Natalie is a talented and creative dance instructor. My husband and I have taken dance lessons at many different places and find that Move the Beat is one of the best. We truly have fun at our lessons and enjoy the energy Natalie provides. She makes it a joy to learn to dance.

YouTube's most popular video is this but it's not a music video. Everyone seems to be doing the same dance and some videos reference a "challenge" but where did the original dance moves come from if not from an original music video of the song?

Nebz (Michael Nebz Narine) is a bboy from Queens, NY, whose work ranges from breaking to acting and commercial modeling. He served as cinematographer on the feature film Germaphobe (2021), and has acted in commercials, danced in music videos, worked as an entertainer for the NBA, and continues to teach at dance studios.

Poppin' Fresh (Jake Gellis) started out in street dance as a bboy in the late 1990s on Long Island and in New York City. He learned the Popping dance style in the early 2000s and loved it so much that it became his biggest focus. Since then, he has become known internationally for his support of street dance and has traveled to hundreds of street dance events and competitions all over the world. He began competing in upstate New York in 2007, and previously has been a Fringe Street Beat competitor.

Humans naturally perceive and move to a musical beat, entraining body movements to auditory rhythms through clapping, tapping, and dancing. Yet the accuracy of this seemingly effortless behavior varies widely across individuals. Beat perception and production abilities can be improved by experience, such as music and dance training, and impaired by progressive neurological changes, such as in Parkinson's disease. In this study, we assessed the effects of music and dance experience on beat processing in young and older adults, as well as individuals with early-stage Parkinson's disease. We used the Beat Alignment Test (BAT) to assess beat perception and production in a convenience sample of 458 participants (278 healthy young adults, 139 healthy older adults, and 41 people with early-stage Parkinson's disease), with varying levels of music and dance training. In general, we found that participants with over three years of music training had more accurate beat perception than those with less training (p < .001). Interestingly, Parkinson's disease patients with music training had beat production abilities comparable to healthy adults while Parkinson's disease patients with minimal to no music training performed significantly worse. No effects were found in healthy adults for dance training, and too few Parkinson's disease patients had dance training to reliably assess its effects. The finding that musically trained Parkinson's disease patients performed similarly to healthy adults during a beat production task, while untrained patients did not, suggests music training may preserve certain rhythmic motor timing abilities in early-stage Parkinson's disease.

I recommend the dance and other movement classes at The Beat on 9th Street in Berkeley. Chi Chi's Wednesday evening "Advanced Rhythm Tap" is a very fun class that I've taken from time to time when I can.

You may want to check out creative dance, world dance, or tap at The Beat in West Berkeley. Creative and world are back to back, which you may need to do with the two ages, but they are fun classes with a great teacher.

Re: Tap for Adults (July 2002)

The BEAT on 9th Street in Berkeley has tap dance classes for adults and children. I was studying jazz/blues there and saw the tap recitals. There is alot of energy and enthusiasm for tap there. Everyone seems to really love it! Laura

Re: Tap for Adults (July 2002)

Hello! I am a dancer, and though I know of more places in San Francisco, the peninsula and the south bay, I have heard of a place up in your neck of the woods that sounds good. It's called ''The Beat Dance Center''. I haven't been there before, but I know they teach tap, and I think they have a reputation for teaching good technique. Here is what I found:

Call them and see what you think. Of course, if you are willing to make the drive to San Jose, my husband and I are teaching an adult beginning class right now. He dances just like Gene Kelly! Good luck, Kristen Scott

Re: Tap for Adults (July 2002)

For tap dance classes, check out The Beat dance studio in Berkeley on 9th between Dwight & Parker. The website is www.the- beat.org. There is more information about the studio history on the UCB archives. I have only taken jazz classes there but the studio is more known for its tap program with Gregory Hines and the likes on its advisory board in the past. Denise

