Sjava's debut album, Isina Muva (2016), introduced his experimental sound which fuses afrobeats, hip hop and contemporary R&B.[4] His second studio album, Umqhele, was released in 2018 to a critical acclaim. Umqhele, which continues with his fusion sound, grew his African-influenced image, and consolidated to other international regions (mainly in Africa). Before Umqhele, Sjava also released his debut EP, Umphako, in 2018.[5]

On 8 April 2016, he released his debut single as a solo artist, "Ekuseni".[13] He then released his debut album, Isina Muva on 22 July 2016.[14] Its title is derived from a Zulu idiom meaning "late bloomer".[15] Isina Muva was certified Gold by the Recording Industry of South Africa (RiSA) and Sjava celebrated by releasing a deluxe version of the album titled Isina Muva: Gold Deluxe[16][17] The album earned Sjava an award at the 23rd South African Music Awards for Best Produced Album.[18] It also won for a similar category at the 16th Metro FM Music Awards, and received four nominees: Best Afro Pop Album for Isina Muva, Best Male and Best New Artist.[19] Also in 2017, Sjava recorded the theme song for the Mzansi Magic drama telenovela Isithembiso, which premiered on 3 April 2017.[20]

The film Black Panther was accompanied by a soundtrack album curated by rapper Kendrick Lamar, which Sjava appeared on.[21] Sjava was featured on the song "Seasons", alongside rappers Mozzy and a TDE rapper Reason.[22] The album was nominated at the 61st Annual Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, making it his first nominee at the ceremony for his appearance.[23]

Sjava's second studio album Umqhele was released on 14 December 2018.[30] The album's lead single "Umama", was released seven days before the album was available.[31] "Umama" later spawned a version on the global music platform COLORS, where he was featured performing the song on 13 May 2019.[32] Umqhele atopped the iTunes local chart and received positive reviews from critics.[33]

In December 2022, he announced his third studio album Isibuko, which was released January 27, 2023. It features guests such as Shwi, Saudi, Emtee, Sampa the Great, Delayde, Lolli Native, Qwabe Twins, Umzukulu, Umzulu Phaqa, Udumakahle, Anzo, Vernotile, Inkos' Yamagcokama, and Nontokozo Mkhize.

Sjava & Big Zulu worked on their joint album Ukhamba, as Inkabi Zezwe.[39] Album's lead single "Umbayimbayi" was released on March 24, 2023 and debuted number one on Top 100 South Africa.[40] The song was certified 3 Platinum in South Africa.[41][42][43]

The 10-track album will offer a variety of sounds and messages. There is one that talks about appreciating the home one hails from, even though you do not have the power to renovate. There is also a track called Sayona, a love song that speaks about a couple who ruined a good thing. And Uthando Lunye which encourages love and support among black people, that we should celebrate those who do well, instead of killing them. One of the tracks will be titled after the duo's name, Inkabi Zezwe.

Even with different approaches to music, both artists share a quaint intrigue for love, hope and family, with Zulu culture as their common ground. Consequently, a collaborative album between Sjava and Big Zulu can only highlight the rich and complex Zulu identities, people and ambition.

South African ATM (African Trap Music) artist Sjava's appearance on Black Panther The Album is one for the books. Through it, he introduces the ATM subgenre to the world. So does his Ambitiouz Entertainment labelmate Saudi on the song "X," featuring ScHoolboy Q and 2 Chainz, on the same album.

Sjava scooped the award for his contribution to the 2018 Black Panther album with the song titled 'Seasons'. The song's selling point is the hook where he talks about poverty, jealousy and negativity while growing up in South Africa.

Recently, as he was about to perform Isoka from his latest album at the Bassline Fest in Johannesburg, he said the song was inspired by music from Mozambique, which speaks to his habit of exploring music beyond the borders of South Africa, while staying authentic to who he is. e24fc04721
