All 19 participants were asked to watch a 30-minute montage of images and videos of cute animals, having their heart rate and blood pressure measured before and after the study, with the majority wearing a heart rate monitor throughout. The main bulk of participants were students who were due to take an exam 90 minutes after this session, with the remainder being academic support staff who had declared they were feeling stressed because of work.

The psychological aspect investigated was the state anxiety, which is the anxiety provoked by a particular event, like an exam. I did some of this research myself. In my lab, we conducted a study with 1,880 subjects. They also had subjects in their study look at different types of images, including cute baby animals with big eyes vs. less -cute adult animal pictures. They then performed tasks to measure attention and focus. Subjects in the "cute" group performed better, indicating that the time spent with cute animal photos could improve their focus and potentially their productivity as well.

There are several online tools that you can use to detect images generated by artificial intelligence. Our favorite as of July 2023 is Hive Moderation. If you upload an image to the site, it will give you a percentage indicating how likely it is that the image was generated by artificial intelligence.

We ran these three photos through Hive Moderation, which told us that there was between a 99.6 percent and 99.9 percent likelihood that the images were generated by artificial intelligence. Good call, HiveMod.

The site claims that it is 99 percent accurate in analysing if images are AI-generated or not. However, like any algorithm, this tool learns from the images fed into it and, thus, can be easily fooled.
