The multi-hyphenate legendary actor Kishore Kumar and comedy are a match made in heaven, and Padosan is all the cinematic proof we need. The evergreen Jyoti Swaroop directorial also stars Sunil Dutt, Saira Banu, Mehmood, Mukri, Raj Kishore and Keshto Mukherjee, and tells the comical tale of a young man who enlists the help of his musical-theatre friends to woo his next-door neighbour.

When a movie is so funny that it spawns a Comedy Universe with three more sequels (all of them can be watched on APV!), and a fifth one on the way, it deserves to be on our list of best Bollywood comedy movies of all time. Golmaal focuses on the chaos-driven lives of four best friends played by Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, and Sharman Joshi. The Rohit Shetty directorial continues to be a fan-favourite. P.S. The Amol Palekar comedy classic sharing the same name - Gol Maal - can also be watched on Amazon Prime Video!

Another multi-sequel addition to our list, but an underrated one. The hilarious Indra Kumar directorial stars Sanjay Dutt, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Aashish Chaudhary, Javed Jaffrey, Asrani, Sanjay Mishra and Vikay Raaz, and focuses on four men desperate for money and in pursuit of a hidden treasure with an unyielding cop hot on their tails. What follows is a grand misadventure.

Just before he made the world dance to his romantic tunes in Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Shah Rukh Khan flaunted his comedy chops in Duplicate in 1998. The Mahesh Bhatt directorial has Shah Rukh Khan in a dual role; one an aspiring chef and the other a dangerous gangster. The witty action comedy also stars Juhi Chawla and Sonali Bendre.

The flavors of Bollywood are more popular than ever for its entertaining and unique take on the common film genres, and its take on comedy is no exception. Comedy movies are a staple among the commercial titles released out of the Hindi-language film industry every year, one that Indian moviegoers await eagerly.

Andaz Apna Apna is a classic Bollywood comedy that remains unbeaten and unreplicated in its uniquely savory combination of humor. The movie was directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and featured the leading stars of the day as cast members, including Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Raveena Tandon, and Karishma Kapoor. The Khans appear in the movie as two overly pretentious, good-for-nothing fellows, who become frenemies when they clash for the love of a rich heiress, played by Raveena Tandon. Andaz Apna Apna is full of deliciously absurd circumstances borne through the clumsy schemings of a coterie of buffoonish characters. The end result rose well over the sum of its parts, giving audiences memorable characters and dialogues that are intimately familiar to Bollywood fans to this day.

Dhamaal is a fine example of the highly particular category of comedy movies brought about by the popularity of Hera Pheri. Recognized easily by its exaggerated characters, crisscrossing stakes, and chaotic events, this style of comedy was a dominant film genre in 2000s Bollywood, with many equally popular hits. Among all of them, Dhamaal stands out with its sheer number of iconic moments and memes that it delivered to the film pop culture. The movie follows a good-for-nothing bunch of friends who set off to Goa on a search for a hidden treasure, the location of which was cryptically revealed to them by a dying man. With actors like Ritesh Deshmukh, Arshad Warshi, Jaaved Jaaferi and Sanjay Dutt in its cast members, Dhamaal is bursting with gags and humorous circumstances, many of which will draw laughs simply through their childish absurdity.

Bhagam Bhag is another fantastic Bollywood comedy in the post-Hera Pheri train. Unlike some of its peers, the movie relies on a stronger and more involving script to build its humor, and leans more into the elements of double-dealing and deceptive identities. Additionally, the movie also weaves in elements of mystery thriller, making the movie all the more captivating. Bhagam Bhag follows the frantic activities of a struggling theater troupe that has been contracted to stage 30 shows in the UK. When their lead actress suddenly quits the troupe, they find themselves in the need to urgently recruit a new lead. However, they find themselves inexplicably tied up with dangerous criminals and more.

Malamaal Weekly is a darkly comical treasure hunt set in the landscapes of rural India. The movie is directed by Priyadarshan, the same man behind Hera Pheri and Bhagam Bhag. Events in the movie kick into gear when Lilaram, played by Paresh Rawal, discovers the latest winner of the town lottery dead in his house. A simple plan to take possession of the winning ticket turns into a complicated game of secrets when he is discovered by another villager in what looks like a murder. Malamaal Weekly is a truly entertaining rollercoaster ride that develops over the course of innumerable hiccups in a simple plan.
