Last Friday, I had a customer come in just for a Coles Myer Gift card, rather than the store-specific one we sell. Didn't buy anything else, so a bit weird there, but most of the customers are, so no biggie. Asks for $500 on the card and also asks if they can use split payment. No worries. Start the transaction and she proceeds to pull out a WAD of flybuys cards. Cue paying for the gift-card with flybuys dollars, all in increments between $9.00 and $130, all on different cards. I can't pull out of the transaction once one payment has gone through, so I'm stuck.

Once it's finally over, she asks for another gift card. This time, $300. I thought maybe it could be a scam thing going on, but we're only allowed to mention it to a customer if they're buying over 2 gift cards, and it's peak hour, there is a queue building, so whatever. Same thing, all flybuys cards. One flybuys card dosen't go through since the pin declined. Cue a bit of confusion/panic on her end. She tries again, same thing. So she resets the pin on her phone, pulls out another, gets the SMS code from that phone, and resets it on the first. Transaction is done, she asks how much she can put on one card and I say $500. She leaves. Duck to the bathroom and she's at Coles doing the same thing at self-check outs!

Weird as shit, but more so on the scammer rather than the scam-ee side of things. Then, on Saturday, she comes in again. Another coworker served her, and he didn't know about her, so all good. She asks for a 500 dollar one and for some reason can't do it, so goes for $130 this time. Pays using 4 Coles Myer Gift cards (With expiry 4 years from now, so could be the ones from the other day) and one flybuys. Leaves and probably ducks into Coles, too.

I won't serve her again if she comes in, and neither is anyone else. Something sketchy is for sure going on, but I can't for the life of me figure it out. Is it some type of Flybuys Dollar loophole? Why does she have 30 odd flybuys? Why does she have two phones? Some type of refund fraud, maybe?

Just went to pay for shopping at Coles to find out it didn't cost us anything because we had a credit after scanning the FlyBuys card. The staff member we queried this to told us that Coles had been overcharging in some things, and since our flybuys card had records of this, we got given a credit.

Velocity Frequent Flyer becomes the first Australian frequent flyer program to allow members to earn Status Credits with a supermarket partner. This gives Velocity members who link their membership to flybuys an opportunity to move through the Velocity status tiers faster to receive eligible benefits like lounge access, priority boarding and extra baggage3.

General Manager of flybuys Adam Story said: We are thrilled to be partnering with Velocity Frequent Flyer to help our flybuys members fly faster by simply transferring their flybuys points to Velocity Frequent Flyer Points to redeem for a flight.

flybuys has more partners than any other Australian supermarket loyalty program. That means we give flybuys members more opportunity to collect points faster, not just by shopping for groceries at Coles, but also by paying for everyday expenses such as fuel, clothing, homewares, energy bills, car, home and health insurance and gym memberships with one of our partners, and on all spending on a Coles or NAB flybuys credit card.

Millions of Australians do their grocery shopping every day at Coles and this new partnership will make it easier for them to attain their dream holiday with Virgin Australia. Velocity and flybuys have created an unrivalled proposition in the Australian market by providing the opportunity for members to earn Status Credits when they do their grocery or liquor shopping and present their flybuys card, which we know is extremely valuable to our members. This is the only way a Velocity member can earn Status Credits outside of flying.

Customers using the Coles flybuys card or online shopping service are having their personal details sent to up to 30 other companies owned by the same corporation and to third parties in at least 23 other countries.

Customers were told that by using flybuys or online shopping they consented to a privacy policy that allowed data collected to be shared with other companies in the Wesfarmers group, including Kmart, Bunnings and Officeworks. But the retail giant also revealed that the personal information it collects on its customers might be sent to nations such as China, Pakistan, the Philippines, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates, the US and Britain.

flybuys is an Australia n loyalty program owned and operated by Coles, with the main participating retail outlets being Coles Supermarkets, Coles Express, Kmart, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor and Target stores. It is one of Australia's largest loyalty programs, with over 10 million flybuys cardholders in over 5.5 million Australian households. Members earn points from household consumer purchases (and through credit card use) and subsequently exchange points for gift cards, merchandise, flights and other rewards.

flybuys began in 1994 as a joint venture of Shell, Coles Myer (now Wesfarmers) and National Australia Bank. The program met with substantial interest at launch, with a million Australian households joining within the first six weeks.[1]

Telecom Australia (now Telstra) joined the program in 1995 but withdrew after two years, having created the Telstra Visa Card with ANZ (later to become the ANZ Qantas Telstra Visa Card). In April 2012, Telstra rejoined flybuys with points being offered for pre-paid services.[2]

In April 2012, Coles announced a substantial relaunch of the program (changing the brand from "FlyBuys" to "flybuys") with points issuance for major brands increasing to 1 point for $1, and introduced AGL, Telstra and Webjet as new partners. Expiry of points was removed for members who used their card or redeemed at least once a year. It sent new cards to over 8 million households in Australia and also introduced a benefit by which flybuys members could gain a 10% discount off five product categories of their choice.[5][6]

Initially, flybuys points could only be redeemed for flights. This was extended in 1996 to include other benefits with a travel or leisure theme, such as accommodation, meals and entertainment. In 1999, redemption by a $100 Coles Myer shopping voucher was introduced, and general merchandise items followed. In 2009, most redemptions were gift cards or credits to credit card balances and flights were a small proportion of redemptions.[14] According to flybuys, as of 2010 over ten million rewards had been redeemed by members and there were over 800 choices.[15][16] In 2012, "flybuys Dollars" was introduced, allowing members to redeem points when paying for purchases at Coles, Kmart, Target, Liquorland, First Choice Liquor and Coles Express.[5]

flybuys was criticised regarding the perceived effort required to collect enough points to gain a reward.[17] For many years, no rewards were available for less than 11,000 points, encouraging critics to claim that $55,000 was required to be spent to gain a reward with a value of around $100. However, since 2006, awards have been available from 2,500 points, and now as low as 1,200 points (streaming new release movies)[18].[19]

After we split her name and additional card was left on the account until she started using the points, so I called Flybuys to remove her from the account. Low and behold the points were still been deducted (and yes also being credited for her purchases). After some back and forth with Flybuys it was discovered that ONLY her name was removed not the actual additional card s had that removed as well. Now, one would assume that the "coles Mastercard" under her name would also be removed. NOPE, as the Flybuys account was still linked to the Mastercard she was able to again deduct (points also credited). I got all my points back from Flybuys and asked them to resolve the issue.

Escalated the issue with flybuys as to which they advised they would escalate the issue and have management call me to advise what next would be done (this was months ago), I am still waiting for a call back and I call weekly to receive and update, I only receive a response of "we are looking into it". The last call to them I lodged a formal complaint re: privacy issues (supervisor couldn't even give me a reference number for the complaint). 2351a5e196
