Hi Just to let you know I too bought a Dell T130 server with Essentials software.Like you I wanted to Install Essentials as both host and VM.I didn't order mine with the pre-configured hyper-v role, but did get a copy of installation media.I simply added the hyper-v role to the preinstalled software and removed the essentials role. I was then able to create a VM and install essentials from the supplied media.The preinstalled (now host) software was already activated.I was able to activate the VM copy using the product code found on a label on the server PC. I had to scratch a small piece away to reveal it all. This then activated ok.Both the Host and VM seem to be working fine, this was after a long conversation with Dell when they assured me the the essentials license doesn't allow this. I think their information is out of date. MS clearly say you can do it, and I can say it seemed straightforward enough.

hello bolt hope your well.. can you tell me if this will work with windows vista home basic 32-bit 2007, am trying to download windows live Essentials but am not right sure in which version to get it so it works for mine, am not right good with computers and stuff, kind regards paul

This process can take 20-30 minutes in my experience. I have also seen it hang once indefinitely and not work. Unfortunately we were not able to figure that one out. If you are still having trouble though, I would review the CBS and DISM logs from the time you tried the upgrade. These logs can be found in the C:\windows\logs folder.

Hi there. We have a customer who has a DC (host) with Server essentials 2016 and a VM with Server 2016 Standard. Their VM is showing as not activated and is using KMS. We are looking to activate the VM with a retail license key.

I have a server 2016 standard I just built (PDC). I would like to downgrade it to essentials (bought a license key) so I do not have to deal with CALS. I have only 23 pc in enterprise, 2 printers, only 3 users. I only use it as a file server to house files.

I have tried the advice give by Microsoft at -us/windows/troubleshooting-update-issues-for-microsoft-security-essentials-859d3fc8-b920-77f5-7d14-6d9e0c4ceaaf to no avail but have found that when I attempt the final solution at Step 5 an unput of the given term "Cd program files\microsoft security essentials" produces the result that the path cannot be found.

I have windows 7 pro also and experienced the exact same thing. However, my MSE updates fine every day on its own. It is only when I try to update manually that I have the problem. I was used to manually updating and running a scan daily, as part of keeping an older computer in working order. Now I just check that I have the lastest definitions and then do a scan.

Hi Leo I tried upload to my older comp. with windows 7 antivirus program from eset and have problem . In red comes message ( the signature of this program is corrupt or invalid ) . What can I do to resolve this issue . Appreciate your answer . Thank you .
