Written by your class correspondents, Class Notes are your opportunity to connect with your class and share news. Did you get married, have a baby, or welcome a grandchild? Have you marked a career milestone or taken a trip? Do you have a Big Red memory that would make your classmates smile? Submit your news via the online form, or write to your correspondent using the contact info at the end of each column.

Caplan Cobb, a firm co-founded by James Cobb, has been honored by the Southern Center for Human Rights (SCHR), receiving their 2023 Luminary Award. With this Award, they pay tribute to Caplan Cobb's extraordinary contributions to justice and fairness. They uplift the firm's work on State of Georgia v. Federal Defender, which enjoined the State from executing Virgil Presnell and others, and the amazing victory on behalf of incarcerated people and their loved ones through their settlement in a nationwide consumer class action against prison telephone company Global Tel*Link (GTL). They stood alongside SCHR and the Georgia Advocacy Office as co-counsel in their South Fulton Jail suit, brought on behalf of women with serious mental illness who were being held in solitary confinement over 23 hours a day, which won material improvements to the lives of women at the jail.

Shireen Y. Wetmore is joining Duane Morris LLP as a partner in its San Francisco office. Shireen, who spent the past nine years at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, has joined the Duane Morris employment, labor, benefits and immigration practice group. Her practice focuses on employment litigation, including both class actions and single-plaintiff cases and arbitrations.

Paul Piccigallo has been named shareholder at Littler's New York office. Paul represents employers in various areas of labor and employment law. His principal focus is the defense of class and collective action lawsuits under federal and state wage and hour laws, including both white collar misclassification actions and actions brought on behalf of hourly employees seeking to recover unpaid minimum, regular, and overtime wages.

Christopher Norman has been brought on as an Associate at the Dallas office of Wood, Smith, Henning & Berman. He most recently worked as a contract attorney, where he gained experience in securities violations and pharmaceutical class-action tort litigation.

Phillip Robinson passed away on July 6 at the age of 75. After graduating from GW Law, Phillip practiced law at the law firms Patton Boggs, Bell Boyd & Lloyd, and Ludwig & Robinson. During this time, for over 20 years, he taught international law classes at George Washington University.

William Granberry passed away on June 24 at the age of 95. At GW Law, Bill was the SBA President, and graduated top of his class. After his graduation, Bill practiced law for several years in Alabama before co-founding the American Mortgage Insurance Company, the second oldest private mortgage company in the US.

Andi Mudryk, JD '89

Andi Mudryk, GW Law alumna from the class of 1989, has been appointed to Sacramento County Superior Cout. She is the first transgender person appointed to the California bench, but she is also the second openly transgender person to serve as a judge. Mudryk is a trailblazer and has previously served in positions advocating for disability rights.

Nicolas A. Florio, GWNY' 22, JD '24

Nicolas Florio, GWNY '22, a wonderful student in the current GWNY class, has accepted a Summer Associate position with Ruskin Moscou Faltischek, a preeminent business law firm in Long Island, minutes from where Nicolas grew up. Nicolas will work primarily in the firm's corporate department

Rosalyn Bell, JD '51

It is with great sadness that we announce that Rosalyn Bell, class of 1951, has passed away. She was a judge in the Maryland Court of Special Appeals and an expert in family law and divorce. She worked diligently to stamp out gender discrimination within the legal system by promoting women as legal professionals and by working to ease the bias that she perceived the courts practiced against female litigants.

The instructor is responsible for facilitating access to class notes. Please share personal and professional accomplishments, understanding that submissions may be edited for style, length and clarity. While we make every attempt to publish information in a timely manner, please understand that your news may not appear for several months due to our print schedule. If the class note is published in a future edition of the magazine, you will receive a complimentary copy of the issue in the mail.

Campbell is an accomplished litigator with more than 14 years of experience counseling and representing corporations, educational institutions, municipal clients, and individuals in an extensive range of civil and commercial matters in both state and federal courts. She has managed complex commercial actions, contract disputes, employment matters, shareholder disputes, business dissolutions, property rights and boundary disputes, insurance defense matters, negligence and other tort cases including premises liability and personal injury actions, and proceedings brought under New York State CPLR article 78. Campbell has defended clients against class actions, constitutional and civil rights claims, and cases brought pursuant to numerous federal and state statutes, including 42 U.S.C. Section 1983, the federal False Claims Act, the FMLA, the ADA, the ADEA, the New York Human Rights Law, the New York State General Municipal Law, and the New York State Labor Law.

Friday, February 2, 2024 will be the next deadline for submission which has a 900 word count for all classes. The next Zoom meeting for secretaries to gather will be scheduled for Thursday, January 4, 2024.

Most instructors would rather you did not cite the lecture notes because they likely created their handouts based on information adapted from books, journals or other such resources. Only use lecture notes if you cannot find the information elsewhere.

When citing a handout from class, first confirm that the information is not originally from a published source (book, journal article, web page, etc). Class handouts are frequently copied or adapted from other sources. Locate and cite the original source, if possible.

Keep fellow classmates up to date with what's been happening in your life by emailing class notes to your class secretary. A fine lady loved by everyone and an example of its never too late to go to college.

After graduation from law school, he joined the law firm of Weber, Schwartz and Alschuler, where he won one of the first consumer class action lawsuits in the country against the Playboy Club. Grossman stayed with the firm for more than 40 years. In 2013 he joined Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP, and retired in January 2020.

She is survived by her husband, Jamie Bernald (JD 1999), sons William and Ryan, parents John and Barbara Alderfer, brother Kevin Alderfer, sister Karen Alderfer (Michael Truong). She will also be dearly missed by a host of other family, classmates, friends and colleagues.

Ali Abugheida (JD 2012), was promoted to partner at Buckley LLP and represents corporate and individual clients in a variety of litigation and government enforcement matters, with a focus on complex commercial disputes and consumer class actions.

Dennis Franks (JD 1983), 64, died on November 28. Prof. Franks earned his JD from USC Gould and went on to become a respected and accomplished attorney, achieving notable success in the entertainment law field.
