The Cameroon Hymnal is a book of hymns used in Cameroon. The Catholic Church sing songs from it during every season of the church calendar. The hymnal contained 349 hymns. There have been numerous changes to the book over the years. Information technology students at the Catholic University Institute of Buea (CUIB) created Android and Windows versions in 2013.

Is there any reason why the USCCB hasn't gotten around to commissioning a standard pew hymnal? I've gotten so used to having a Hymnal 1982 with over 720 hymns, plus service music, in every pew. Most of those hymns are written in parts so that a SATB choir (and anyone in the congregation who is an alto, tenor, or bass) can sing to their fullest ability.

I noticed that the hymns and service music in those disposable missalettes are all in unison, even those that are in parts and/or have soprano descants in my 1982 hymnal. I think that having a rich musical basis would go a long way in converting and retaining the faithful. It would also be cheaper, in the long run. If parishes used hymnals and some equivalent of the BCP in pews instead of making recurring purchases of missalettes, I think they could save a good bit of money. Have the bishops ever considered this? If not, why? 17dc91bb1f
