Both Microsoft and Xbox gift cards and download codes work in the same way: once redeemed to your Microsoft account, you can spend your balance at Microsoft Store online, on Windows or Xbox, and you can get downlaods for the latest apps, games, movies, TV shows, and Surface, Xbox, and accessories.

A card security code (CSC; also known as CVC, CVV, or several other names) is a series of numbers that, in addition to the bank card number, is printed (not embossed) on a credit or debit card. The CSC is used as a security feature for card not present transactions, where a personal identification number (PIN) cannot be manually entered by the cardholder (as they would during point-of-sale or card present transactions). It was instituted to reduce the incidence of credit card fraud.

These codes are in slightly different places for different card issuers. The CSC for Visa, Mastercard, and Discover credit cards is a three-digit number on the back of the card, to the right of the signature box. The CSC for American Express is a four-digit code on the front of the card above the account number. See the figures to the right for examples.

CSC was originally developed in the UK as an eleven-character alphanumeric code by Equifax employee Michael Stone in 1995. After testing with the Littlewoods Home Shopping group and NatWest bank, the concept was adopted by the UK Association for Payment Clearing Services (APACS) and streamlined to the three-digit code known today. Mastercard started issuing CVC2 numbers in 1997 and Visa in the United States issued them by 2001. American Express started to use the CSC in 1999, in response to growing Internet transactions and card member complaints of spending interruptions when the security of a card has been brought into question.

The card security code is typically the last three or four digits printed, not embossed like the card number, on the signature strip on the back of the card. On American Express cards, however, the card security code is the four digits printed (not embossed) on the front towards the right. The card security code is not encoded on the magnetic stripe but is printed flat.

The CSC for each card (form 1 and 2) is generated by the card issuer when the card is issued. It is calculated by encrypting the bank card number and expiration date (two fields printed on the card) with encryption keys known only to the card issuer, and decimalising the result (in a similar manner to a hash function).[9][10][11]

As a security measure, merchants who require the CVV2 for "card not present" transactions are required by the card issuer not to store the CVV2 once the individual transaction is authorized.[12] This way, if a database of transactions is compromised, the CVV2 is not present and the stolen card numbers are less useful. Virtual terminals and payment gateways do not store the CVV2 code; therefore, employees and customer service representatives with access to these web-based payment interfaces, who otherwise have access to complete card numbers, expiration dates, and other information, still lack the CVV2 code.

The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) also prohibits the storage of CSC (and other sensitive authorisation data) post transaction authorisation. This applies globally to anyone who stores, processes or transmits card holder data.[13]Since the CSC is not contained on the magnetic stripe of the card, it is not typically included in the transaction when the card is used face to face at a merchant. However, some merchants in North America, such as Sears and Staples, require the code. For American Express cards, this has been an invariable practice (for "card not present" transactions) in European Union (EU) countries like Ireland and the United Kingdom since the start of 2005. This provides a level of protection to the bank/cardholder, in that a fraudulent merchant or employee cannot simply capture the magnetic stripe details of a card and use them later for "card not present" purchases over the phone, mail order or Internet. To do this, a merchant or its employee would also have to note the CVV2 visually and record it, which is more likely to arouse the cardholder's suspicion.

Supplying the CSC code in a transaction is intended to verify that the customer has the card in their possession. Knowledge of the code proves that the customer has seen the card, or has seen a record made by somebody who saw the card.

When you redeem an Apple Gift Card or App Store & iTunes gift card, you can make purchases with your Apple Account balance. Those purchases can include apps, games, subscriptions like Apple Music or iCloud+, and more. But for some purchases, Apple Account balance can't be used. Learn what you can buy with your Apple Account balance.

The card security code (CSC) is usually a 3 - or 4 - digit number, which is not part of the credit card number. The CSC is typically printed on the back of a credit card (usually in the signature field). On some cards, all or part of the card number appears before the CSC, for example, 1234 567. In this example, 1234 are the last four digits of the credit card number, and 567 is the CSC.

The CID/4DBC is ALWAYS located ABOVE the embossed (raised) account number on the face of the card. In some instances, the CID/4DBC is located on the left side of the card, but is always above the account number. Some cards have a four-digit number embossed below the account number, but this is not the CID/4DBC.

@Mark_Gibbons_1 I would love to help but I am not sure what you are referring to when you say the automatic function under card view. I am attaching a screenshot, please tell me if this is similar to what you are hoping to accomplish.

I've added a screen print below, this is my current view on card view, the default color is red on all of these tasks. I have set up conditional formatting in the background, red is one of the colors I actually used, but the problem I have is that the default color on scorecards is already red, which is not convenient, I would like to change the default color on here to Grey if possible so that if no criteria's are being met under conditional formatting these task show grey.

This has been asked here many times before (message from 2016, message from 2017!) but I figured I would give it another go. Almost every website where I need to enter credit card information has an additional field that prompts for the billing zip code, which 1P does not fill in. Note that telling people to use 1P address item functionality is just as unsatisfactory now as it was back in 2016 & 2017. We need an additional field in CC items where one can fill in the billing zip code, preferably with a way to autofill the zip code from an address item when we first set it up.

I realize that filling in zip codes on web forms is hit or miss so this wouldn't always work properly, but don't worry: the credit card autofill is already pretty hit or miss so occasionally not getting the zip code right will still be better than never getting the zip code right. :)

Hey @foobar! I definitely understand why adding a billing zip code field to Credit Card items would be useful. While I can't say for sure when or if this will be available, I can forward your request for this feature with the appropriate team so they can take it into consideration.

Has anyone experienced this error message? I've tried updating my credit card information, old one expired, and every time I enter the new security code is says to enter a valid code. I've tried multiple times and always get the same message.

Miraculously it actually worked, I was able to update my apps and purchase a new app with no problems. I fully understand it is just an extra step in the process, but it is using the same method of payment, just essentially adding a middleman. I hope this helped, I'm interested in hearing from Apple on this issue because it is clearly an iOS issue not a card or bank issue.

Hi I am experiencing the exact same problem. I'm looking right at the security code and reviewed the information like 20 times and it says invalid security code. I looked at the links, but I already know this information. I've entered this exact information for online purchases and there is no issue.

I downloaded ios 6 and ever since I cannot download or update any of my apps even free ones, it keeps telling me invalid security code. I have always used the same credit card I retuned card number and security code, and I tried two other cards no matter what card I use or if the correct information is entered I keep getting the same error message "invalid security code" this is so frustrating. Looks like I won't be purchasing anything for awhile. The links were not useful for me either.

I updated tu ios6 on my iPad but not my iPhone and I keep getting the "invalid security code" error message on both of them!! Like mgerickson01, I have tried multiple cards and still got the same error msg for all of them. What aggrevates me is that one of the cards it is rejecting is a card that I have previously used w/out any problem!!

It is a bug with the new io6 update. I tried multiple cards too and with no avail. So I used my paypal account and it worked. As soon as apple fixes the bug I guess this is my only option. Hope this helped.

You have to update your billing information on the Apple Web Site, not in itunes or from you application store. The issue is that Apple iTunes keeps adding the additional 4 digit zip code and it will reject your card security id.

So if your zip code is 40221, you hit done on the billing info page and you look and it reads 40221-2323. This is where it's rejects your security code. I just went to the web site and finally it worked.

Try using a gift card, I have had this problem before and it is usually because of a unpaid balance. You can chat with iTunes support as well to find out what is going on with your account. Should fix the problem. Hope this helps you guys out. ? ff782bc1db
