There are differences from version to version in the type of joystick support that Microsoft DirectX offers. In Windows 95/98/Me, DirectX supports two methods to customize joystick capabilities: through custom entries in the Windows registry and through a virtual device driver (VxD) creation, which is called as joystick minidriver. The minidrivers that are used in DirectX versions 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 support the original minidriver interface, with minor differences in the DirectX 3.0 interface. In addition to the original minidriver model, DirectX versions 5.0, and later, include an alternative driver interface that is generally described separately.

Windows 95/98/Me joystick driver and configuration programs support analog joysticks that plug into the IBM standard game port. Joystick makers can make the joystick configuration programs customizable and provide explicit directions to the end user on how to customize the joystick. Joysticks can signal Windows 95/98/Me about their capabilities through the registry. These capabilities can include the use of throttle, point-of-view (POV) hats, rudders, and the number of joystick buttons.

All non-IBM standard joysticks, such as digital joysticks, MIDI joysticks, and analog joysticks driven by joystick accelerators must provide a joystick minidriver in addition to custom registry information. A joystick OEM can write a minidriver that provides access to nonstandard joystick hardware. This provides a mechanism for digital joysticks to work with any Windows-based game that uses the joystick application programming interface (API).

The driver model can deal with up to six axes, a POV hat, and a double word of buttons, so that an OEM can easily create a minidriver for new hardware with a higher degree of freedom than the current game port allows. The joystick minidriver provides complete flexibility to hardware vendors and allows game creators to use the installed base with their titles. In DirectX 5.0 and later, analog joystick support is also separated into a minidriver that uses a new interface. This new interface is loaded only when an analog game port is configured. The polling is extended with three extra POV hats, three more double words that contains button data, and a method to specify that it returns the velocity, acceleration, and/or force data for each axis.

The current virtual joystick driver (VJoyD) allows the configuration of up to 16 devices, any number of which can be driven by minidrivers. The configuration of minidrivers to devices can be one to one or one to many.

Right, so I have uninstalled the joystick in device manager under the human interface device. Restarted the computer, plugged the joystick in and when I open the game controller set up it recognises it as the black widow joystick and uses the speedlink driver! So all I can assume that I can uninstall the Microsoft driver but the speedlink one is hidden somewhere and will always overide the Microsoft one when the joystick is plugged in!

After closer inspection of my add/remove programmes list there was indeed an uninstall for the speedlink driver. After uninstalling I was able to carry out the calibration procedure but I still had an issue with the extent of the axis on the screen not matching the joystick.

Here comes the real issue! A couple of weeks ago I sprayed some lubricant into the joystick because the pickup was dirty and making erratic movements, this fixed that particular problem. The byproduct of this, however, was the pickup that the joystick wiper runs along had moved due to the lubricant (only fixed with a couple of small screws) and essentially it had gone out of mechanical calibration.

For DS4/DS5 to properly function on your Windows 10/11 PC you are required to install necessary first and third party drivers. Some of which, of course, are optional but will improve DS4windows capabilities. Here we will list and give a description of every driver needed to allow your DualShock 4 and DualSense 5 to work. Launching the DS4 app will also ask to install the drivers.

DS4Windows uses the FakerInput driver to expose system-wide virtual keyboard, relative mouse and absolute mouse. Allows Keyboard + Mouses events/commands to be usable in some situations where the usual way DS4Windows sends those commands (via SendInput) fails. Examples of those situations are elevated processes and games, UAC prompts and anti-cheat systems that block SentInput events. Use of FakerInput is necessary to allow DS4Windows to work with some games with anti-cheat protection like valorant.

HidGuardian is a driver that can hide controllers from the system and allow only chosen processes to detect them. It was previously used by DS4Windows to solve the double input issue, but was made obsolete by the release of its successor, HidHide, a similar driver that works better and is easier to use.

DS4Windows removed support for HidGuardian in version 3.0.8 in favor of HidHide. As such, users who used and still have HidGuardian installed can be in a state where their controllers are hidden and undetectable to Windows and DS4Windows.

