As I cryptically mentioned in the review above, I felt that the season lost a lot when Julia died. It went from a show with a center and purpose, which was about two people navigating a difficult world together who had complicated lives and who might be developing feelings for each other, with a backdrop of terrorism, conspiracy, and mysteries to solve, to a murder mystery and confusing political conspiracy, centered on watching David unravel and wondering which would happen first- would he break down and cease to function in society or would he solve the murder? Both the mystery and the conspiracy careened out of control along with David, with conflicting evidence appearing and disappearing.

And shows with greater production value tend to take theirsweet time as well. The wildlysuccessful Game of Thrones justreturned for its final season after a nearly two-year absence, and Westworld took a similar hiatus beforeits second season.

The fact is, anyone with storytelling acumen can tell that Bodyguard was initially conceptualized as a one-off. Madden's class-crossing love interest, The Rt. Hon. Julia Montague MP (played by Keeley Hawes) did not survive the first season. Madden's character, PS David Budd, ends the show vindicated, back with his family, and most importantly, in therapy for the raging case of PTSD he brought home from the war. While the government may still be corrupt, and those who wormed their way up the chain as greasy as those taken out, for the characters that matter, a happy ending was reached.

This is where the good news for fans also comes in. Up until now, Line of Duty has been tucked away on Hulu where few have noticed it. But with the success of Bodyguard, Acorn TV made an aggressive push and secured the rights to air Season 5 over here. The streaming service has also picked up the first four seasons, which are available streaming anytime.

With Unforgotten's current season concluded and long months ahead until a new cold case mystery returns for the team to solve on PBS' Masterpiece, here are a few other series to check out.

The 32-year-old actor won his first Golden Globe on Sunday for Best Actor in a Drama Series for his stellar performance as Sergeant David Budd on Netflix's uber buzzy British thriller, Bodyguard. While the six-hour series captivated audiences with its shocking, unpredictable twists and turns, a second season has not officially been greenlit.

In an interview with The Daily Mail, series star Richard Madden (Robb Stark on Game of Thrones) revealed that plans are already in motion for Bodyguard Season 2, even though the original intention was to make just a single season.

Everything is looking up, as reports say Bodyguard season 2 has been confirmed. It's no surprise, as the first series was the most watched BBC drama in the past decade, and the final episode had an overall audience of just over 17 million, making it the most watched episode of a TV drama since records began.

Lorraine Kelly was the one who spilled the beans about Bodyguard season 2, announcing there being a second series on her show. She also seemed to confirm Richard Madden would be back as Protection Sergeant David Budd, too.

At the end of the first season it was unclear if Budd would be honoured or dismissed from his position because of some of his decisions throughout the series. And we don't really know much about Nadia's story. That's the only real loose end that needs tying up from series one that could point towards what will happen in the second.

This is a very difficult question to answer. The first season of "Bodyguard" was released in August and September of 2018, and British shows are notoriously slow at producing new seasons, so fans knew it would be a while before new episodes came out. As of right now, the series isn't officially renewed or cancelled, but that doesn't mean much, as Madden, Mercurio, and others involved with "Bodyguard" have been commenting on a second season ever since the first ended, and it seems practically guaranteed. The question is just when.

At the end of "Bodyguard" Season 1, Budd successfully uncovers who's behind Montague's assassination, along with a few people within the government who are manipulating the system to allow for shady dealings to go unnoticed. Budd is officially cleared of any crimes related to Montague's death, and he decides to get help for his PTSD in order to repair his relationships with Vicky and his kids. With the way their relationship is at the end of the season, it seems like Budd and Vicky will not be getting back together, each planning to move on and meet other people, but they will continue co-parenting.

The tense and final scenes of Bodyguard season 1 saw Richard Madden, who snapped up a Golden Globe for his performance as the haunted police constable, agree to PSTD counselling after being forced to walk through the streets of London with a bomb strapped to his chest.

While nothing's firm just yet, series creator Jed Mercurio certainly seems to have a plan for Bodyguard's future. In September, he told The Sun that he could see the show lasting for up to four seasons. "It's probably fair to say we would probably approach any thoughts of a second series with the idea that it would create an opportunity for a third or fourth," Mercurio said.

In the interview, DeGeneres makes a valid point about the inherent difficulties that a second season of Bodyguard could face. Major spoiler alert ahead: Since Keeley Hawes' Julia Montague doesn't make it through episode three, and most of the rest of the main characters are killed off by the end of the six-episode first season, a second season would need an entirely new storyline in place for Madden's David.

What could the writers possibly put the beleaguered character through next? He's already untangled a government-level conspiracy, and failed pretty hard at his first bodyguard gig. That doesn't mean he can't have a do-over with a new client though, and maybe he'll be paired with someone he doesn't fundamentally disagree with on every level the second time around.

No matter how long it takes for a second season to happen, just the promise of one would be more than enough right now. Bodyguard's intense story combined with a superb performance from Madden made the show a hit on both sides of the pond. And DeGeneres is far from the only fan who is eager to see what this action-packed series could possibly serve up next.

During the course, Mercurio also addresses the mid-season dip, where sometimes in the middle episodes the plot development is less significant than it is at the beginning and at the end. Mercurio recommends a midpoint to the season that is as dramatic and plot twisting as what the writer is aiming to do with the end.
