Under the Train Horn Rule (49 CFR Part 222, issued on August 17, 2006), locomotive engineers must begin to sound train horns at least 15 seconds, and no more than 20 seconds, in advance of all public grade crossings. If a train is traveling faster than 60 mph, engineers will not sound the horn until it is within 1/4 mile of the crossing, even if the advance warning is less than 15 seconds. There is a "good faith" exception for locations where engineers cannot precisely estimate their arrival at a crossing and may begin to sound the horn no more than 25 seconds before arriving at the crossing.

Train horns must be sounded in a standardized pattern of 2 long, 1 short, and 1 long blasts. The pattern must be repeated or prolonged until the lead locomotive or lead cab car occupies the grade crossing. The rule does not stipulate the durations of long and short blasts. The maximum volume level for the train horn is 110 decibels, and the minimum sound level is 96 decibels.

I don't remember the horn sound being there at the start of the game, but does anyone have any idea what it is? It honestly terrifies me to death. And what about the loud wailing noise? What creature emits that? Is it just all ambiance?

Edit: not it's not reefbacks. A reefback has a much deeper whale than what I'm listening to. These are high pitch whales reminiscent of whales. Spoilers And the horns I'm talking about sound like the horn of the cannon that shoots down the Sunbeam.

I always had the music and sound effects completely turned off and never had to listen to this sound, and now I hear it after every goal and it's really annoying especially in training where I make a lot of goals.

If he doesn't mention in the video what synth he is using and you really want that specific sound is, you could contact him. To my ear it sounds like many other synth brass sounds but with a bit of simulated breathiness; perhaps a synth brass ensemble sort of sound?

I'm working on connecting with "Underbelly", (You Suck At Producing YT Channel?) when he's figuring out sounds for people but have barely missed him twice so far and I'm just being proactive in trying to source others who might have some ideas.

The simulated breathiness is good and I will have to figure out how to add that. Today I put down the melody using horns from the Korg Triton and will then started adding things to figure it out so if you have a "breathy" vst idea let me know. Will work with some phase distortion and keep hunting till I find some ingredients that work.

I have a 2016 Edge. I really don't mind the warning, but does it really have to be the full blast horn? There are sometimes I start the car, and then have to get out and the warning scares the crud out of me even when I am ready for it...couldnt it be a quieter chime??

as a follow up to Tacyon's post, I believe the reason for this "safety feature" originated on hybrid vehicles but extends to all push button start cars. Owners of these cars (think Prius) were pulling into their garages running as electrics and without any sound were forgetting to turn the car off and just hopping out. Later that night when they were fast asleep, the battery in the car became drained enough for the car to start to recharge it in the closed garage causing the carbon monoxide issue. There have been several deaths and lawsuits against 10 major car makers

On my 2016 there is a chirp for lock/unlock but it still honks the horn twice when closing the door with the engine running and the key not in the vehicle. I don't think they changed that for 2017, did they?

Hello! This evening, my Mac started making tooting horn sounds every few minutes as if theres an error. I cant see an error anywhere. There is nothing unusual in the console (apart from the sandbox error when Im running mail but this is sporadic and not consequent with the tooting) and there is no visual error. Plus, my default alert sound is not a tooting horn. Does anyone know how I might discover what it is?

I recently talked with someone who had shut down her iMac and the next day a horn sound was playing about every two minutes while on the Desktop screen. It sounded kind of like a clown horn, it had two shorts beeps a pause and two beeps.

This sound was occuring in a new account we made, and it also appeared while on the login screen. We were about to test it in Recovery to see if it was a hardware issue, but she had to leave. While I am aware that there are many start up tones that indicate errors, I have never seen this before.

"In a word: stunning. The playing of virtually all of London's top horn players is marvellous. The Humperdinck Evening Prayer is beautifully moulded, contrasted with the 16 horns in the Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, which is a real romp. Then, if you thought you knew Berlioz's Roman Carnival, just listen to what massed horns make of it! Recommended most strongly to all but the purist" Gramophone

The London Horn Sound builds on the extraordinary tradition of French Horn playing in London (formerly the home to the talents of Dennis Brain, Alan Civil and Barry Tuckwell) and brings together for the first time, today's generation of world-class London-based players including Richard Bissell, Nigel Black, Anthony Halstead, Frank Lloyd, David Pyatt, Hugh Seenan, Michael Thomson and Richard Watkins. From Mozart to Queen, Rossini to Ellington, with a tip of the hat to film soundtracks in the shape of James Horner's fantasy from the box office smashing epic movie Titanic, complemented by deft and sensitive arrangements this is a truly unique showcase for the cream of the London crop.

I have a song where I would like to put in what sounds like car horns honking. I want to be able to vary the pitch and duration of the sounds. So I'm thinking I could use my keyboard through MIDI. That would allow me to control pitch and duration. However, I don't know how to find a car horn sound to use for the track. I suppose I could use a trumpet or other horn sound, and EQ it to sound like a car horn. But maybe someone here knows a better way? Please note that I have no experience with MIDI sounds, so this will be my first attempt.

I've retextured a sports car and I just wanted to know what I have to put in the config.cpp file to change the original 'sportscarhorn' sound to a custom sound file located in a 'sounds folder' within the new addon car folder.

At present, there is an option to enable/disable the sound of the indicator as well as that of the park assist. And as for the sound of the horn, it has been only 1 in all motors including 450 and its variants. Perhaps, you might have found out all these by now

After a certain amount of time (various) after T/O I get this honking horn sound. Although I find no irregularities in the FMC and/or overhead panel etc. I cannot get rid of it and will remain until the final approach.

It sounds like it might be the cabin altitude warning horn that you are hearing. If your cabin altitude goes above 10,000 feet you will hear that horn. It is that same sound used for the takeoff configuration warning. There is a horn cutout button on the overhead panel. Press that and if the sound goes away then you there's your problem. Check your pack and bleed switches to make sure they are on.

I think Ralgh has it correct. From what you describe, it is the altitude warning horn. A horn will sound (sounds like a car horn) when the cabin altitude goes over 10,000ft, AND also when you are approaching your preset autopilot altitude. At 10,000ft it is a reminder not only about cabin altitude, but also about external lights that are on after takeoff (such as takeoff lights) ... you're at 10,000ft so it's time to turn those lights off. The horn should sound once, and once only, each time an altitude is reached (ie, once at 10,000ft and then once at any subsequent preset autopilot altitudes).

If the horn continues to sound, constantly, then that is a warning about a cabin pressure problem and indicates immediate action needs to be taken to rectify the problem. In this situation the flight crew would put on oxygen masks and then do the CABIN ALTITUDE WARNING OR RAPID DEPRESSURIZATION checklist.

The FCOM says "At or above 10,000ft MSL, set LANDING light switches OFF". The Airbus FCOM is similar, and, from memory the Dash-8 as well. There are other checks performed at 10,000ft as per the FCOM(s) as well. But you can see why I mentioned the horn at 10,000ft as a reminder to switch off the external lights. e24fc04721
