance layer of the glass layer and crack it

Its a fairly common occurance with our field staff. They get to where they are going and the screen have somehow commited suicide on the journey. Call me cynical but screens just don't do that. On one occasion user said half way through a job the screen went "blank" when we got it to the office hey presto broken screen, again another spontaneous screen break.

I've found that when ever there is a dark black spot from the liquid in the screen leaking then there's no doubt it was user induced. I've never seen plastic or glass LCD screens crack on their own. I've seen displays go completely dark or black on their own but that's generally a back light failure.

I replace these on a weekly basis. This damage is definitely cause by some sort of tension. It is very possible that the hinge screw are loose and causes the screen to warp as you open and close it. I also have seen customers leave their power supply next to the laptop in the bag, and any decent bump will be enough tension to crack the screen. These screens are cheap any parts only cost $40 - $60.

Lines / stripes in a monitor can form on their own from the LCD panel failing, yes - but what's depicted in the picture is clearly a crack / fracture caused by impact (the impact is on the right-hand side just below the center of the screen). Is it possible that a manufacturing defect could have caused the fracture: yes. Is it likely: absolutely not.

Appears to have happened when opening the laptop with the right hand. I always noticed broken screen that were mostly broken on the right because people open laptops with the right hand thus twisting/torquing the screen and breaking it. This is due to insufficient structural support in the screen casing. I advise people to open the laptop screen with 2 hands.