Re: hip hop/jazz/modern dance classes for 13-year-old

The Beat at 8th and Parker is the BEST--it is very professional and where the pros work out. However, it is an adult school and though welcoming to teens, does not provide a teen atmosphere, or end-of-year performances. My daughter really improved her technique there, and began to take her dancing very seriously. She missed the kid-socializing stuff, so she also went back to her teen classes at Cerrito Arts Dance Studio in El Cerrito. Michael

Studio J changed ownership more than a year ago. It is now called The Beat, Eddie Brown Center for the Arts. It is in the same location as the former Studio J, at 2560 9th Street (between Dwight and Parker) in Berkeley. Telephone number is 510-548-5348. There is also a website: www.the-beat.org. The studio has a strong tap dance following and has offered Flamenco, Salsa, Zydeco, and Afro-Cuban dance. I'm not sure what the current offerings are, so I'd call in advance to double check any class you're interested in taking. Roger Dilahunty is a fantastic jazz dance teacher for adults who has taught for many years at the studio in its various incarnations and is wonderfully accessible and challenging to people who love to dance but are not necessarily professionally-trained dancers. A rhythm pulsing below your feet and reverberating through your whole body: We're not talking about music here, but rather our handmade rugs from the BEAT collection.

These pieces feel just as invigorating as melodic beats. Their handwoven pebble structure made from tumbled wool stands out with a clear and modern design.

This positive attitude, combined with hard work and a significant investment of time, results in a strong bond between Company members. We think you will form genuine friend-ships here that will last a life-time. Additionally, you will de-velop a deep understanding of commitment and discipline that will prepare you for college and a future career, whether or not that involves dance.

Company members take dance classes and attend rehearsals 3 to 4 days a week with core classes in ballet, jazz (company tech-nique), tap and contemporary. One Beat petite, junior, teen and senior teams attend five or six competitions in the Spring, be-tween January and May, unless a collective decision is made for a team not to attend one. Mini company attends three competi-tions a year. Specific require-ments and costs are as follows:

For audition, dancers should wear a leo-tard or dance top with lycra shorts or leg-gings. Hair should be in a pony tail or bun. Boys should wear black pants or shorts and a T shirt. You may audition in jazz shoes or bare feet.

Dancers will be taught contemporary and jazz combinations to do across the floor. Parents and dancers will also be asked to complete a questionnaire.

Dear music fans, musicians, and dancers, As of October 9, 2023, we will be shuttering the Sonoma County Dance Beat calendar. We will continue to look for ways to support the music community through our other services, such as dance lessons, event production, and musician/venue matchmaking. In the spring of 2014, Kevin and I founded Sonoma County Dance Beat because we needed such a resource ourselves. And we knew other dancers, who prefer live music, would appreciate it too. Over the years we have tried various strategies for monetizing the site and enlisting volunteers, which have been met with

Feel the Beat is a 2020 American family dance comedy-drama film directed by Elissa Down, written by Michael Armbruster and Shawn Ku and starring Sofia Carson, Enrico Colantoni and Wolfgang Novogratz.[1][2]

April Dibrina, a young dancer seeking success on Broadway, steals a cab from an old lady during a rainstorm to get to an audition. She performs well, but sponsor Ruth Zimmer, meets the potential dancers. When she recognizes April (from the taxi incident), she vows that no one on Broadway will hire her. While trying to explain, she accidentally knocks Ruth off stage, inflicting serious injury. It is posted on social media, publicly embarrassing April.

Evicted, April returns to her hometown in Wisconsin. While at the grocery store, she bumps into the New Hope dance teacher Miss Barb, who invites her to come to the dance studio. April also sees her ex Nick, whom she left to pursue a career in New York City.

Barb asks April to coach the town's dance team for a competition. At first, she declines, but later realizes it can give her a chance to perform in front of Welly Wong, saving her career. April accepts, beginning a harsh training regimen that alienates the young dancers, including causing Ruby to quit. 006ab0faaa
