I was wondering whether I could download full-city google or bing (or actually, any found to be trustworthy source) maps data for this same batch processing? What I basically need is access to all the streets (and to know whether they are one or two-way streets) of a given town of my choice (Lisbon, for instance), as a combination of vertex + edges, or any other format that will let me gather that info, for offline use.

The application will most often be used with internet access, but sometimes it will be used in situations where internet access is not possible. Therefore, we would like our users to be able to download a certain area and store it (temporarily) on the device, before going to the location without internet, and then be able to use that offline data on the location. The downloaded data could then be deleted after some time.

Does anyone know if such functionality would be possible with Cesium for Unity and, if so, what would be the best way of doing it?

Hi, i would like to know more about offline use, if i buy the licence, i will get json file for Cesium world terrain and xml file for Sentinel2-imagery but how the tiles will work in offline mode ? i mean, will they actualize depending on camera position or all will be loaded at the beginning ?

Microsoft is quietly dropping support of offline maps on Windows 11. After releasing a massive update introducing Copilot and many other AI features, the company is also planning to end support for some other features, including offline maps (via MSPowerUser).

As an alternative, after the support ends, you could use the Google Maps offline feature on your phone. You can even install the Google Maps Android app on Windows 11 by installing the Google Play Store. Or, using the Windows Subsystem for Android, you can install other alternatives like OSMAnd.

Its terrible today, constant issues with Bing data being switched to offline mode in the UK. Even this support page status takes ages to load (2 seconds or more, it took 20 at one stage this afternoon) its abysmal.

Bing Maps Downloader is a tool that can automatically download the Bing Maps images to your PC. It can download the small tiles and save them to your hard disk, including the normal maps, satellite maps, hybrid maps. After downloading, you can view the maps offline by its tool Maps Viewer, or you can combine the small images into one big map image. If you want to make a map of your city by yourself, it is very useful for you.

Note: The downloaded images are only for your personal purpose, non-commercial use.

The wiki contains a short description on using offline maps.

I followed it to the letter but no maps appear on my tablet.

I suspect it has something to do with the path to the maps.

The path mentioned in the wiki does not exist on my Samsung Galaxy 2 tablet.

Does anybody know what place the offline maps should be placed, if the app is very critical to this, or if you can change the path?

The first one being: ./DroidPlanner/Maps/1/, the last one being ./DroidPlanner/Maps/19/. All folders contain subfolders with georeferenced map material.

In DroidPlanner I checked the use offline maps checkbox and I restarted the app.

Afterwards only a black background appears.

Just to be sure I emptied the app cache and repeated the above procedure.

Still only a black background appears.

Just tried ofline maps with pre-fetched GoogleSatellite images, but the problem stays, a total black background.

The data structure appears to be the same as the BingSatellite images. Same folder, subfolder and image naming.

Maps.me feels like a futuristic navigation map thanks to its robust interface. Offline maps are available in 100+ countries, so you can be confident that you can travel without the Internet.

OsmAnd is designed for offline use and offers highly detailed maps covering nearly every location on Earth. Offline maps still provide turn-by-turn voice navigation, auto re-routing, and traffic warning alerts.

When surveying in the field, it is essential to have appropriate background maps. There are several sources of background maps you can use in your QGIS project. Here, we will cover two types of background maps for online and offline use in Mergin Maps mobile app: raster and vector tiles.

Raster and vector tiles generated for offline use can be relatively large files, especially when using high resolution data or a large area of interest. It may be impractical to synchronise these large files through Mergin Maps or to have duplicate copies if they are used in multiple projects.

When on-line I "File-Save" my mapping area and the Bing imagery. When I load the file offline the imagery does not re-appear.Maybe the cache is being cleared during the windows 10 shutdown process. How can I prevent the cache from being cleared?

PTV Group maintains a contract with Microsoft to use Bing Maps as a live background map in PTV Vissim, PTV Vistro, PTV Visum, and PTV Viswalk, from which customers with an active maintenance contract benefit.

If this applies to you, and your license is disabled, please contact ordermanagement@ptvgroup.com together with a screenshot of this dialog.

Notes:

- Bing Maps is not included in the license and product variants Demo, Viewer, Student (Uni) and Thesis.

- If none of the background maps can be displayed, refer to:

When Motion X GPS launched it came with a hand full of open source maps which could be cached or downloaded for offline (non-network) use. In other words you could navigate and see maps with no cellular or WiFi coverage. A great feature to be sure and something needed for an overland traveller using an iOS device. As Motion X GPS and GPS HD (later) evolved additional map types and features came along. Though the Motion X Terrain Maps were pretty good (and offline cacheable) folks yearned for their trusty USGS Topo Maps. In version 16 Motion X added offline Bing maps (Road, Satellite, Hybrid and Terrain) which seemed to appease folks somewhat but there have always been grumbling about the lack of those old school pesky USGS gems.

* Some other apps have been allowing offline caching of the Bing and Google Maps. FullPower is honoring the license terms Google and Microsoft put forth. Other apps/developers have skated the licensing allowing offline downloads.

As a workaround, if you open a project, download maps, and then turn off mobile data, the map should still be there. Only a small part of the map, but it may help. It may work differently on different phones, so please test it before going to the field.

Projects a geo-referenced multi-resolution image tile map into the scene. Map tiles can be obtained from Bing Maps or any WMTS Tile Service. Pre-defined services that access Stamen Design (terrain, watercolor, and toner) are provided. Custom or local WMTS map servers can also be specified. Map data is cached to disk which enables some limited use completely offline.

Wow, stunning. As for the Italian rural areas, Google maps are crap. Instead, Microsoft has excellent coverings, or anyway always better than Google has. And now that they can be viewed and used within Earth, benefiting all the features of Earth, it is practically a dream. A thousand times thank you, very useful post.

9. Set the Maximum Cached Scale to 0. Some offline map use cases require zooming in close to the map, and without this setting the vector tiles stop displaying once past the maximum cached scale. By setting this to 0, users can zoom in as close as they want and still see vector tile information.

Bookmarks are predefined named extents that you can include in the map. Bookmarks allow map users to easily zoom to an extent. Bookmarks that you create for the map in ArcGIS Pro are included in the offline map.

Well thought about bing maps probably two years ago. As I remember bing maps has different terms for public web sites and for closed apps. Also free daily limits were different. Maybe they changed the terms of use it was not definitely for free.

Google Maps is a popular and robust location-based mapping service, and its inception has led to the extinction of paper maps. The mapping service is ever-evolving and is becoming more and more accessible each passing day.

While Google Maps supports offline maps feature, these maps are not as detailed as you will find in other mapping services. These apps also provide important details like driving statistics and different map categories, traffic alerts and updates, and more.

Apple maps may lack some features that are a part of Google Maps and may not have as many reviews of places that you will find in the Google mapping service, but some of its features are pretty outstanding. For instance, if you are in the US, you can see information about the traffic signals and the stop signs; the map will also tell you the correct lane where you should travel.

It fetches the best routes to the different destinations from Google Maps, and if you compare the two, Bing apps generally provide optimized routes. Its advanced features like 3D views and OS maps, and Street View, on a fresh and clean user interface, make Bing Maps worth a try. Some of the features offered by Google Maps, like road, aerial, and streetside layers, are also present in the Bing Maps. Bing Maps also provides separate walking and driving maps and allows you to add destinations on the route and print them on paper for later use. ff782bc1db
