Hi Cristen, more or less, yes, Ava typically followed the normal sleep patterns. As a newborn, naps were much more frequent. I think around the 6 month mark, she was on a 3 nap schedule with about 3 hour waking periods. Wee Bee Dreaming has a great set of sleep schedules: -blog/sample-schedule-4-months-up.

I actually just purchased a snoo for my upcoming arrival in November! Your review definitely helped convince me it was worth it. So excited to see how it works out for my baby:)

Just one question, what did you dress Ava in before putting her into the sleep sack? Thanks!

The Sleep Sack is essential whether you are camping in the great outdoors or braving the world of paid accommodation. Travelers will find the sleep sack indispensable in hostels and adventure hotels, protecting them from questionable bedding. People who travel for business will discover the sleep sack to be great for keeping the harsh chemicals often used to launder hotel sheets off of their skin. The travel bag at the top of the sleep sack doubles as a pillowcase which is the perfect size for a small travel pillow. The travel bag is attached to the sleep sack so it is impossible to lose. Take the Sleep Sack wherever you go - your dreams will be blissfully sweet.

Each time a baby goes to sleep, they tend to cycle through the different levels of NREM and then get to REM sleep which is when they dream (as their brain develops). After REM sleep, an adult becomes more wakeful and if disturbed might wake up, or if not disturbed, they go right back and start another NREM cycle and so it goes on throughout the night.

When you get home, it can take some time for your premature or sick baby to settle into their new environment. You may have some concerns about how little or often your baby will sleep, and how to get them into a sleeping routine.

Premature babies often have lighter and more active sleep than babies born at full-term, and this means that they can have more frequent sleep difficulties. This can include restlessness and breathing problems at night, like pauses in breathing during sleep (sleep apnoea). If your baby seems unsettled, you can try stroking them to reassure them that you are there.

Most neonatal units will advise on safer sleeping as part of your discharge plan. If you need further advice or reassurance on safer sleeping, you may also find it helpful to talk to another parent or attend a local support group. Unit staff at your neonatal unit can tell you if there are any support groups in your area. The Lullaby Trust also have a free information line that you can call for more guidance on safer sleeping. When the believer dies, the body goes into the grave; the soul and spirit go immediately to be with the Lord Jesus awaiting the body's resurrection, when they're joined together to be forever with the Lord in eternal bliss.1

Believers, at the moment of salvation, are "crucified with Christ," and yet they live (Galatians 2:20). When the earthly body of the believer dies, he or she lives on spiritually. Through faith in Christ, believers have been made alive in the spirit just as Jesus lives in the spirit. We who profess Christ are not destined for soul sleep or the grave!

Another scriptural event that is sometimes misinterpreted is Saul's visit to the medium of Endor. Some believe that Saul summoned the spirit of Samuel, that Samuel's spirit ascended from the ground, and that Samuel was angry because his sleep had been disturbed. However, sleep is not mentioned in the passage. The text only says, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" (1 Samuel 28:15). Further, as Thomas Constable noted, "This passage does not say that the witch brought up Samuel from the dead. God revealed Samuel to Saul."2

We don't know exactly where Samuel was before he was disturbed, but we do know he told Saul that the king and his sons would be with the prophet the very next day (28:19). This wouldn't be very meaningful if their souls were just going to be sleeping after they died. Rather, it's more likely Samuel meant they would all be conscious of their spirits meeting one another the next day.

Fears and questions about death are natural, but the Bible offers peace. Believers can take courage in the knowledge that the rest God provides for us after death is so much better than any so-called "soul sleep." While death is sorrowful and painful, for those who know Christ, the time beyond death carries with it marvelous hope. For Christians, death means we will finally, immediately be face-to-face with our Father.

The Award winning Purflo Sleep Tight Baby Bed is an amazing new sleep innovation that addresses the safety concerns of padded, untested soft nests and pods that are on the market. The Sleepstore searched the world to find a contemporary styled sleep space for babies that had been designed with safety first, while meeting the desire of parents to have a beautiful, portable little bed for their baby so we are so privileged that they partnered up with Purflo to bring their Sleep Tight Baby Bed to New Zealand.

