The fate of the bridge idea was now in the hands of the War Department as only it could authorize construction as the owner of the land on either side of the Strait. Additionally, the War Department had jurisdiction over all harbor construction potentially affecting shipping traffic or military logistics. In May 1924, San Francisco and Marin counties made a joint application to the War Department for a permit to build a bridge. The War Department held a hearing on May 16, 1924, to discuss two issues: would the bridge hinder navigation and was adequate financing available. Because of overwhelming testimony in favor of the bridge project, Secretary of War John W. Weeks issued a provisional permit on December 20, 1924.

Strong opposition emerged quickly from well-financed special interests, particularly ferry companies. An aggressive campaign was launched to stop construction of a bridge and the formation of the special district as the entity to build the bridge. Eight years of opposition and litigation followed.

Bridge supporters prevailed, and on December 4, 1928, the Golden Gate Bridge and Highway District, comprised of its six member counties, was incorporated by the California State Legislature as the sole entity responsible for the final design, construction, and financing of a bridge.

Is it silly of my to want to put a texas special (bridge) in the neck position of my jag-stang? I've thought about it before I even bought the JS and then i think I read somewhere that it's been done before. I know kurtd put the texas special in the neck position, but I think puting a TS pickup meant for the bridge will give the neck position a more gritty sound.

strat pickup sets which are meant to be balanced in volume between the five positions will have the neck pickup the weakest, and the bridge pup the strongest. because the string is swinging more quickly, and over a longer distance towards the middle of the neck, pickups closer to that position will naturally produce more sound. to counter this, the bridge is wound hotter, and the neck weaker.

in addition to this, the string's vibration is very complex, there are many fluctuations in the vibration across the strings length, meaning that more notes than just the note being played come out. when a harmonic is played, all vibrations other than that of the harmonic are deadened, or at least suppressed. the 'fundamental' is the lowest note. this is also the loudest, and is in full swing at the 12th fret. however, harmonics usually peak at different places (and have multiple peaks). moving away from the 12th fret, a pickup picks up less fundamental, and more of certain harmonics. this causes the different timbre (character) of pickup placements. when a pickup is wound hotter, its resonant frequency (the frequency at which it is loudest) descends, so that certain harmonics, or the fundamental, are emphasized. so, a hotter bridge pickup relative to the neck results in a more balanced sound.

hmm, idk. does it have a metal cover? aren't tele pickups unique? i mean a strat pickup couldn't fit in there right? i know the bridge pu's are, so if the neck ones are too, then you could never put one pickup in the other position w/out routing or modding the pu's

"The resulting instrument has an alder body, plus a 24-inch scale maple neck with a rosewood fretboard and vintage-style fretwire. At Cobain's request, Brooks used stock Mustang hardware from Japan, where the guitars are still produced (32)

(according to Nirvana guitar tech Earnie Bailey, the bridge was later changed to a Tune-O-Matic (41)).

The neck pickup is a single-coil Texas Special, which was originally designed as a bridge pickup for Fender's Stevie Ray Vaughan model. The bridge pickup is a Dimarzio H-3 Humbucker."

These are two very different bikes (I think). I own a very customized Bridge Club. It is supremely comfortable and rides well. Alas, it is built to be able to tour with a kitchen sink load and big tires and multi-surfaces. For what it is supposed to do, I think it is excellent. I find that with the current motor (me!) it just rides slow. My average speed is 10-12 mph. On a light steel road bike, I can cruise at 15 mph. I do almost all pavement riding and like to do group rides averaging 15-17 mph. I am contemplating a switch to a Midnight special or an All-City spacehorse. Virtually all the running gear on the Bridge Club could move over to either of these frames (assuming adaptors for 135 QR to straight axle).

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer will make the final call on scheduling special elections, a decision made more complicated because Stone had not formally resigned as of Tuesday morning, when the House adjourned for the year.

The governor cannot call for a special election until the seat is officially vacant, and her office on Tuesday declined to say when she will do so. A spokesperson for House Democrats said Stone is in contact with the clerk's office and is expected to submit her resignation notice in short order.

Tate, for his part, said Tuesday morning that legislative leaders are still having discussions with Whitmer and her office about a "spring timeframe" for special elections to fill the vacant House seats.

Barrel #303 had an entry proof of 107.2 and is made from our mash bill of 58% corn, 37% rye, and 5% malted barley. Two years went by from the date we filled it (6/2/17) and it was in a grouping of barrels that would be our next batch of Small Barrel Bourbon to be dumped in 2019.

Family, teammates and local community members commemorated the life and legacy of U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Dylan Elchin, a Special Tactics combat controller, with a bridge dedication at the Veterans of Foreign War Post 128, Rochester, Pennsylvania, Feb. 29, 2020.

As a Special Tactics combat controller, Elchin was specially trained and equipped for immediate deployment into combat operations to conduct global access, precision strike, and personnel recovery operations. He was skilled in reconnaissance operations, air traffic control and terminal attack control operations.

Q309-8 May a State or Federal Agency develop it's own comprehensive bridge inspection training class instead of using the NHI training class #130055A? (listed 6/21/05, updated 5/18/09)

Q315-3 What is the intent of requiring States and Federal Agencies to incorporate the latest inspection information or changes in bridge status into their databases within 90 days of the status change? What is the significance of the time period? (listed 6/21/05)

Eligible participating teams may also win special awards that recognize extraordinary achievements in addition to the competition category awards. These awards do not factor into the category scores or overall performance rating of a bridge.

The award is named for Frank J. Hatfield who was the Chair of the Student Steel Bridge Competition Rules Committee during its first three decades of existence. He was responsible for orchestrating the many evolutions of the rules since the first Student Steel Bridge Competition in 1992 and was involved in the competition from its inception.

For the 2023 SSBC John M. Yadlosky Most Improved Team Award, eligible teams must have participated (presented for aesthetics judging and staged bridge for construction) in an SSBC regional competition in 2023 and 2022. Participation, rankings, and scores will be verified. As part of the application, teams will also describe their challenges and how they would plan to use the award funds.

Teams may compete in the optional video award category provided their bridge is presented for aesthetics judging and staged for timed construction at a regional competition. Entries must be received by 5:00 PM Eastern Daylight-Saving Time, May 1, 2023 to be considered. Only one entry per team will be accepted.

This optional award category is based on a 6-minute-maximum recording that conveys the features of the design, analysis process undertaken to verify the design meets the structural specifications, fabrication methods, construction procedures, and overall appeal of the bridge to the owner.