1. I have attached pictures of the box in came in. Would you like me to remove the card so you have pictures of that too? I have one photograph of it inside it's plastic sleeve I took before I installed it, attached also.

2. Apologies, I am not the most computer literate, are you asking whether or not it is known to be compatible with my machine? If you are, the answer is no, I am not 100% as on the website (Amazon link below) I purchased it from it did say windows 10, not windows 11 which I am currently running on the machine. Also, I have found generally very little information on AMD machine and working PCIE cards... for some context on use purposes I have installed this card so I can connect to a work NAS, the reason we need such speeds is that we frequently access RAW video files from the NAS.

Thank you so much for the update and all the information that you provided. However, upon checking the pictures, there is no photo focusing on the markings on the network card. Kindly take a photo on both sides of the card. Kindly check the link below for the markings that we are looking for:

Appreciate the photos that you sent. Upon reviewing the photos, the markings on the card does not follow Intel markings similar to the link that I provided. And also, there is no YottaMark* and BradyID* Sticker on the card. Please check the link below on the details about YottaMark* and BradyID* Sticker.

Since there is no markings for us to validate, this card may be an OEM unit. The best way to identify is to contact your reseller to verify the OEM manufacturer. Then try to contact them if the card supports Windows 11 and if they have driver for it.

@Chris_Clockwise Please do yourself a favor and NOT use 3rd party driver sites. You never know what information from your machine they are uploading (and to what country it is going), and you never know what payload is in the packages they are downloading.

[Maybe Windows 12 will be better]

This is a typical intimidation tactic. Yes, the card is old; but it is working fine and I want to continue to use it. If you are not going to provide a decent driver, somebody else will. There are lot's of homelab or truenas server users out there (one of them is me). Our main PCs (which are mainly Windows) need another 10gbit card to take advantage of the speed of the server's 10G network card. We don't need anything fancy, anything new. Most of us does not have 10Gbit switches or etc. We simply directly connect two or three PCs together and use 10gbit speeds. X540 was a cheap and decent solution for this(as long as if you can cool it down and ok with it's electricity consumption).

I won't buy anything new for my homelab. I will continue to use my x540, with third party drivers. Since we have enough population, we can sort it out which driver is risky which is not in time.

By the way, I was going to buy two more of 10gbit x540s. Probably I will buy a knockoff from China because of this situation. I simply don't support this kind of business.

I do appreciate the sage warning, it is the only thing that has worked up to this point though so I am hesitant to stop using it. My enterprise-level antivirus software didn't pick-up anything when I scanned them before installing the driver. But I do hear you, this is a far from ideal situation, I just needed a fix to get back to work. Until I can see an official driver that works I am going to continue to use it out of necessity.

Thank you so much for the update. We have to agree that we don't recommend using drivers from 3rd party website. At this point, we recommend that you try to look for the OEM manufacturer for the correct support. However, it is up to you if you want to keep using the driver, as long as we have informed you that it is very risky.

However, the fact that you are from Intel, and have not been able to provide a driver to one of your products, and instead you have just told me not what to do, whilst deflecting ownership of the problem (the problem being the lack of driver support) by putting it back on the re-seller, your message has somewhat ruffled my feathers.

And also, we just released a driver pack for Windows 11. This is just a generic driver and for retail Intel network cards only, however you can still try and check if this driver will work. If not, best support is the OEM manufacturer.

We tried to check this issue further, however we want to apologize again and the reason we are referring you to contact your OEM because they are still the best source of support. Unfortunately, our support is limited since this is an Original Equipment Manufacturer(OEM) Ethernet controller. We understand that this is an Intel controller that is embedded with the adapter but it still be best to get in touch with OEM since they have customized drivers and software to enable or alter features on your system. They are in best position where you can seek assistance so you do not lose features or customizations of the Ethernet controller. 152ee80cbc
