Delta Air Lines says it will "vigorously oppose" a federal lawsuit filed by a passenger who alleges she was sexually assaulted during her flight. Delany Luh claims another passenger molested her as she slept and Delta allowed him to get off the plane scot-free. Last year, the FBI received 63 reports of sex assaults on flights compared to 38 in 2014.

Luh filed a federal lawsuit in Tennessee, claiming Delta was negligent by over-serving the passenger. "Delta knew or should have known its actions could lead to harm to a passenger, including a sexual assault." She feels that the flight attendants "just didn't do their job."

A Delta spokesman told CBS News customer safety is its top priority and it does not tolerate the harassment or assault of passengers. But the airline disputes Luh's version of events. "After deplaning, Ms. Luh first informed a Delta agent that she had been improperly touched on the leg by another passenger," the spokesman said. "Delta then immediately reported the incident to local law enforcement for their handling, and our understanding (is) the matter was not pursued."

Delta Air Lines also told us its employees are trained to monitor passenger drinking and behavior, and take specific steps when handling disruptions such as harassment, assault, and intoxication. That includes separating passengers, and alerting law enforcement before the plane lands.

In the summer of 2020, Ratfield is balancing a full life as a commercial airline pilot, activist, mother of two young boys with special needs, and trauma survivor. Making life even more challenging: In the midst of it all, she\u2019s been routinely sexually harassed and assaulted at work. Despite reporting the incidents to her bosses, the male pilot perpetrators are never disciplined.

Unfortunately, Ratfield\u2019s suit says the harassment against her is \u201Congoing and continuous\u201D from 2007 to the present. For sixteen years she\u2019s gone to work to fly various aircraft while facing down assaults, snide comments and her own bosses behaving like adolescent boys sniggering on the playground about seeing a girl\u2019s boobies.

Few details are provided in the lawsuit, but it\u2019s clear the attack traumatized her. Like so many victims of assault, Ratfield marches on with her life. She takes care of her children. She shows up to work.

What Ratfield doesn\u2019t know at the time: 1. HIMS is specifically an alcohol and substance abuse program for pilots, and 2. Monjeau was sending her to a place known to be full of predatory men to heal from sexual assault by a predatory man.

The 45th Space Wing's SAPR mission is to educate, advocate and collaborate to respond to and prevent sexual assault and its harmful effects on members of Patrick Space Force Base and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in New York's Eastern District, says the airline is to blame for the assaults, and claims working flight attendants did nothing to stop the man from consuming so much alcohol or prevent his behavior toward both women.

On Sept. 28, 2023 at approximately 1:43a.m. officers of the Delta Police Department were dispatched to the address of 248 Columbia St., City of Delta Colorado, for a reported disturbance. Upon arrival officers located a male party who has been initially identified as an assault victim laying at the back of the property near the alley. The preliminary investigation conducted by the officers on scene showed that the victim had been in an argument with another male party in the house, and was eventually attacked with a hatchet.

Sexual assaults are among the ugliest and most devastating crimes. Rapists often threaten, degrade, violate and criminally deprive victims of their basic human right to the safety and sanctity of their person. Sexual assaults are also among the most underreported crimes because of the victim's fear, shame and misunderstanding of their rights.

Sexual assault is a crime of violence. It is estimated that more than 80 percent of all sexual assaults involve the use of weapons, or the threat of violence or death. Rapists often look for potential victims who appear weak or vulnerable; however, anyone can be a victim of a sexual assault, regardless of behavior or appearance. Rape can happen to any person, anywhere or anytime. In a significant number of cases, the rapist is known to the victim.

As soon as convenient, the victim should report incidents of sexual assault, including date or acquaintance rape to the San Joaquin Delta College District Police Department, the local police (if the victim is unable to make contact with the District Police), or a College faculty or staff member who can aid in contacting the proper authorities. The Counseling Department and Health Unit can also help in contacting the proper authorities.

Hannah Chamberlin, a member of the partnership success team at Leda Health, started meeting with the Delta Gamma Fraternity over a year ago, first speaking with Delta Gamma at the National Panhellenic Conference. Members of the fraternity felt there was a lack of support for sexual assault prevention and Leda Health had the resources to help.

Leda Health, a healthcare technology startup specializing in care for sexual assault survivors, has partnered with the national Delta Gamma Fraternity for the 2023-24 academic year. The partnership, announced in October, aims to provide resources and support related to sexual assault prevention and response to members, according to the press release.

A 2009 study found that the rate of sexual assault reports was four times higher for sorority members than non-sorority members, with 29% of sorority members reporting being sexually assaulted and 7% of non-sorority members reporting assaults.

The protest comes almost two years after the FIJI protests, when UI students called for the removal of the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta, more commonly known as FIJI, from campus following a reported 2020 sexual assault.
