There were more than 10,000 armed conflicts during the Civil War, so many that it can be hard to know which ones were the major encounters. The Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System simplifies the research with brief but informative histories of the nearly 400 battles deemed most significant by the National Park Service's American Battlefield Protection Program. Battles can easily be searched by both state and campaign

Known as the Forage War, this period was noted for several small engagements in which Washington's troops attempted to keep British soldiers from securing hay for horses and livestock, in addition to other provisions. Although it consisted of small battles and skirmishes, casualties could still be high. In one engagement, a large detachment made up of three regiments of British regulars and one battalion each of light infantry and grenadiers, clashed with an even larger American force resulting in almost 70 British soldiers killed and wounded.

General Washington was marching towards New Brunswick. The British kept their stock of supplies there. The American army needed more supplies. When they stopped near Somerset, General Washington saw his soldiers were hungry and tired. Instead of attacking New Brunswick, General Washington decided to camp for the winter. He took his army to Morristown where they safely set up winter quarters.

General Cornwallis thought New Brunswick might be attacked next. The British quickly marched there to protect their supplies. Soon after they arrived, General Howe ordered the British to leave New Jersey except for a few soldiers in Perth Amboy and New Brunswick.

The battles of Trenton and Princeton were part of the "Ten Crucial Days" of the American Revolution. The battles turned the war around for the Americans. Many people who gave up hope now believed America would win the Revolution.

On the third day of battle, fighting resumed on Culp's Hill, and cavalry battles raged to the east and south, but the main event was a dramatic infantry assault by 12,500 Confederates against the center of the Union line on Cemetery Ridge, known as Pickett's Charge. The charge was repulsed by Union rifle and artillery fire, at great loss to the Confederate army.

Over the next two days, the US troops at sea and on Midway continued their attacks, forcing the Japanese to abandon the battle and retreat. The Japanese lost approximately 3,057 men, four carriers, one cruiser, and hundreds of aircraft, while the United States lost approximately 362 men, one carrier, one destroyer, and 144 aircraft. This critical US victory stopped the growth of Japan in the Pacific and put the United States in a position to begin shrinking the Japanese empire through a years-long series of island-hopping invasions and several even larger naval battles.

In what became known as the Battle of the Philippine Sea, American and Japanese carriers fought a two-day sea and air battle off the coast of Saipan. It would go down as one of the biggest carrier battles of World War II. Japan lost three aircraft carriers and more than 300 planes. On Saipan, the Marines and army faced an enemy well dug-in and prepared to fight to the death. Of the 30,000 Japanese troops who defended Saipan, less than 1,000 remained alive when the battle ended July 9.

Can Pokemon A beat Pokemon B, and by how much? The battle simulator seeks to calculate and illustrate the answer to that question. It displays a timeline of what each Pokemon does, and how much damage they deal. While the simulator strives to paint as accurate a picture as possible, note that various factors may affect the outcome of an actual battle, such as Pokemon stats, latency, device performance, and human decision-making. We hope the simulator can serve as a helpful guide for real-world battles.

Battle Rating is a way of measuring battles beyond simply "win" and "loss"; it may be valuable to know not only which Pokemon can win, but which can do so while sustaining the least amount of damage, leaving them in a better position for the next fight. 2351a5e196
