2) Looking at some train schedule from Bern to Interlaken west, change at Spiez platform 2/3 - cannot understand this , why 2 numbers here - trying to understand, may want to visit Bern if weather is not good in the mountain.

1) Understand that if I do not have a proper train ticket, I would have to pay a stiff fine. For example, now I am going for a trip and get a return ticket from the ticket counter or machine, do I need to validate this ticket ? If yes, how and where to get it done ?

I am going to Zelle am see, i want to buy Bayernkarte to salzburg from Munich airport and then Einfach raus from Salzburg to Zelle. I wanted to buy the Einfach Raus tickets from Munich airport. So wanted to know. Otherwise, i have to buy in salzburg.

How many people traveling together? If one person, just buy a flexible ticket for 51.30 EUR using only regional trains. If two, you can buy a Bayern Ticket at the airport for 31 EUR out of the DB ticket machine. Go to Kufstein via Munich Ost. At Kufstein, you can buy an Einfach-Raus Ticket for two for 33 EUR. Then you will be traveling for 32 EUR per person.

You can buy a "Einfach Raus" ticket (as wmt1 said, for 2-5 travellers only) from a Meridian vending machine at the Munich East station, where you transfer to the Meridian train to Salzburg. Just take an earlier S-Bahn from the airport so that you have time to find the (yellow / blue) Meridian automat.

No combination of Bayernticket and Einfach Raus ticket can beat the Sparchiene price, assuming that you want to go just from Munich airport to Zell am See, i.e. no more train trips on the very same day. The Sparschiene ticket is bound to the trains selected when booking, but not restricted to slower regional trains.

So i landed in Munich at 5:40 am on 23rd September with my wife and daughter. I took a Bayern ticket from the airport for the family--valid from 12:01 am as it was a Saturday. 31 Euros. Weekdays, it is valid from 9 am.

I went from airport to Munich Ost. Then took a meridian train to Salzburg. Bought a Einfach Raus ticket at OEBB vending machine at Salzburg and reached Zelle by 12:44pm with beautiful weather. 37 euros.

I read there is a indian rail reservation counter at the arrival lounge at mumbai international airport. Is this true? I arrive in mumbai sept 7 and travel to goa by train sept 10 so would buy my rail ticket at airport if possible. Thank you

Just to be more positive you being a foreigner the Indian Railways has earmarked some tickets for only foreign tourist travelers and some of my foreign guest have mange to get the reservation even on the pen ultimate day of the travel under this quota. So hopeful you should be able to book one when here if you find difficulty getting one online.

If you buy a ticket from A to B which are you start and end point for a given day you can get off the train at any point and resume your journey later. A point to point ticket is valid for 24 hours. You can have as many breaks in the journey as you like.

I am pretty sure I will take these routes on these selected dates (only the time on each day may not be fixed)? It seems to me that I can get close to CHF 120/person of saving if I buy a Swiss Half Fare Card + buy standard individual tickets as compared to buying a Swiss Travel Pass. Another good thing about Swiss Half Fare Card is I can get 50% discount for the Jungfraujoch mountain rides as compared to only 25% with Swiss Travel Pass.

2) If I buy all these standard individual tickets online, do I just need to print out the PDF tickets and then keep them with me. I can immediately get on to the trains without needing to validate these tickets, and only show/evidence to the train conductors upon their audit? If so, there is no difference to me using a STP or SHFC + online train tickets, am I right?

If you have the SBB Mobile App on your smartphone you can store the tickets on there and just show that to the inspector (along with your printed Swiss Half Fare Card). Or if you are not comfortable with that you can print tickets.