The Sleep Tight Baby Bed design was created using the most up to date and relevant safe sleep guidelines. As with any new Purflo baby product, advice was sought from two independent UKAS accredited test houses to determine the most appropriate testing. The product has undergone a comprehensive risk assessment and extensive, exhaustive safety testing relevant to marketing it as suitable for overnight use. Specific British and European safety standard testing includes breathability, flammability, and unlike many of the nests and positioners in the market, due to its unique structure, our baby bed also passes rigidity, retention of side walls and roll tests. This means the Sleep Tight Baby bed has been tested in a similar way to a carry cot or moses basket, which do have a strict safety standard in the UK.

When it came to sleep and my firstborn, I probably did it all wrong. Being an overtired, overly hormonal and underprepared first-time mum was very much an eye-opener. In hindsight, I had no idea what I had let myself in for, and the yanking from my former selfish life to the very depths of selflessness hit me like a train, nothing more so than the lack of sleep.

You see, I created a rod for my own back, as onlookers would delight in telling me. Whilst I may not have co-slept, I did allow the baby to fall asleep on me. I lived for those dreamy days where the delights of maternity leave and no other children at home allowed me to lay on the sofa watching Gossip Girl as my finally contented baby falls asleep on my warm chest to the rhythmic beat of my pulsating heart. I mean, what is a baby likely to prefer? The warm, familiar comfort of a doting mother or the cold lonely sheets of your Moses basket?

So back to the advice bit, the how to get a newborn to sleep without being held, or any baby, for that matter. How to break away from the vicious self-imposed cycle living through the newborn only sleeps when held sage.

Oh yes, you may recall the hint I dropped earlier. In my infinite wisdom, as you can no doubt tell, wisdom is bestowed upon me by the bucket load. I was pregnant with my second child approximately three months after birthing my first. I was pregnant during that delightful newborn only sleeps on me phase. But alas, I was carrying life, and although unplanned, petrified and exhausted, I was delighted. Mostly.

Take from my experience what you will, perhaps there is a hybrid of the two to find a happy medium. Although I am not convinced. If not just know this, my now 5 and 6 year old children now go to sleep happily without being held by me. I can peer round their door after tucking them into bed and watch my child sleep unaccompanied and untraumatised at the prospect of going to bed by themselves.

Back sleeping needs to be consistent from day one. The odd night that a baby is slept differently, for whatever reason, is the one where the risk of SIDS peaks. Premature babies may have been slept differently whilst on a neonatal unit for health reasons, but when they go home they should be slept on their backs unless there is different medical advice.

Babies sleeping on their front sometimes seem to sleep longer and deeper. Their risk of SIDS is also much higher, probably for these same reasons. Parents and grandparents may have been slept this way themselves before the Back to Sleep campaign, but remind families that SIDS rates were significantly higher then. Babies need to be on their back.

In these scenarios, it is always best to put baby in their own safe sleep space, such as a cot or a Moses basket. Keeping the cot or Moses basket next to the bed might make it easier to do this. Anytime parents are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, a sober adult should be in charge of the baby.

Safer sleep must be discussed with all families, regardless of their circumstances. These conversations will not always be easy, so we have produced two key documents to share with the families you work with

Discussions around some areas of safer sleep advice can be challenging. There are no magic answers to making these conversations easier, but we must have them, and we know they make a difference. For each of the three main pieces of advice we provide more information and discussion tips.

4. Tell all families never to sleep on a sofa or armchair with their baby. Support with planning solutions for times when they might do so accidentally (e.g. moses basket next to the sofa, partner takes baby to cot)

Returning home from the hospital or birthing unit, you likely experienced the joy of your baby easily drifting off to sleep on you after a feed. As a new mom, amidst the exhaustion, I cherished those precious moments of snuggles, quiet time, and the blissful sight of the baby sleeping on me.

There are two camps with it comes to new-borns and naps and I tend to personally sit in the middle. One camp is firmly grounded in the belief that every nap should be in a crib/cot and contact naps, stroller naps and anything else should be forbidden due to fear of sleep associations. 2351a5e196
