The lyrics of "Come Thou Font", which dwell on the theme of divine grace, are based on 1 Samuel 7:12, in which the prophet Samuel raises a stone as a monument, saying, "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us" (KJV). The English transliteration of the name Samuel gives to the stone is Ebenezer, meaning Stone of Help. The unusual word Ebenezer commonly appears in hymnal presentations of the lyrics (verse 2).

Read the lyrics to 'Ebenezer' by Nathaniel Bassey and Victoria Orenze and sing along. "Ebenezer" is the 12th track on Nathaniel Bassey's new album, Hallelujah Live.

Come Thou Fount, a favorite of many people, is probably the first hymn I remember loving to sing. It is really a prayer for help in our walk with the Lord. This song expresses the desire of the believer to have his or her heart completely devoted to the Lord. We love this song!

The lyrics in hymns which we do not understand should not be removed, but rather studied so that we may worship the Lord with greater depth, affection and understanding of his unfailing and faithful character. I hope to sing this song again with you all soon, and when we sing this lyric, let us now worship with the knowledge that he is a God who is faithful to help those who call upon him!

"Ebeneezer Goode" is a song by Scottish electronic music group the Shamen which, heavily remixed by the Beatmasters, became their biggest hit when released as a single on 24 August 1992. The group's original version featured on the vinyl edition of their fifth album, Boss Drum.

The song also contains references to the use of cannabis with ecstasy, referencing the rolling of a cannabis joint with the lines "Has anybody got any Veras?" ("Vera Lynns" being rhyming slang for "skins" or rolling papers) and "Got any salmon?" ("salmon and trout" being rhyming slang for "snout" or tobacco).

The song entered the UK Singles Chart at number six in September 1992, climbing to number one two weeks later (ironically during the BBC's drug awareness week) and staying there for four weeks.[8] It was the UK's 13th-biggest-selling single of 1992.[9]

The music video for the song consisted of club scenes intermixed with a caped man (ostensibly Ebeneezer Goode himself, played by Jerry Sadowitz) running around parts of a city. Due to the use of flashing images in the video, some TV music channels make epilepsy warnings. Some channels, including VH1, edit the video to reduce the frame rate of these scenes, which deletes each bright frame.

When the Shamen appeared on BBC1's Top of the Pops, Mr C was expected to tone down the song due to its being broadcast. The group replaced the final lyric "Got any salmon?" with "Has anyone got any underlay?" When later asked about this in a radio interview, he replied it referenced rugs, not drugs.[4][10]

It is very important that we think about what we sing in our worship to God if we want to be pleasing to Him. God commanded singing as worship, and not entertainment. Paul taught, Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16). Since the songs we sing should teach and admonish, we risk vain worship if we sing words that are in conflict with scripture.

My organ teacher (the late Leonard J Blake, FRCO (CHM)) used to

sing these "lyrics" to his pupils. IIRC the one to the g minor fugue

BWV 542 started "O Ebenezer Prout, you silly little man, you make

Bach to sound as funny as you can...". There is another to the little Fugue in g minor BWV 578 which begins

"Mister Bach wrote many kinds of music forms: jigs, toccatas, fugues

and sonatas....". I do hope someone "out there" can give or point us to the complete

 set... Ben--

What did the man intend to do with this, btw? Were the lyrics supposed to

serve some obscure pedagogical purpose? Did he just have too much time on

his hands? Was that a practical joke? Just curious.JaimePhilippe escribi en el mensaje de noticias

Through the sequential anthology of their first studio effort A Song Like Me and the lyrics of the title track, the Wranglers suggest that the true superstars in country music are not merely the ones who stand on stage performing, but in fact the SONGS that are sung by such. At the core of the project, the band pays homage to the compositions that were born on a piece of paper in Nashville, Tennessee, then in time traveled through the sound waves of a set of speakers straight into the hearts of millions of people across the globe.
